Mother Nature Claims Merrittville Show

THOROLD, ONTARIO (October 4, 2020) … In 69 years of operation, racing in the month of October was a first in a season full of firsts at the Merrittville Speedway. That statement will still be the case as Mother Nature intervened and claimed the last Saturday night of stock car racing at the historic facility.

“We are not happy that the rain couldn’t hold off today”, commented track owners Don & Lorraine Spiece. “We put countless hours of work all week to be ready for racing, but Mother Nature had other ideas”, they explained.  The Spiece family issued this statement. “We want to take the time to thank everyone who came out this season to support us. Drivers, crew, fans, staff, marketing partners, race night sponsors, and volunteers. It has been a whirlwind this year with emails and e-transfers and registration forms and line ups, and mask-wearing but we managed to get through it unscathed. We are all here, healthy, and safe. Thanks for your cooperation and patience.  Wreckfest will look a little different next weekend with minimal fans in the stands but it is still going to be a great 2 days! We are very anxious and excited to see what 2021 will bring us!”

Next weekend is WRECK FEST 2020! Saturday, October 10th show will feature a $5,000 to win Compact Demolition Derby plus more wrecking mayhem. Sunday, October 11th will be the Canadian Figure 8 Championships headlining the show. Fans can like Wreck Fest 2020 on Facebook for more information regarding this event.

After Wreck Fest, the attentions will be turned to the annual Merrittville Market Craft & Vendor Fair plus the annual Swap Meet on October 24. More information regarding both events is available by following Merrittville Speedway on social media and online at www.merrittvillespeedway.com
