Racing Discussion / Re: It doesn't happen very often but...

It was a really good weekend of racing!  It wasn't perfect (lights, flagging) but local short track racing can't be.  That's part of the appeal, I think.  The car counts were great, the track is first class...can't wait until next year.

Since the asphalt season typically starts later in May here in wny I have some confidence that we will get most of the season in.  Even if you disagree please don't burst my bubble...

I also watched the irace.  When iracing was being discussed in past years I thought there was no way I would ever watch other people play video games.  But, given the circumstances, I thought anything is better than nothing.  I was really surprised that I enjoyed it!  The realism was incredible and with Mike Joy, Jeff Gorden, and Larry MacReynolds doing the broadcast it provided a little sense of normalcy.  And I think, regardless of what opinion one might have of the current situation I think that we can all agree that we miss normal.  I'll be watching this Sunday as well...

I find it to be old hat also.  I do understand that a driver may want to celebrate a victory, but I can't believe that all of them want to do a burnout...it seems contrived to me.  But, I've never won a Cup race, so...what do I know.

Always amazes me that with as many people in this state that hate Cuomo(myself included) how the heck does he get re-elected.I would think that there are enough voters out there to out number the NYC and burb voters, the only people he really cares about .

There are about 19.5 million people in NYS.  NYC has about 8 million.  When you add in Queens, Brooklyn, Yonkers, Long Island, etc. the totla in that area is about 13 million.  That leaves 6 million or so in the rest of the state.  Add in Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, that brings the city (I know, LI isn't a city but it kinda votes like one) population to about 14ish million.  5-6 million of us that prefer suburban or country living can't overcome those numbers.

They did a fine job to get the show in as far as they did.  Yes, the rain stopped a few hours before but the effect of the rain was still evident when the heat races started.  The track is notorious for holding moisture and even having rain water ooze up after heavy rain.  Maybe the announcer thinks we are stupid.  Or, maybe the rain really did result in that 45 minute delay.  Hard to know for certain, I guess.
We have the wonderful freedom of expression in this country and I am all for exercising that right.  I am left wondering, however, what one hopes to accomplish by criticizing people who are staging a live outdoor event that doesn't go as an individual hopes it will.

At the risk of sounding confused (okay, I am confused) are NYS Super Stocks also ROC Super Stocks?  Or is the Big Ten ROC Super Stocks?  Or are they the same?

I was in the pits helping a friend with his superstock; from my perspective the show moved along very well.  There was no intermission, no overly-long yellows, nothing that the track did to hold things up.  I'm not sure why ROC uses heats and time trials to set the field...but that's how they do it.  Yes, it's a late night for me also because I drive nearly 2 hours to get there and back.  But, remember, we do it because it's fun.

In years gone by Lancaster used Wednesday as a rain date.  The track is busy Wednesdays now so that wouldn't really work.  But let's give the new owners a chance to get their legs under them before we get too excited about things.

Racing Discussion / Spencer Speedway practice
« on: June 20, 2019, 02:58:00 PM »
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information online regarding the practice tomorrow at Spencer speedway.  Does anybody know what time it starts?  Is there better contact info than I have?  The number listed on the web page is not connected...

Any help would be appreciated.

Dirt on the Lancaster oval would be tatamount to sacrilege.  And, yes, I know that it started out as a dirt track.  And there are great dirt tracks around (Ransomville, for example).  But for my money Lancaster is still the best track I've ever watched an asphalt modified race on.  Selfish, I know, but it is a great asphalt track and I would hate to see it compromised.

The First Amendment guarentees that you can't be prosecuted by the government for speech.  It doesn't gurentee that there won't be consequences for said speech from the general public.

If you have a contract, for example, with an entity that prohibits negeative comments, and you make negative comments, the entity has the right to execute the contract.  It might have been the smarter play for the racetrack to have that clause as a condition for a license.  If you then say mean things about the track or it's personell then your license gets revoked.

I watched; thought it was very good.  I would like to be the authorized Troyer distributor there!

Yes.  With the short straights and limited WOT time, the lightweight crank would allow the engine to get to higher RPM more quickly.  Then at the end of the straight, you can hold your foot in it longer because the engine will decelerate quicker as well.  That means less brake pressure to get the car slowed for the turn.  It might actually be a bigger advantage there than at a bigger track (like Lancaster).  That's how I understand it anyway...
