The photo of the Purdy duece might be Jimmy Winks.Looking at the tires on the car it is from the early 70's.
The Picture of the Purdy Deuce Maybe Andy Brown I know he drove for a little while
I have the same photo. It's Andy Brown, 1972. Coniam was driving the Solvay Auto #04, at the time, and Bentley was driving Indy cars.
I knew you guys would get to the bottom of the Purdy Deuce riddle! We've got some great racing historians on RaceNY. I believe it is Brown in the car cause it said Brown on the back but I thought it was in reference to the photographer! In that case I'm not sure who to credit the picture to except that it is in my stack that is primarily Smith photo's.
Here's one marked 1968 National Open. I believe it's Geoff Bodines car on the strating grid at Langehorne. I don't know the man standing by the car. I have another pic of what looks to be the same car marked 1967. Does anyone know if Geoff ran with the coupe in 67 as well? I'll post that very blurry long shot next. These pics were shot by one of us Welty's with a Kodak instamatic on 110 slide film.
I remember Geoff's coupe in 1967 at Spencer. I think that was his 1st year in the mods. The coupe had red numbers, when it was there, but easily could've been redone for Langhorne.
Rocket, the car does have Red Numbers...photo's are a bit faded. Does anyone know the Man in the #99 shot? It looks like he may be posing for my Dad who probably took the pic. Could it be Tom Holleran of Tom's Speed Shop....always heard he was very involved in Geoff's early Modifieds. Here's another pic from the Langhorne grid. This time it's Flyin' Brian Osgood in the #09.
Geoff started with the modifieds in 1969.
Dale,
That #99 coupe of Bodine's was owned (I'm pretty sure) by T.K. Mclean. Don't know what he looked like, but maybe that's him in the pic?
The Sandman coupe was driven by Merv for at least a couple years, I think. I know he drove it in 1967, cuz I built a model of it that year. He was always one of my favorites too....on asphalt & dirt. For a good number of years there weren't too many better.
Does anyone know whatever happened to the coupe Merv won Langhorne with in 1970? I'd love to find/restore that bad boy. I always thought it had the coolest "look"!
1977 DIRT magazine cover. (no photographer info available). Who might this be?
Looks like Wally Burnett to me.
In answer to the question about Terry Kincaid / Bushbacker a few pages ago, here's the scoop as I remember it. Russ Kincaid (who used to destroy the field at Dundee in his 'singing saab' mini-stock in the late 60's and early 70's) had a modified and after he and Terry got together they took turns driving the modified. Let me say this, he may have been a terrific mini-stock driver but he was not as good in the modified. Terry was much better.
Cool stuff... Here's another cover from 1992 DIRT Trackin' Magazine (Dave Lukowski photos)
