As a driver and a spectator I prefer a heavy fast track, it's way more fun! But I usually do better on a slick track as ultimate engine power has less to do with success than good car control. What I really like is for the conditions to vary dramatically week to week. Because if the track turns hard slick every week all the teams dial in for "hard-slick" and the guys with the most expensive equipment win because they never miss the set-up. When the track varies week to week, all teams have to put their best guess under the car.....sometimes the big money guys miss it a hair and the low budget guy stands a chance if he gets closer to the best setup or does a better job of driving the car with a less than optimal set up under it. it's just one of the reasons I like dirt more than pavement.

From a drivers perspective. I'd agree with this post the most. Heavy tracks are awesome because when you get on the throttle it just sucks your eyeballs into the back of your head. Sometimes a little tougher to drive on without a few adjustments because of alllll that added traction and grip. Dry slick definitely makes it tougher to get that traction sometimes putting a bigger motor at a disadvantage if there is a throttle happy driver behind it.  But with the race track varying (if thats in anyway possible) it makes it so ppl do in the pits what they should be doing. working on race cars!! Changing this, adjusting that, putting air here, taking stagger out there.....etc. make the drivers use there brains to win instead of allowing the guy with top of the line equipment and motor lap the field week in and week out.

Does anyone have a complete listing of the payouts for all the classes on a regular night show at woodhull? SS, Late model, mod, crates, minis? Thanks!

Too many rule changes are just as bad as not enough. Woodhull is one of the few (or any) tracks in the area that have kept so strongly to there rules. Like it or not its commendable. It seems like on a weekly basis money is what is winning the feature no matter where you go. This guy has the bigger motor, this guy has the new tires, this guy has less weight, this guy has better this/that......etc. the list goes on forever. I don't know if a million rules in the world can ever make it so the guy that is losing (or even winning) feels that it is fair. So can we really blame the track for low car counts? I mean we had a long and dam cold winter. Some guys are probably a little late finishing up there cars. Hell I'm running the old car yet and the new one is sitting in the yard because its not done yet! So I would wait until a few more races before going and changing the rules all up! And I'm not even going into the falcon/crate...etc. option because that is a whole nother can of worms on a different post  8) Again everything is JMO ---> Josh Ames 110 Street Stock

The Tech Barn / final drive ratio
« on: October 24, 2013, 08:08:44 PM »
i'm looking for the "FORMULA" that people use to formulate the final drive ratio on street stocks. i run a 7.5 rear end. i have a 1.76 glide and a 1.82. wondering how people do the math w/ the tranny and rear gear to come up w/ the final drive. also if someone has the first gear ratio on a turbo 350 that would help too. THANKS! ------------------>Josh Ames

Although interesting enough, it sounds like a track that racers w/ high dollar would rule easily. The least that should be done is everyone on the same tire. Obviously the common one anymore thats ran is the AR's.  I race street stock and i'd be out. As far as the other topic...I DO believe that a person or ppl or business could make money running a race track. Not millions, but money. It takes more effort and time than i've seen some tracks put in in past. all is IMO

Racing Discussion / Re: Crate vs rules resricted dirt Street Stocks.

I was gonna keep quiet on this one, but i suppose one more opinion won't hurt. We can't understand why running a crate option allows for so many more advantages. Run a crate motor against open ("open" can mean a lot anymore) motors, let them run a little lighter whatever. But a 4 barrel? AND a falcon trans? It's like running IMCA vs. street stock....except the IMCA is on American Racers

i agree w/ purestock50. there saturday night crowd would be amazing. and i'd definitely go for that instead of rushing home from work to run right to the track. as it stands we have a relaxed saturday of heading to 5 mile point. never been disappointed yet. what a fun and fast track. but i'd like to make my way back closer to home, just wish dunn hill would find the right kind of management or help that it needs. its a fun and fast little bull ring. its tight, its short, small, so it makes for some pretty decent bumpin and banging, but they have let some ppl over there get way out of control w/ the "bumpin and banging." other than that, best payout in the area no doubt, close to home, and that track has tons of history on it. Just wish it would reach its full potential and see what it could really be....
