He leaves behind his wife Joanie, son Rusty, daughter Jill and their families. My condolences to all of you. The suffering is over and he's in a better place now. Red was a dear family friend and I will always be grateful for knowing him. Rusty told me they are in the process of making funeral arrangements and will let everyone know when completed.   Godspeed "Red"

I agree racing has lost one of its best. I emailed Gary and Linda Beagell in Florida with this horrible news because I knew they sponsored him. Gary said he and Linda really liked Eddie and enjoyed sponsoring him. For me I lost a life long friend. I met Eddie when we were about 10 yrs old running around under the bleachers at Shangra-la. I stayed over many nights after the races when they lived on front street. When we were in high school he moved in the Windsor district where I attended. I rode to school with him often until I got my license which he helped me get. He was working at an Atlantic gas station on Harry L Drive in JC. He got me my first job there and helped me get my license while working there. Although we kind of lost touch over the years this hurts. The last time I seen him Ron called me from O'Neill's and said there's someone here that wants to see you. When I got there it was Eddie and Pat. I'm pretty sure they just bought the car he was killed in and came up for a visit. We had a lot of laughs and beers reminiscing. One last fond memory of Eddie. Ron I can't imagine how your feeling. I know how close you two were. My condolences to you and the rest of his family. Godspeed Eddie

Racing Discussion / Re: Thank You Andrew Harpell

I wrote yesterdays thank you off the top of my head and forgot to mention that Andrew also honored my daughter Marcy with a nice plaque for her 20 years as their 50/50 girl. I have no idea how I forgot that. I thought it was a class act for her to be recognized on the same night as her grandfather.  Again Andrew, we thank you.

Bashers please move on.

This is a bit overdue. On behalf of the Donahue family I would like to thank Andrew, the Heath family, and the Harpell family for a memorable night at 5 Mile Point Speedway. It was an honor for me to accept the recognition of my dad "Irish Joe Donahue" on the running of the 50th Irv Heath Memorial. I'm sure he would be proud of his sign on the backstretch wall. It was a perfect afternoon and evening. The weather, the Gary's U Pull It - Don's Automotive Mall chicken barbecue, and the racing couldn't have been better. For me it was topped off with Irv and Anna's great grandson Tanner winning the Imca feature, Mike winning the modified feature, and seeing one of my favorites Bob MacGeorge.
It's hard to believe that the Irv Heath Memorial is 50 years old. It got me to thinking. I grew up two doors from the Harpell's right down the street from the race track. We raced bikes, played football, baseball or any other normal things kids do. My dad took them to the races with us and I'm proud to call them friends. I haven't always agreed with everything they do but there is a lot to be said for a speedway built in 1951 and still running in the same family. GET TO THE POINT

Pete was a great guy and I was blessed to have him as a friend. He left us way to soon and will be missed by anyone that knew him. His years of dedication to my racing career as a crew chief and car owner will never be forgotten. Rest in peace brother. Condolences to Tammy and Jay. Calling hours are from 10 to 12 tomorrow morning followed by the funeral at Allen's Funeral Home, Main Street, Endicott

I haven't been on line for a couple of days either. I went down to see him Wednesday and was surprised to see how well he was doing. He was up doing some "laps" the day after the operation and doing more when I left Wednesday. Mike said the doctor told him they got all the cancer. It's really amazing. The doctor that performed the operation has only done 100 of them. It might of been a blessing in disguise that they never found the cancer until now so this procedure could be used. Last I heard there is a good chance he could be on his way home tomorrow.

Glad to hear your doing better you old fa rt. I had no idea you were having trouble. I hear O'Neill's is opening back up. Does that alt. have enough amps to support a couple 40's ?

We need to pray that the cancer hasn't left his lungs. The doctors told him they could cure him if that hasn't happened. He has had a pain in his chest for the past 10 years and was getting treated for pleurisy. The doctors think he has had the cancer all that time instead of pleurisy. He told me the pain is gone and he hasn't felt better in the past 10 years since the chemotherapy shrunk the tumors. He was in good spirits yesterday when I talked to him before he left. His hospital stay is expected to be 7 to 10 days. He has been running and walking 2 miles a day to get ready for his operation and try be home in 5 days. Knowing Mike like I do I wouldn't bet against it. Lea is going to call me later. I will add any information along with Cupcake that I receive. Please take a moment today and say a prayer for him.

This is a sad day for me. I was very fortunate to grow up around the pioneers and legends of our sport. I have very fond memories of Diff and his brother Bill. I grew up with both families and my prayers go out to all of you.
