the yellow car rolling over is Ron Duplantis and the white car that is sideways is Lynn Hough in the 117 which is the original show car that Billy Taylor and Geoff Bodine ran against the bat mobile at the mile
44s is Dick sundgren, He was a 5 mile regular
ESS/URC race...Chuck wasn't sure where this was at, but the car in the lead is Jeff "Spiderman" Thomas. Chuck Green collection
Another one where Chuck wasn't sure it had been taken... he was guessing it was at Selingsgrove perhaps. Chuck Green collection
That #24 is definately Don Mactavish and not Cagle. Don was an outstanding driver who was on his way to the big time when he was killed at Daytona in a Horrific crash in either the Permatex sportsman race or one of the Twin Qualifing races for the "cup" race, I can't remember which. His car impacted the cross-over gate much the way Michael Waltrip did at Bristol only at probably around 190 MPH. My Mom & Dad were sitting where what was left of the car came to rest. Glad I wasn't along for that trip to the Big "D".
Here's a Happier day. Tom Cundy and Herbie Green get their Championship trophies! This appeared in the Elmira Star Gazette when they actually covered some of the local racing and put...can you believe it!...photos of the drivers in!... and mentioned more than the same three drivers who pretty much all race on asphalt or drive sports cars.
Had posted these several years ago on the old Race New York Oldies thread----thought I would add them to this Oldies thread
From Chemung Speedrome ---1966--maybe '67 --- they were still running the "BUGS" as modifieds---feature line up shows Cliff Pierce on the pole with Brian Osgood's 09 outside pole. Cal Lane in the 220 and I think Dick Reagan in the 2A starting 4th --
The "Modern" Feature line up had Geoff bodine in the 99 on the pole with Pat Judson in the B-13 outside pole and Ike Edminsterin the 96 behind Judson. Chemung Speedrome---1966 or '67
Here's a clipping from the old Dirt trackin' magazine program...AKA Weedsport/rolling wheels program. which features my Old Racing Boss Chuck Kennison in the 9x next to Alan Johnson 14J leading the pack at Weedsport. How many can you name. Russ Mills photo.
Here's one I took at Syracuse around 1971 or 72. The #58 is Merv Treichler but can't tell who the yellow car behind him is although it looks like maybe the Brenn owned #24 which was probably driven by Stan Poloski at the time. Merv's car looks to be the same one that he won Langhorne with...at least the body looks the same. Does anyone know if this is correct? photo by Welty
Does anyone know this slightly strange Coach #3A. I shot this at Syracuse either 1971 or 72. DALE
Another Merv Triechler shot on the dirt...this on at Seneca Raceway aka Watrerloo
thats jan oukes in the 16 outside walt mitchel
We had a discussion the other night but couldn't remember what year tube frames were O.K.'d to race in central NY but here's the pic from the front page of the gator racing news. Does anyone know the year?
