I would suggest checking with Ron Narducci. He supposedly won the 1st feature @ Weedsport. When I started goign to Weedsport in early '60s, the announcers tower is where it is now.

This is from the Syracuse Post Standard July 10, 1955

DIRT Program 1980 #1

That is odd. The 1954 aerial shot does show a track already there.

I did some research and discovered there is a file labeling error with that particular paper on the site.

Wow. I did pull that ad from Fulton, but a filing error is something I never considered. I have found several discrepancies in my research, and I normally double check them by reading the printed date on the newspaper itself. Apparently I didn't do that with this one.

"Good catch," he said, embarrassingly.  :-[

What an incredible tangent this thread took...wow. Thanks Bigfeet13. I have been scouring threads for stuff regarding the Southern Tier and in those "travels" I had yet to see pics of John Ody...cool stuff! Also a great article on Ronnie Narducci. As the article stated he got his start at South Seneca... er Ovid Speedway...Awesome!!!

Not a problem. A lot of the southern tier, and northern pa. guys used to come up and run Weedsport and RW. I have a ton of racing programs, and quite a few have driver profiles of some of those guys. Chuck Akulis, Mike Colsten, Pete Cordes, Frank Mears, etc. When I get some time I can scan them and post in the southern tier thread, if it's something you could use.

Yeah, sorry Bob for hijacking the thread.

No complaints about hijacking here. This is all educational stuff and there is a decent amount of interest in it, based on the views it gets.
