Today, Heart of a Champion's 'Saturday Salute' is Honorary-Maritimer, Don Biederman! :)
From Port Credit, Ontario, Don's racing career began in 1964 at Pinecrest Speedway racing against the likes of Jim Hallahan and Earl Ross!
Don was a Canadian icon in the racing world.  A self-made man, Don lived for racing and he made it his career.  A career highlighted with hundreds of feature wins, with some of the BIG wins coming at Jukasa Motor Speedway in the Maple Leaf 250, Riverside International Speedway in the IWK 250, Official Page of Oxford Plains Speedway in the Oxford 250 and Riverglade Speedway in the International 100! :)
Don's career took him from coast to coast and even ran 2 years on the NASCAR Cup series circuit in the mid to late 60's.
Don was always a fan favorite and a man who spoke his mind, whether you agreed or not. :)  To say Don was a 'character' would be an understatement and arguably one of the best stock car drivers ever in Canada. :)
Don, you raced and lived with the Heart of a Champion! :)  Sadly missed and NEVER forgotten. :)

CAN-AM SPEEDWAY DRIVERS HONORED AT ANNUAL BANQUET

With the 2020 racing season just five weeks away, it was time to officially closeout the 2019 season at Can-Am.  A great crowd gathered at the beautiful 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton NY this past Saturday night, to honor the 2019 Champions and other top drivers in each division.  Canadian Ryan Arbuthnot earned his first Can-Am Speedway, Whitesboro Plow Shop-358 DIRTcar Championship with a solid season at the fast 1/2 mile clay oval beating out multi-time champ Billy Dunn.  The FX Caprara Honda-DIRTcar Sportsman Championship came down to the final lap, on the final night.  Taylor Caprara came away with the top spot over Jackson Gill in the great season long battle. It was father and son fighting for the FABCO-Pro Street Championship and neither one planned on giving an inch to the other on the final night.  Shawn Kirby went on to add another track championship to his resume beating out his father Rick Dusckas to make it a one-two finish.  Zac Petrie was the one beat in 2019 in the TLC Real Estate/Agent Marsha Gibbons-Thunder Stock division.  Petrie took home the Championship trophy outdistancing Chuck Monica for the number one spot.  Track announcer Jeff Barrett talked about the solid season at Can-Am before introducing track owner Tyler Bartlett.  Bartlett thanked everyone for coming and helping with the continued growth at Can-Am.  He also touched on some of the new things to come in 2020 with new lighting and the replacement of grandstand bleacher boards. DIRTcar Northeast director Dean Reynolds got up in front of the crowd and talked about Can-Am's growing support of DIRTcar and the Pro Stock DIRTcar sanction for 2020.  Reynolds talked about the upcoming Big Block Series race at Can-Am that will again kick off the series and what a huge success last years event was.  Bartlett then introduced Steve Weed, from Steve Weed Productions, who made the announcement about the return of Can-Am Clips in 2020.  The once popular show about the weekly racing at Can-Am, will start out as Podcast and build to what is hoped to be a weekly TV show again on NBC Watertown.  Steve Weed Productions has state of the art video equipment and a vast knowledge of the video production business, which will help elevate Can-Am to next level and to continue it's growth.  The next event on the Can-Am Speedway calender, is the upcoming Syracuse Motorsports Expo on March 14th and 15th at the NYS Fairgrounds.  Track officials will be on hand talking with racers and fans about the exciting 2020. Those in attendance can pick up the new schedules, purchase season passes and DIRTcar licenses or just chat about the coming season. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Can-Am Speedway or call the office at 315-876-3478.
