FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY TO HONOR MIKE COLSTEN WITH SEASON OPENING MODIFIED SOUTHERN TIER OPEN ON SATURDAY, APRIL 18TH.

KIRKWOOD, NY?Five Mile Point Speedway will honor the memory of legendary driver Mike Colsten on Saturday, April 18th.  The Mike Colsten Remembered Southern Tier Open will honor the all-time Five Mile Point Speedway great.  The Modified race will be 51 laps commemorating the number that he raced his entire career and will pay a minimum of $2,500 to win with the goal of trying to raise that total to $5,100 to win with ongoing sponsorship efforts.

Colsten was one of the winningest and most popular drivers of all time at Five Mile Point Speedway over his legendary career.  On the track he raced to over one hundred feature wins and five Modified Track Championships.  Colsten was also a Late Model Track Champion and captured big Modified wins in the Southern Tier 100 in 1993 and won the Southern Tier Open in 2001 and 2008 and was a four-time Heath Memorial race winner.  He was also one of the original All-Time 50 Greatest Drivers at Five Mile Point Speedway as announced back in 2000.

Mike Colsten held the nicknames ?The Recycler? and ?Mr. Ford Power? as the majority of his racing career he utilized Ford powered Modifieds to success.  He seemed to have a leg up on the competition when it came to opening day at Five Mile Point Speedway with six opening day Modified victories.  His last win came on opening day April 9, 2017.

The April 18th race will serve as the Modified season opener which is certainly appropriate with Mike?s past opening day heroics.  As a two-time winner of the Southern Tier Open it also fitting that Mike Colsten be remembered with that event.

Lap sponsorships are currently being sought as well for all 51 laps of the Modified feature event.  Long-time crew member of the #51 team Dan Hollenbeck is leading the lap sponsorship efforts along with the help of Sue Goodwin.  Anyone wanting to sponsor a lap can contact Dan directly at 607-349-5073.

Five Mile Point Speedway will officially open the 70th season of racing on Saturday, April 4th with the GRIT Crate Sportsman Cold Cracker event.

The finishing touches are being put on the 70th Anniversary Five Mile Point Speedway schedule and will be out in the days to come.
