Containment seat Question
« on: November 25, 2013, 04:35:52 PM »
I was thinking about ordering a seat like this for my FWD for next year. Just wanted to know if anybody had run a seat like this, I know there are some benefits, just want to know if anybody didn't like something about a seat like this before I buy it.

Hope you know that listing is for JUST THE COVER. You ain't gonna get a new seat like that for 175 bucks.

That Description Is Misleading.

Kirkey 69911 - Kirkey 69 Series Containment Seats

Kirkey 69 series containment seats are designed for the short track racer who is looking for added safety at a price they can afford. These containment seats accommodate all head and neck restraint systems as well as any 6-point seat belts systems. Not only is the head restraint vertically adjustable for custom fit but it was designed to allow the driver easy entry and exit.

Features:
10 Degree back angle
Contoured bottom with aluminum leg separator for added thigh and hip support.
Head, rib, and shoulder restraints use high density padding for extra protection and comfort.
Optional easily removable black cloth covers available.

How is the description misleading? This is from the ad:
 Kirkey#570-69911
69 Series Containment Seat Cover
Fits PN 570-69900
Each
Optional easily removable black cloth covers available

Seems pretty clear to me

I actually didn't realize it. I googled Kirkey Containment seat, and that is what came up on the Jegs website. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not going to spend 1/3 of the cost of the whole car on a seat.

I love my Joie of Seating Saturday Night Special. The area that surrounds your butt is rounded, whereas I think the Kirkey has square corners. The LaJoie just fits me great and is comfortable, even without the seat cover. I think they're in the neighborhood of $1,800 new, but I was fortunate enough to find a real nice slightly used one for less than half of that.  And, I now know that it can take a real hard hit and keep me securely in place. It seems like a lot of $, but I'd buy another in a heartbeat. How much is your safety worth?

I have a top of the line helmet, 3 layer firesuit, gloves and shoes. The one area I don't skimp is safety. I have rolled cars twice with my normal Kirkey seat, and gotten away with just bruises. Was just kind of shopping around to see what was out there.

The one piece of safety equipment that I have always wanted, but can't justify the price, is a HANS Device. I don't think the neck brace most of us in our class use is very effective, but a Hans device is pretty pricey. I would assume they don't cost that much to make, so I don't really understand the mark up.

Proper R&D and testing costs money and that adds to the price of them, and don't a bunch use carbon fiber, which is still a expensive specialty material.

Hey Adam...I had a full containment seat in the modified. It was a little harder to get in and out but it added a little more security. If you look hard enough I'm sure you will find one used that won't break the bank.

Thanks Bob. I'm always looking for ways to increase safety. My motto is "I would rather be a living si$$y, than a dead tough guy" It boggles my mind when I see some of the cages that people run in my class, or when I see a late model/modified driver racing without gloves. I went to Paradise Speedway once, and I was pleasantly surprised, the lady at lineup would walk up and down the row and drivers had to hold up both hands to show they were wearing gloves.
