Does the leader get the lane all the time?
« on: December 06, 2013, 12:28:09 PM »
Lets just say driver A has been leading the race for a few laps running on the bottom the whole race.  Driver B has been running second for about the same amount of time.  For several laps, he has been attempting to pass on top but can't make it work.  He notices driver A drifts off the bottom exiting the corners.  Driver B makes first attempt at a slingshot but only gets to A's rear quarter.  A slams the door. Some contact but driver B backs out.  Next lap, same setup but this time B gets up to A's door.  More contact this time, with B being forced into the infield before he can back out of it.  3rd attempt.  This time B is dead even and the contact is huge.  B is forced through the infield and up over the yukes in the corner.  Driver B breaks and A goes on to win the race.  Big scuffle in this pits.  Who is right?  Does the leader get the line no matter what, or is there a point where he needs to give the 2nd place driver room?

As a rookie last year, I was told that if a car got to your door they had earned the spot, maintain my line and if they could hold it underneath without backing out to complete the pass the position was their's. A little door to door contact is expected but to run somebody right off the track, well
Then you can understand the fights in the pits....

Once you have the ability to see the car under you, you need to race him knowing he's there. If you repeatedly pinch him in the corners and try to block after that, you get what's coming to you. Period.

If you are wheel to wheel he / she should give you the line, you earned it at that point.

When a car is up to the door or further up towards the front of the car that is his line as long that his car keeps all 4 wheels are on the track and the driver on the outside has to let him have the inside groove.

Once up to the door it's theirs. But if your cars are 76 inches wide, be sure to give him just 76 inches in the next corner. You will have a lot of fun, put on a good show, come home with a car in one piece, and probably make a new friend.

My opinion has always been to hold a line when racing side by side.  It always amazes me how many can't or won't.  I've seen a number of guys that don't even drive straight on the straight away.  My feeling is if u r attempting to pass someone and they want to play that crap and get wrecked there should b no penalty.  Like the saying goes u can't race someone clean if they won't let u!  I know most tracks or fans disagree but in shorter races that we typically run u can't spend 10 laps trying to pass every blockhead u come to.

.
I think people should pay more attention to thier helmet size. It appears that alot of people are racing with thier brains being squeezed a little too tight !

Here's a question for you all.  You spend lap after lap getting chopped by the leader, backing out in the corners to avoid being driven into the tires.  A lot of those laps you were well past their back tire, up into their door.  Eventually, you get a solid enough run that you can't back out.  They don't give you the line, so you door them out of the way.  You get past them but over drive the next corner and they are back underneath you.  Do you give them the line in the corner like the rule of thumb states or do you drive them like they drove you and hope they don't take you out?  Mind you, you know you should be faster than them, but are your tires starting to go or did you mess up your handle when you made contact?  There are only a couple laps left...

I always say drive them like they drive you. If they can't respect you on the track, why should you respect them? Short of willingly tearing stuff up, you get what you give.

If Car B is to the door of car A, then he has position and car A needs to give him room.

Just as bad as this scenario is when car B goes to the outside of car A and car A pushes car B up the track.  The leader has his choice of lanes, but only one lane, not the whole track.

anything goes on the last lap. last i knew they scored cars by the bumpers and not the doors.
