I could understand paying $60 for pit entry if you wanted to run the make up ss race and this week's ss race because that's what the 7 or 8 paid last week to get in but a buy in for a feature with such a car count I've never heard of that only heard of buy ins for provisionally in a feature with 24 cars. 4/23/16 Results-
KEVIN JORDAN AND ANDREW SMITH OPEN NEW SKYLINE RACEWAY PARK ERA WITH FEATURE WINS

After 28 seasons under the promotion of the Payne Family, the Skyline Raceway Park opened for the 2016 season under the direction of Dean and Donna Catlin. The Catlin Family and their staff have been hard at work since the purchase was complete preparing the speedway for opening night. Their hard work was rewarded was a very successful opening night that saw Speedsville, NY's Kevin Jordan drive to victory in the Open Sportsman feature while Andrew Smith earned the Crate Sportsman victory. The Street Stocks returned to Skyline after a season off the schedule as Jon Carpenter picked up the STAR Series feature win. Jason Thomas opened the Factory Stock season with his first career Skyline win, while Mike Smith made a successful return to IMCA Modified racing with a victory after a two year hiatus. Chris Bonoffski picked up the win in the $200 to win Wolfpack sponsored Four Cylinder feature.

The 20 lap Open Sportsman feature saw Lisa Williams showing the way early as Kevin Jordan, who was a late arrival at the Speedway and did not run a heat race, was making his way from the rear of the field. Following a caution flag period, Jordan was able to work his way past Williams to take over the race lead. Once out front, Jordan was able to drive away from Williams, who was now facing a challenge from former Skyline track champion Nick Nye for the runner-up position. Nye was able to slip past Williams for second and set his sights on Jordan. Over the closing laps of the event, Nye was able to narrow the distance between himself and Jordan, but ran out of laps and had to settle for a runner-up finish. Williams crossed the line in third with thirty year racing veteran Bill Leonard fourth. Newcomer Mike Dawson finished fifth in his first Skyline start.

The story was much the same in the 602 Crate Sportsman division as Andrew Smith did not arrive at the Speedway until after the hear races were complete and had to start in the rear of the field. Wheeling a brand now experimental 2016 Bicknell chassis designed expressly for Crate Sportsman racing, Smith powered his way through the field to take over the race lead prior to the halfway point. Once out front, Smith dominated the second half of the event to pick up the victory, his second career Skyline feature win in three appearances. Behind him, the battle was on for second as fan favorites Tommy Paige and Gary Card Jr. locked in a torrid battle for that position. Paige would hold off Card for second with Card third. Pat Jordan finished fourth with Isaiah Forward fifth.

Arkport, NY's Mike Smith returned to Skyline's victory lane for the first time in more than two years as he made a successful return to IMCA Modified racing with a return to Skyline's victory lane. Smith had to work for the win as he and Will Ward battled tooth and nail for the feature win. Their battle went right down to the final turn of the final lap with Smith just nosing our Ward for the win. Ward settled for second with Bump Scutt finishing third aboard the former Chris Fleming Victory Chassis that he purchased over the winter. Drue Perrault and Jeff Cardinale were fourth and fifth respectively.

The ressurected Southern Tier Auto Racing (STAR Series) came back to Skyline for the first time in several years as the Street Stocks took center stage for a 25 lap feature event. Rich Sharpsteen led the early stages of the feature before Jon Carpenter made what would prove to be the winning pass with a big move out of the second turn. Wheeling the Boynton Motorsports #3L, Carpenter led the rest of the way to secure the $750 victory and his second straight STAR Series win. Tyler Yeagle drove from deep in the field to finish third with Jack Holcomb Jr. fourth. Eric Boynton rounded out the top five finishers.

Jason Thomas dominated the Factory Stock feature as he led the entire distance to earn the win. Thomas earned his first career Skyline feature win by a comfortable margin over Don Reeves. Former champion Bill Flask finished third while Tony Paige and Cody Baker were fourth and fifth.

Chris Bonoffski and Rich Wagner battled for the win in the Four Cylinder Stock feature event with Bonoffski coming out on top to score the win over Wagner. Phil Burns led early before settling for a third place finish with defending champion Eric Rowley finishing fourth. Cody Nelsen finished fifth.

Racing continues Saturday night with another big six division racing card. The IMCA Modifieds will take center stage for a 30 lap, $500 to win STAR Series feature. The season's first kid's bicycle race will be run at intermission, kids are required to bring their bikes and helmets to compete. Racing gets underway at 6:30 PM sharp.

Just a question for you old man did the "outsiders" pay for a pit pass to compete? Is their car legal for the track? Is there any rule there that you have to buy tires or fuel from track to compete there? Wait I'll answer that for u NO!!! I'm sure not all teams that were there from the beginning of the night bought tires and fuel from the track and I'm sure teams brought their own food and drink and didn't spend money at track I guess they can't race either?? That's the problem these days instead of worrying about your own car and performance people find it easier to complain about other competitors.

The track formerly known as the Black Rock Speedway has a new owner and a new name for the 2016 season.

It was just a few years ago Tyler Siri attempted to purchase the third-mile facility from long-time owner Dean Hoag. The agreement didn’t come to fruition at the time. This off-season the pair again struck up the conversation with the sale of the speedway to Siri being completed.

“It’s going to be awesome,” said Siri when reached by phone. “Everyone is super excited. We got a great schedule put together. The changes we are going to make out of the box should impress people. The place is great. We are going to clean it up, and with the management we got we should be able to knock it out of the park right out of the box.”

With new ownership comes another name change for the facility. Rather than go traditional, Siri has elected to think outside the box on his name for the speedway. He won’t use Dundee, Yates County or Black Rock in the name, instead he’s going with Outlaw Speedway.

“I think the Outlaw has a cool name to it; it attracts fun and excitement,” stated Siri. “I think it’s a cool name for the younger people too. It’s got a good ring to it. It’s fresh. It is something different. We are going to have pace car, safety trucks, everything is going to have the outlaw look. The guy did an awesome job designing the logo for me so I think it should be pretty cool.”

The weekly divisions will remain unchanged as he’ll continue to have the Modifieds, Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds and the 4-Cylinders. He’s adding the Crate Late Models on a weekly basis as well. Rules for the Modifieds will follow along with what Brett Deyo has done with the Short Track Super Series.

“We are going with Brett Deyo rules so we can cater to everyone,” he said. “The guys at Woodhull run the 370 engines, the big-block guys can come from Canandaigua, Brewerton, or Fulton. It’s going to be American Racer and Sail Panels. We haven’t decided on fuel yet.”

As a driver Siri understands the financial commitment it takes to field a race car week in and week out. As a result he’s increasing the purses in some of the divisions to help off-set the cost. He’s also paying a hefty point fund at seasons end.

“We are going to pay the Modifieds $2,000 to win and $200 to start every week,” commented Siri. “We are also bumping up the pay for the 4-Cylinders to $300 to win and the IMCA Modifieds to $500 to win each week. The Sportsman and Street Stock purses will stay the same. The Modified champion will win $5,000 while the other divisions will get at least $1,000 for the title.”

As far as the grounds are concerned, Siri has plans to update much of the facility to give it a fresh look for the upcoming season. The last several years have seen the facility leased to various promoters with little done to the overall look of the track.

“We are going to do a lot of painting and a lot of cleaning,” stated Siri. “We are going to tear down a couple things and put some new siding on some things. I’m going to seed the infield. We are going to add billboards near the road as well. We are going to put new clay on track once the season gets going. I don’t want to do it now and risk it not meshing together well.”

Siri has placed an emphasis on getting the fans in the stands. He’s planning activities for the kids including bringing back monster truck rides each week. He hopes to do several other things as well to improve the weekly attendance.

“We aren’t going to be just a back gate race track,” Siri said. “I know why people do it but we are going to spend the extra time, people and money to cater to the fans. We need the fans in stands to get the sponsors. We are going to make it the place to be on Friday nights.”
He also indicated that along with cleaning and fixing up the concession stands he’ll do what he can to improve the efficiency. In the past the slow moving lines in the concession area has been problematic. Siri will do what he can to remedy that situation by adding more staff and more open windows.

Siri has already spoken with several key people and has put together a staff. The only position he has yet to fill is the announcer’s chair. One familiar name that will be a weekly presence is Dick Stark. The former Thunder Mountain Speedway promoter and current GRIT Sportsman Series promoter will serve as overseer on race nights.

Those looking for more information about the upcoming season at Outlaw Speedway can attend a meeting this coming Saturday. Siri has reserved space at the American Legion in Dundee, N.Y., for Saturday morning, February 6 at 10am in order to hold to speak with drivers, owners and fans.
