Racing Discussion / Re: Five Mile Point To Open in 2019
« on: December 29, 2018, 09:25:35 PM »
Encouraging news.  Hope it works out.

FMP is one the tracks that I gripe the most about - especially regarding time management - but it seems to be the track that I attend the most for some reason.  I think it mostly has to do with their specials schedule on Sundays and mid-week.

Lock Haven, PA- The 2018 racing season is winding down at Clinton County Motor Speedway. Despite terrible weather, during the summer, the 3/8th mile oval is enjoying a rebirth as it continues on the path to return to excellence.
Several weeks ago, Promoter Sam Ray told race fans he hopes to present more special events next season. Ray decided now is the correct time to preview 2019 with the largest super late model event at the track in recent memory.
The Nittany 50 for super late models will be run Saturday October 20th. The winning driver earns $5,000.
Pro Stocks are also part of the program and will compete in a $500 to win, 20 lap feature event. A 500 cfm legal two barrel carburetor is required in the pro stock class.
General Admission tickets are reasonably priced at just $15. Students 12-17 will be admitted for $10. Pit admission is $35.
Gates open at 3 pm with warm ups set for 6. Racing is set for 6:30.
Two previous super late shows have been run CCMS this season. Dylan Yoder won the June 29th show. Coleby Frye picked up the win August 25. With most other area speedways racing concluded, a top field of competitors is expected.
The Nittany 50 is presented by S&R Repair, Towing & Recovery of Milesburg, G & R Excavating & Demolition of Tyrone and Strouse Electric Inc., of Bellefonte.

...and no one cares.

Racing Discussion / Re: Bradford live tonight

I was also disappointed with car counts...until the late model feature.  Worth every dime I paid for me and my wife.

After Thursday night at Stateline, I came to the the conclusion that there is nothing prettier in dirt track racing than a typical late model feature at Stateline Speedway.  After Friday night at Bradford, I had to reconsider that conclusion.

Bradford and Stateline always restore some of the passion that I have lost for dirt racing over the last 3 or so years.

The rest of upstate NY just doesn't get it.

Helped or hurt the racer?  Or helped or hurt racing?

You can point to some increases in numbers in crate divisions at certain tracks, but how are the stands?  How are the track owners doing because of it?

I don't know.  All I know is that I really don't attend many races anymore and that change in behavior pretty much coincides with the onset of crate world domination.  Frankly, after 40+ years of racing myself or spectating or crewing, I really don't miss it much.

If the IMCA modifieds ever take off in the Twin Tiers, rest assured that I will be back.

Thanks Carol.  Appreciated.  I don't know why, but I have a soft spot for that place.  Plus it is the closet track to me.

I agree that The Hill's website is (very) sub-par and rarely updated with pertinent and timely information.  I guess they are relying on FaceBook, in which case, their message will never get to me.

At least they have a website that I do visit occasionally to get information from.

Also, thanks to Carol for using RaceNY to get this information out.  Racing message boards, are the only other outlet outside of track websites that I use to get racing information.

Question - is the IMCA sanction in the future plans for The Hill?

I guess average is "good enough" for bakes.  Even if his claim about McDonald's CEO is true, which is obviously isn't, I still would not be upset about it.  I don't begrudge successfully people for being successful, especially when it's earned.  Rather, I see it as a standard that I could potentially achieve.  Every day that I wake up in this country, I have an opportunity to be better than I was yesterday.  What I do with that opportunity is on me.

I guess I'm the weird one.

Thanks for the heads up.

Is there any update on the status of IMCA sanction?

Admin, I believe that is the link to the former regime's website?  It still says plans for 2018 are on hold until new promoters step up.

Yes, but it has the new logo already. Like I said I think they just haven't updated the website yet. We can send a message to them and see what they say.

Thanks.  I didn't notice the new logo.

So their official website is a facebook page?

I guess I will not be getting any information on the track (code for "I will not be attending any races there") unless they post information on a site like RaceNY.  Let's hope for the latter or the development of a real website soon.

Racing Discussion / Re: stop the bad news already!

As for the IMCA's crashing, The G60 hockey puck hard tire is not conducive for good racing in the northeast due to the dry slick skating rinks that most tracks are. Go most anywhere else in the country and the tracks have bite all night and the imca mods are not slipping and sliding all over the place. The onus of the wrecks I believe more or less lies in the hands of the track prep teams. Or lack there of.

Spot on Ask.  Spot on.  IMCA modifieds are bad ***** race cars.  Everyone complains about engine costs but IMCA "regulates" engines the smart way...through tires.

The IMCA class is everything that everyone on these boards pines longingly about.  "I remember when someone could build his own engine...blah, blah, blah."  "I remember when you didn't have to carry 12 sets of tires...blah, blah, blah."  That class already exists with the IMCA modified.

Put some damned moisture in the track and enjoy.

Nice!  I LOVE the IMCA modifieds and I live 40 minutes from The Hill!

I am really looking forward to more IMCA-type races in the area!

Thanks.  I stand corrected.  So many Republicans voted "yes" then faked outrage over it 8 years later.
