Somebody tell me--Exactly what will THIS accomplish???
« on: December 19, 2016, 08:26:38 AM »
Kentucky Speedway going Smoke-Free in Grandstands: Kentucky Speedway grandstands will be smoke-free, including the use of e-cigarettes and vapor cigarettes, beginning with the 2017 season. This policy applies to all seating areas, including suites, clubs and terrace boxes. The speedway will continue to permit smoking in all other areas of the grounds, including but not limited to parking lots, camping, and display areas. "We are committed to having the very best customer experience in sports at Kentucky Speedway. This non-smoking policy, along with our new kids pricing, assures that all patrons and families will fully enjoy the exciting experience of a race at Kentucky Speedway," said Kentucky Speedway general manager Mark Simendinger.(Kentucky Speedway)

There's a lot of race tracks that are smoke free in the Grandstands.

Holland and Lake Erie, have this policy. Ransomville allows smoking in only one section of the grandstand.

The question is still valid but I remain mystified...I'm more sensitive than most, due to the anti-seizure prescription meds I take attacking my immune system..."second-hand smoke" does affect me, such as in a suite!  But rules for outside makes absolutely NO sense--must be just me!

Yes--I have asthma as well! Just not as bad, I guess!

I know when I sit near someone that is smoking by the end of the night it feels like I smoked a carton of cigarettes. All tracks should have a designated smoking area.

In your case, I get this--but as usual, what I have posted gets misunderstood.  My remarks were NOT intended to in any way to say I favor smoking.  I don't smoke (except when I'm ablaze!).  I NEVER smoked in my life and don't plan to start. Except for Beersy26 (with whom I agree has a legitimate reason),  I was just questioning the effectiveness of it in an outdoor environment!

Beersy26,
In your case, I get this--but as usual, what I have posted gets misunderstood.

I don't smoke either, never did. I'm old enough to have grown up (sort of) during a time when smoking was a prevalent activity. I spent many an evening in a nightclub, with smoke clouding the air so heavily, you could use a chain saw to cut it. I bowled in leagues, where the air in the alleys was also thickly clouded. I worked for a large corporation, and smoking was allowed in the building. I pretty much smelled like an ashtray, for most of those years.  And I'm quite sure those environments didn't do my health one bit of good, either. But so far, I'm doing OK.

But to address your point, my wife and I were walking out of the local Wegmans store last weekend, pushing our cart full of groceries. About 15-20 feet ahead of us, was a middle-aged man, also pushing a cart toward his car, but he was also furiously sucking on a cigarette......and blowing a cloud of smoke behind him, that my wife and I were subjected to. Even though it was outdoors, it was MOST unpleasant.

I'm a non-smoker and I don't want to smell someone else smoke every time it drifts by my face.  I'm fine with having designated smoking sections in the stands as I understand we are outside and people do like to smoke.

Just trying to point out that even in an outdoor env. the smoke blows in your face, so why wouldn't it be effective to keep smoking out of the grandstand?

It is interesting that one of the tobacco states would ban smoking.  It might have something to do with statistics and the fact that smokers comprise a smaller portion of the population...

This is from the CDC....

"Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths every year, or 1 of every 5 deaths.

In 2015, about 15 of every 100 U.S. adults aged 18 years or older (15.1%) currently smoked cigarettes. This means an estimated 36.5 million adults in the United States currently smoke cigarettes. More than 16 million Americans live with a smoking-related disease.

Current smoking has declined from nearly 21 of every 100 adults (20.9%) in 2005 to about 15 of every 100 adults (15.1%) in 2015."

always thought it was interesting that Ohsweken Speedway is no smoking in the stands (there are a few little ground level smoking areas) but the local economy (and that of the track) revolves around native tobacco or popular brands sold without some taxation due to being on the Rez.).
