Race Track Prices
« on: June 30, 2016, 10:14:14 AM »
I know Track owners are out to make a buck as well, but how can tracks expect familys to spend 15 to 20 dollars each to get in to watch these shows? Normal nights are not bad at 10 to 12 bucks each but you have a special show and BAM 20 bucks each to get in. I also know that People want to see special shows but how is it fair to raise the price that high. lower income familys cant come and enjoy those shows cause they cant afford it. Sorry End of Rant

When you have "bigger shows" the racers have to get paid, $20 is not bad for a night out

Beat me to it, several substitutes are equally pricey. A round of 18 holes of golf, Pole Position, etc.

Here in northern Virginia, 15 dollars for adult is the going rate for either the local dirt or asphalt track. And it is certainly not out of line with seeing a movie with adult tickets at 12.50 and higher depending on whether you want to see regular, 3D or IMAX. So a trip to see a movie for 2 adults and a kid could add up to 35+15 for drinks & popcorn=50 dollars or more. It is the time we live in. Nothing is cheap. You either pay to play or save your money and stay home.

I understand where your coming from i don't go to the movies theme parks or special races because I can't just pull that sorta money out of my pocket and still expect to sit there and buy food or drinks like I want ....... Unless I save money. You would think that the sponsorships, concussion money and all the pit money would be close to enough I know there is more to it than what I mentioned but I feel like maybe instead of raising ticket prices maybe charge 2$ to park and add a VIP parking for all you rich people that don't wanna walk. You would think that could cut the cost of the ticket and still save family's money..... The more money people spend at the gate is less money they will spend at your concessions and I feel like a packed race track that lets everyone in cheap makes more money than a track that nobody can afford to go to

One possible misconception here is that lower admission prices will actually "pack the track" as they say.  Oswego had a much larger crowd on June 18 at $20 general admission than they did for their May 21 $10 general admission special.  Evans Mills has had small crowds at $7 a person which I believe is the cheapest admission in the area.  I'm hearing Lancaster was packed last night for the ROC race.  Pretty sure it was $20 a person.

In addition to payouts the track has many other expenses.
Insurance
Fees to sanctioning body (if any)
Payroll
Tow truck contract
Ambulance/EMT/Paramedic contract
Tickets/wristbands
Gas for concession stand grill
Electric (them big lights spin that meter like a carousel)
Maintenance of track
Maintenance of grounds
Training for track personnel
Permits for town/village
Taxes for County/Town/School district
Profit for owner
Plus many I probably forgot about. So I would also like cheaper tickets but the costs for running/owning a track keep going up.  And many of the costs are year round even though the track only operates 6 months.

JMO. I think Jon is just venting some.  Pretty certain he loves racing as much or more than the next guy and would love to go more often. He has bent over many times to help promote racing at local tracks with pushing and collecting lap money for races, etc. So you can't say he doesn't put out a huge effort in promoting local racing for basically nothing. Should have more people like him out there and it would be nice to see tracks sometimes help out with some of their best fans.

Don't forget fuel. Water trucks, mud trucks, packers, water pumps, wreckers, etc. They don't sip fuel like them Toyotas.

A $2.00 fee to park comes with a price for the track operator as well.........You would need at least 2 more employees to do it, maybe 3 depending on the size and layout of the parking lot. So You park 100 cars @ $2.00 each, that's $200.00. Say you do have only 2 extra employees. Say they get $50.00 each for the night along with a little bit of food (either discounted of free, depends on the track policy) So now you have paid $110.00 out, but wait, it doesn't stop there. Don't forget all the other "hidden" expenses of the 2 employees, payroll taxes, unemployment taxes, Social Security, shirts for the employees, the list goes on.

By the time you are done it is a wash at the best and the track saved no money................

With Lancaster being packed its the same concept of which came first the chicken or the egg. Was the place packed because of 20 dollar admission price of was it because it was an roc mod event.

Another thing that help was it was the only asphalt track racing on thursday
2018
Dirt: Ransomville Speedway, Genesse Speedway Limerock
Asphalt: Lancaster  Hillside

I can agree to a point with Jon's complaint. I don't think you should jack up your gate fee because you have fireworks, when you are losing cars left and right, fans are complaining, teams are complaining, and you are spending money to repair damaged personal vehicles from your track surface. Now, if that jacked up gate was going to a point fund for the guys who are putting on the show, then I wouldn't complain so much. To me, the track I am referencing is like a Roman coliseum and they are the gladiators. I firmly believe they need to get PAID to put on the show they do, and that is why I sponsor laps when it is not cost-prohibitive.

To date this week on my personal "Racecation" of 5 different tracks in 5 days, I am $97 in gate fees alone. Thursday - $40, Friday - $32, Saturday - $25 (thank you, Ted White). Tonight I will spend $40, and tomorrow (because I have a ran check from September last year), I will spend $10. This does not include amenities - food, gas, etc.... It is expensive to be a diehard race fan, and well as a competitive team.

Evergreen Raceway for a regular show has been $8 all year, when the Tour modifieds are in town for a 50 lapper like this Sunday it's just $15
