Racing dirt mods on snow/ ice
« on: November 22, 2014, 08:47:05 AM »
I have always wondered if a race on snow/ ice could be pulled off?  Would teams and fans show up?  I would think a 1/4 to 1/3 mile track would be perfect.  Track/ pit prep would be expensive, but I believe the response would be huge.  What does everyone think?

i think it would work on asphalt pretty well.. kinda came up with that idea a few years ago if a track maybe ran once a month thru the winter. place like evans mills would be perfect as the pits and parking lot are all hard gravel or limestone. run probably more stock style divisions or something. i think youd get a decent response

Way back in the day ( before I got involved with racing in my yoot) they had ice oval racing on Oneida Lake @ Sylvan Beach.

Many of the locals in the day (I'm told) used to race there. It was popular I guess, at least for the hardy, but I don't know why it

died out. Back when we used to have real winters the ice on that lake gets quite thick and the water is fairly shallow at the Beach'.

I'd love for it to come back.

Putting fans in the stands would be a big problem.I know I wont sit in the stands in the freezing weather. But racing the car on a frozen lake is another thing.

There was a guy in Quebec that had his Modified on a frozen lake. I've seen the video but I couldn't find it on YouTube today...

Don't promoters fly south in the winter?   8)
