because something is telling the computer you have a problem. a scan tool should be able to read the codes for you. possibly the computer control sensor, they don't like to work correctly after being overheated it seems. can be numerous other things as well. replacing parts one at a time will be costly and take a lot of time.

Is it limited to second gear when it happens and does the speedo work when it's in limp mode?
