Pocono INDYCAR race
« on: September 18, 2012, 08:20:58 AM »
There is a good chance that the Indy cars will be racing at Pocono Raceway in early July 2013. Will anyone go to the race?

Count me out. The cars look obsurd with the rear wheels enclosed, and I really don't know who any of the drivers are anymore in that series.

I most likey wont go,but I will be glad if they race there. They are currently putting on a better show than the stock cars are with all of their B S and regulated out comes of the race. At least 25% of the winners this year have won becouse of late race cautions when there was no need, cautions at a time and then race restarted at just the right time to turn the race into fuel mileage with the small gas tanks they run, green white checkers, lucky dog and on and on. One of the biggest jokes is the compitition yellows, top cars and drivers shouldnt need them, even thow Good Year makes what is about the worst racing tire.

Sorry, I won't be able to make it as I have to take our dog to the eye doctor for her annual vision exam.

not me.  Indy cars have no relevance anymore, just a series for Euros who can't make it in F1 or Euro Touring Car series.  the couple of Americans who do drive them like Ed Carpenter and Ryan Hunter Ray should go to NASCAR.  As for Marco Andretti, grandpa Mario wanted him to go to F1 but his father Michael put the brakes on that because he didn't like it.  Any other Americans are just brainwashed into thinking they're in the premier American open wheel series.  "In my humble opinion" the premier open wheel series in this country is the World Of Outlaws Sprint Cars.

The dissision to end the National Championship Trail that was made in 1970 was and still remains the greatest mistake every made in the history of racing.Nothing comes close.Todays Indy Car series is impacted in a major way from that act which changed the course of major league racing in both stock cars in open wheel. The racing world would be very different today in our country if this had never occured and we still had the National Championship Trail.Still today the way the races are conducted,Indy Car results are based on more pure racing than the NASCAR Cup races.

V6 turbos and ugly chassis turn my stomach.  Pocono the oval or road course? Don't be too surprized if it's the road course...

I like open wheel race cars.  But I don't appreciate a series where the pace car has more horsepower than the race cars!
2021 Next: Bubba Raceway, Volusia Speedway, New Smyrna Speedway.

They do not look exactly they way I would like either and they do not have the all American stars to deliver the soap opera dramas that some are watching for but in my opinion last year the racing was fun to watch and this year was even better. I am not to interested in the off track drama so much, but do enjoy that most of the drivers are humble and interesting to listen too. I prefer short ovals but it did not seem to matter what type of track they have been on this year, good races have happened on street, road, short ovals and long ovals. Some were boring but you can't win them all. My least favorite is street circuits, I have been to Toronto and hated only being able to see two corners. I went to Kentucky last year with low expectations as cookie cutters are not the greatest and found it to be great! Much like a short track you cannot appreciate the racing on TV because the cameras only catch a small amount of the action. I will consider this race if there is some USAC racing in the area at the same time.  To each their own, I look forward to watching this on TV next year (at least).

I'd go, worth a half hour ride to see a series I haven't seen in at least a decade.  Not my favorite form of racing, but it is racing and I wouldn't pass up a chance to see a mational series running that close to home (as long as they don't put them on the road course!!).

Even if I could drive there --NO WAY on this one; not because of the drivers or cars...it's the damn track. Road course?  Total BS!!! REAL road courses have elevation changes, different degree turns--never ENTIRELY on a flat surface inside of traditional oval.  Daytona gets away with it because of the severe bankng in turns one and two.  Although it has a longstanding history. Sebring's course is flat as can be; the only elevation changes at that place come from the many tar filled expansion strips which, combined with the length of the race, truly tests the cars and driverse ndurance.  Homestead-Miami's road course has one little undulation in it with a relatively tight turn...One of the all-time great road courses sits on land mostly taken up now by New Hampshire Motor Speedway; it was called "Bryar road course" and some of the remnants of it can be seen off the back straight and are now used for motorhome parking. Along with the Glen "long course" , Road America, Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta are pretty much the only "true road-racing" tracks in the Northeast NASCAR "neutered" both Sonoma and the Glen with shorter, less challenging track layouts--and they're real Jokes!!!

I'm pretty sure they are going to race on the “The Tricky Triangle” NASCAR track.     :)
