Next Tues. June 28th there will be a Dirt legal 358 modified event on the asphalt at Dunn Tire Raceway Park. Drivers scheduled to race are Pete Bicknell, Chad Brachman, and our own regular modified drivers Eric Rudolph and Chuck Hossfeld. This race will be a Syracuse qualifier for both the 358 mods and Sportsman so you can look for other big names to show up as well. This will be a show you do not want to miss. Other divisions on the card will be the TQs, 4 cyls. and the street stocks.
-
Some asphalt Sportmods should be included......as an experiment. Hey!!! call me crazy.
-
I can't wait !!!!! Should be an awesome show !!!!!!
-
Some asphalt Sportmods should be included......as an experiment. Hey!!! call me crazy.
I agree, but only if the top Sportmod takes the car to Syracuse. lol
-
should be interesting-current Merrittville 358 mod drivers Scott Wood and Ken Winfield both have asphalt experience from their late model days at Holland and Chad Brachmann's dad (Mike) drove in the old charger division at Holland too.
Thinking that a dirt sportsman might be able to hook up pretty good too.
I don't see mention of the tq's on the poster for the race. 3 divisions might be just right!
-
There will definitely be some dirt sportsman at this show.
-
They get it done at Airborne, this should be a good show if the car count is decent.
-
up up
-
i know I will have to check this show out whats the admission?
-
Any word on other drivers showing up?
-
i herd that matt sheppard will be there along with brett hearn, not positive on that though
-
ill be there [spec tatin]
-
Matt Sheppard will be at I-88 for the RoC Dirt race that night. Brett Hearn doesn't have any races on his schedule for that night according to his website.
-
TTT
-
Dunn tires ad for this race has Bicknell,D Johnson, Stew Friesen,Chuck Hossfeld And Matt Shepard as confirmed entries for this race!!!!
-
Ticket pricing is as follows for this event:
Adults $18
Children ages 8 to 14 $5
Under 8 $1
Back gate pricing $30 with ANY license $40 without
Just to clarify on the appearance of Stew Friesen and Matt Sheppard. The flyers that everyone has been seeing were made after Speedweeks at Volusia at which time both drivers were commited to the event. Since that time their schedules have been revised recently and Matt will be going to I-88 Speedway for the Thunder on the Thruway series and Stewart is headed to Stafford for a charity event. Drivers and teams schedules change periodically throughout the season and it is unfortunate they will not be with us.
-
Talked to Chuck last night at Ransomville and he stated he was NOT racing at dtrp :-\
-
Could someone start a list of drivers that are going to be racing
-
Possible drivers:
Pete Bicknell
Chad Brachman
Eric Rudolph
-
Any of the Airborn, albany Saratoga, Whitelake cars going to be there?
-
The june 28th show at I-88 isnt a ROC its a Thunder on the Thruway race and Brett Hearn supposed to be going for that title
-
I will be working on the thruway tues.and will report what cars I see go by.
-
and as stated in another thread, Stewart Friesen will be at Stafford Springs running there for the "Champions for Charity" event to benefit the Spaulding Foundation.
http://www.raceny.com/smf2/index.php?topic=17399.0 (http://www.raceny.com/smf2/index.php?topic=17399.0)
But I will be there spectating!
-
Matt Sheppards website confirms he will be at I-88 Speedway.
-
I've already stated in this thread they have made other commitments.
-
Just wondering why 18 dollars for this event and how many laps is the dirt mod event.
-
The Dirt Modified feature is scheduled for 50 laps.
-
DIRT Feature is 35 Laps
-
I cant believe there is not some sort of roster for this race!!!
-
Is this event still on or is Ralph going to bone the dirt drivers because of lack of fans for Tuesday event?
-
Is this event still on or is Ralph going to bone the dirt drivers because of lack of fans for Tuesday event?
Showers in the forecast....oh man i'm closin' my eyes....don't even wanna know how this ends up.
-
stewert freisen will be at i-88 speedway that is confirmed
-
The Casey's Midgets will be there with most if not all of our top drivers. Tuesday night is tough for some but as far as I know we will have a full field. We are looking forward to putting on the best show we can for the fans in the stands. It's unfortunate that DTRP failed to show us on the poster but we will do our best to give everyone the best show we can. Please come and support your local track and enjoy our show....Jim
-
The forcast has improved dramatically over the last couple hours. Hoping for a good turn out of Dirt Mods! Should be interesting to see some of the Airborne drivers that are used to running these type of cars on a pavement surface versus some local guys that know the track itself a little better. Todd Burley maybe?
-
TQ41: Don't take it so personally, that flyer was made up probably before the TQ were officially added to that show. If you bothered to look at the schedules that the track hands out or the schedule on the website it lists the TQs are running and I have mentioned the TQs are running anytime I promoted the show while announcing. I doubt it was done to slight your group.
Look tonight is going to be a fun show no matter who shows up. Yes if I had anything to do it with that flyer listing drivers that at one time DID confirm they were running this race that later backed out would have disappeared or been changed a long time ago but that's not my department. Either way I think it will be worth it to see something that has never happened at that race track, at leat not in my lifetime and I think/hope the people from DIRTCar who are assisting with this program will make sure their drivers are taken care of.
Yes what happened Saturday was very unpleasant but it was probably done so the gates at that track can remain open come August and September. When I left the tower at the end of the night there was one person left sitting up there, it was Ralph and he didn't look very happy about what had happened either.
What are you people that constantly throw stones going to do when there's nothing left to hit because you knocked it all down?
-
Wow Dave...Dude back off on the coffee, I didn't take it personally. Very simply I am promoting our own show the same as you are. The last few seasons we've seen several very great comments concerning our show at DTRP. My hope was by pointing out we will be there, with many or all of our top drivers, that may make the difference of coming or not for a few "fans in the stands". ie: Positive promotion! Please re-read my post in the tone it was meant.
To all of the fans that may be on the fence about attending tonight...Please come, this will be a great evening of racing and as I stated earlier the midgets will do thier best to give you the best show we can....Jim
-
Do you really blame Hossfeld for backing out of this event? If I were him, I would have backed out too. In fact, I would not be surprised if only 10 cars or so showed for tonight. It's a shame that word travels fast and how wrong the drivers and race teams have been treated thus far.
Dave - If the flyer was made up before the TQ's were scheduled to be on the race card for tonight's racing, then someone in that office should have made another poster to be put up. It takes what, an extra few minutes to make another poster? I have to agree with TQ41 on this, it's a shame that you couldn't recognize them after they were added. Also, if Ralph didn't look to happy with what had happened Saturday night, then he should have never done it to begin with.
Tigerpaw - I wouldn't put it past Ralph to bone the driver's that show up tonight.
Leftturnjohnny and Justmark - According to the schedule that is posted on the DTRP website, they are scheduled to have a 50 lap feature - so which one is correct now, the 50 lapper or the 35?
-
Wow, Casey's Midgets + 358 DIRT Modifieds, Street Stocks and 4 cylinders, going to be a great night of racing tonight. This will be my first trip to DTRP to shoot and I am super pumped. Anybody want to go from the Syracuse area, give me a call. (315)481-4175. Have a great day.

-
Jim, you are right and I am sorry. I shouldn't hop on here 1st thing in the morning but I stand by everything I else I said. Also I talked to Chuck Hossfeld on Saturday and he said his Dirt car still isn't ready and it's taking longer than expected.
-
Hey, the weather is going to be good. How about everybody just go enjoy the show and support the local track. What happened in the past, leave in the past.
-

Thank you Jay, if you make your way over to the midget pits please stop by and introduce yourself.
Jim, you are right and I am sorry.
Thank you Dave, let's have a good time tonight!

Please everyone support your local tracks!!.........Jim 8)
-
Dude, I, like the majority of people have been pretty tight lipped about what happened Saturday night out of respect for the speedway and the staff that puts so much into it......MOST everybody is sitting on their hands, to give the track a chance for a successful show tonight......As Larry has stated, word travels fast, take a look over at DTD...... Inevitably, some tree-hugger type will be on here tomorrow morning blaming the tracks lack of success on the internet........YOU, now have already stirred that pot this morning. EVERYONE already knows what the BIGGEST problem is at Lancaster.......The track will have to live with the repercussions of Ralph's actions as long as he is in charge......No one else made that decision......He not only boned the drivers, he ruined all the good that LORI has done, undermining her efforts, she is the one I have the most sympathy for....... I don't think any effort to invoke sympathy for Ralph is going to fly here or in any racing garage in NY state...............................
-
I had the same conversation with Chuck about tonights show, he hates not being there, but as Dave stated, he doesnt even have the car finished to run on dirt, let alone change over to run at DTRP.
As for some of the other names who had committed earlier in the year, that was before I-88 scheduled this big show, and lets face it, the guys who run Dirt for a living need to follow the points and the payout.
The Dirtcar official I spoke to said that they expect(expect not guarantee, let me clarify so I am not crucified tomorrow) to have at least 25 358's attend tonights show, so along with the TQ's, Street Stocks and 4 cyl's, it should be a very good show.
And to verify, the 358 feature will be 35 laps.
-
So is ticket price still going to be 18 now that its 35 laps not 50 laps?
-
It seems no matter who the owner is people complain about how they run things, bottom line without an owner we have no track.I definatly don't agree what Ralph has done but i do know he loves racing and is probably kills him to do these things. I think he should call some kind of meeting with drivers, officials, fans etc and tell everyone where things stand and what we can all do to help,as much as we all love racing and have ideas I'm sure we would do whatever it
takes to keep the place open and improve it.

Just what the "Doctor" ordered, good weather, fast cars, sounds damn good to me. See you guys in a bit.
JF
-
Just seen two haulers heading that way.
-
Looks like the weather is gonna hold off for you guys up there, Jay can't wait to see the pictures when you post them.... Hope this goes good....
-
hate to be the bearer of bad news but thunder lighting and pouring rain in Rochester
-
i'll be the bearer of good news the weather 5 miles west of the track is beautiful and sunny. just saw two trailers headed to the track. hope lots of cars show up.
-
It can rain all it wants in Rochester...weather fronts usually move west to east.
-
Dude, please accept my apologies if I was a bit snippy earlier. I know that your heart is in the right place and I hope people realize that mine is too. You were just trying to help and so am I. I should have waited for a better time and/or place to make my point..............kt
-
OK rain is gone if I can get this fuel line back on my car so am I. Its going to be a great night of raceing.
-
No worries KT, I pretty much lost all patience this morning and that's why I went off like that and I respect your opinion more than most around here anyway....
-
PERFECT WEATHER NOW- NOT A CLOUD IN THE SKY HERE NOW,HOT WITH A STEADY BREEZE-LET'S GO RACIN!

I do not believe the Afton/I-88 race is a DIRT sanctioned event. Instead, it is part of the "outlaw" Thunder on the Thruway series being contested at Utica-Rome, Fonda, and now Afton/I-88.
-
Time for a group hug?..........lol
-
Half way decent crowd and any one know what the lap times or speed for this beast?
-
First of all the dirt mod are cool on asphalt. That being said i feel rip off 18 dollars for 10 cars, all i got to say is Ralph is making money tonight and with money he made he can pay the purse hopeful for the next asphalt modified event.
-
Lap times were around 18.4-18.5 for the fast cars. The asphalt mods are usually 17.7 ish. The Dirt mods are cool to see on asphalt.
-
So far tq widgets are stealing the show
-
whos all there
-
18.5 is pretty good for never seeing the place before and running dirt tires. I'd bet after a few visits the lap times would be on par with the asphat mods. However, the cars that won would have a pretty tough time getting around any dirt track I've ever been too. ;) lol Those guys run regularly on asphalt and know what it takes to make em' go good. The gut that finished second will probably actually be at Syracuse, I'm not sure about the winner.
19.5 seconds for a dirt sportman wasn't bad either, considering it was on dirt tires and running a crate motor. That car runs weekly at the Big R so you know its a ligit dirt car.
I'd be interested to see if any of those cars had $50,000 engines in them, maybe a page can be taken from the dirt 358 engine rules for the future asphalt mods engines.
At least they weren't banging the chip to bad. That's one of the most anoying sounds in racing.
-
So far tq widgets are stealing the show
Not surprising; the times I've seen them the Casey's Midgets put on a whale of a show. Look at their rules package sometime, it's a good looking class to get involved in.
-
If you like watching paint dry
-
Dirt Modified 35:
1. Adam Bartemy #X
2. Keith Flach #43
3. Patrick Dupree #24
James Henry #67 received the Syracuse Sportsman spot, and I think he was ninth at the finish.
Street Stock 20 - Mike Nash #13
Four Cylinder 20 - Charles Buchanan #09
T.Q. Midget 20 - Jim Fleischman #41: first career victory
-
Dirt mods put on a good show, wouldnt mind next year if they were their once a month.

A few quick shots up from the show tonight, I will have a ton more photos of the Mods, TQ's and Street Stocks. Nice night, crowd in the stands was solid, great people too, got to meet quite a few new people at DTRP tonight.

Thanks guys.. sounded awesome... great pics jay.!!! TY
-
Nice pics Jay, any chance you got some 4 cylinder shots??? Missed another one of my brothers wins.
-
I thought it was a good show. I would have liked to see more cars but it was a good start. Have to get more local cars involved. I think this would make a nice annual mid-week show. Allows us dirt fans to enjoy it. I don't think you can run them once a month because it would get watered down and that is a lot to ask of the guys from VT to support them.
-
anyone have full mod results. Curious which local cars participated
-
these mods put on a great show, i was timing them and the fastest time i got was in the heat by the number 13 (18.15) and he wasnt even leading the race. Really felt good to sit in the old spots we used to sit in when we raced at lancaster a few years ago haha, as for the midgets they had a good race, the ending being the best, but i still hate that little track. In my opinion they didnt steal the show.
-
Any full press release on this race anywhere..............................
-
CharginCharlie---I'm sure Lori will have it posted as soon as she can...she does work her Full Time job til 6 or 630 every night....and a lot of us were there til midnight (or later) after the show, and 98% of the staff (and the racers & yes the fans too) had to be at work this morning too...one of our cornerman even had to head to his overnight shift right after the final checkered flag......
-
From Dirt Track Digest...NOT OFFICIAL.....
Just got home from work on Wed - here are the unofficial results from my notes (don't think the official press release is out yet):
Adam Bartemy, Keith Flach, Patrick Dupree, Aaron Bartemy, Andy Lindeman, Andy Powell, Ray Bliss, Jr, Tony Steiner, James Henry, Erick Rudolph. (All but Rudolph were running at the end - top 6 on lead lap.) Henry took the Syracuse Sportsman spot. Chad Brachmann was present, but trailered the car after problems during practice. Heat race winners: Andy Lindeman, Patrick Dupree.

just some thoughts. It was a noble experiment but maybe the timing was off. It's hard to explain the poor representation from the Merrittville/Ransomville 358's (maybe 45 cars) and sportsmen (likely 90 teams between Merrittville/Humberstone/Ransomville/Raceway5 and Cananadaigua) Of the 11 cars that were present, five were asphalt track ringers ( 4 dirt 358s that run at regularly Airborne at Plattsburgh and one that ran at Malta last year). Local reps were Brachmann (scratched), Rudolph and two Sportsmen-Henry and Bliss.
Thinking a little deeper, perhaps timing is everything. This coming weekend has an extra distance race at Ransomville, a regular show at Merrittville and one of Humberstone's Sunday holiday weekend 358 shows.
JMO but perhaps a show like this in the Fall would be more successful after the dirt modified tracks have finished their points championships for the season and there is less on the line. I believe usually Labor Day is the end for Dirtcar points. Maybe teams wouldn't mind burning up a few leftover dirt hoosiers on the pavement then. Would anyone think it might be an good addition to the U.S. Open or does that show already have enough divisions?
-
I added a ton more photos to the photo gallery from last night, 200+ shots of the drivers, pit side shots and on track action from the TQ's, Street Stock & Mods.
Check it out.

they add the 358 mods and dirt sportsmen to the us nationals ... i will be there everyday ....
-
Same here Willyshy I think it would be a great addition to the show
-
would be a great addition to the US Open
-
Adding 358 Modifieds to the US Open would be a difficult task. There's already a 358 and Big Block Super DIRTCar Series races scheduled for that weekend at Mohawk Raceway plus Little Valley has a 358 Modified race scheduled for September 17th which draws a good amount of teams from this area too. Sportman could be difficult too at least for local teams because Ransomville already has King of the Hill that weekend with a 100-lap Sportsman race on Saturday. Maybe if they did a Sunday only show it could work. If the Open was the following weekend (Sept 23-25) then you'd have a much better possible field with no DIRTCar series races that weekend, especially the Sportsman. There is a Thunder on the Thruway Series race at Fonda that weekend.
-
Only question I have ::::Who will pay for this extra added "Attraction?

one driver posted on dirt track digest that the dirt Hoosiers listed as the required tire for this show was not the same compound as used locally, but just happened to be the tire used at Airborne
-
Yeah Dave that really sucked only getting to stick around for one beer, don't think i've ever done that. Jay those were some great picures you took and that is one good looking corner flagman DTRP has.
-
I though seeing those guys on pavement was awesome! Wish there were more that showed up, but thats not the tracks fault. I will def be at the next show.
