More NASCAR shots from Howard Boyce...Lennie Pond @ Pocono

I really dig this one...David Pearson in the Wood brothers #21...1977 race winner (H. Boyce photo)
Bud Moore's #15... Buddy Baker? (H. Boyce photo)
The King (H. Boyce photo)
Petty's ride on pit road... (H. Boyce photo)
This is the last of the NASCAR stuff. Bobby Allison in the Penske Matador in 1974 @ Pocono. Isn't it neat how close you could get to these cars back then! (H. Boyce photo)
Never heard of that Pearson guy but you ought to be mad Bob.....he stole your paint scheme!!!
Those Woods Brothers sure do make some handsome cars!
That AMC Matador always has me wondering what would have happened if original driver, Mark Donahue had not been killed in a practice crash in an F-1 car. This car was Marks ride, and he was doing NASCAR, Indy cars, F-1 cars and Prototype Road Racing cars.
NASCAR was not a priority for either Mark or Penske at the time... but if it HAD been, Mark could have gone down as one of the best ever in Nascar.
It was after Marks death that Roger and Bobby got together, and I don't think Rogers heart was in it. He got out of NASCAR for several years, until he pulled out a single-race effort at Darlington (of all places) with a totally unknown Rookie.. some kid named Rusty Wallace. All they did that day was finished 2nd, and stunned the Nascar world. It was many years later when they hooked back up full time.

Jerry,
You sure that wasn't Atlanta? I was at the Atlanta race in '80, Dale Sr won (if I remember right Cale Yarborough broke very near the end while leading) and Rusty was second.
I think you're right DW. I believe I'm crossing 2 stories together.
It was Terry Labonte who debuted at Darlington, and got a 4th place finish right out of the box. Rusty & Roger was at Atlanta.

Don't tell any of my ex-wives that I was actually right once.
Geez Bro....you said you burned all those old brain cells out in college!!!! and here you are remembering stuff from all those years ago! That story about Darwin's theory of evolution and the strong brain cells surviving must be correct. With all the Hoopla about Danica heres a pic of Janet Guthrie at Daytona. Thank God she never did the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition!
Better be careful, Dale... the Christians don't care much for Darwin.
