Are we going back to the chip rule and not the gear rule?? Also, do I have to install the bars that support the top of the cage. I am all for safety but the Hans devise and full containment seat is going to set me back. I am already questioning if I can afford to race this year.
Come on! Anyone know the DIRT sanction rules for a Sportsman. CMP is now a DIRT sanction track. Is there a chip rule. Do I have to buy a DIRT license? What about the roof support bars?
In this day and age in racing... a track license is just another useless money grab used by promoters.. same as pit pad rentals and mandatory fuel purchases which continue to nickel and dime the Racers thus lessening car counts..
DIRT license really chaps my *****. My son and I will be splitting the driving duties. He is going to run Novice. It is a pain in the but to drive two classes in a night. The novice gets no pay to take the green.I thought to just have my son drive but it would be expensive, I would be dumb not to race in the sportsman class and get money to take the green. Now I have to buy two DIRT licenses, A full containment sea. And a Hans devise. I think that will cost close two grand that was not in the budget. Another thing that really ***** me off was when the Patriot sprint tour came to CMP the pit fee went up but my pay did not. Why the F**& do I have to pay for the Patriot sprint purse???

You don't. Just stay home on those nights. Sorry if you think that's harsh but the back gate pays the purse.
Has for awhile now. Headliners keep the doors open not the support classes. Sorry again Orange but that's the reality.
Take the night off, come in the front gate, support your track and enjoy the evening spectating. A win/win.
I can understand not wanting to have to buy the dirt license but the safety equipment is another matter. You are right about the high cost but if you or your son gets in a bad wreck the cost could be way higher. Our full containment seat and Hans saved our driver's neck when she hit the wall a couple of times.(we also put in the extra roll cage bars)
Maybe you could do a fund raiser or court more sponsors. I do understand the cost burden tho as we had to anti up too.
Hope it works out!
Dave
You are all correct. I am crying like a Baby. The problem is I have this terrible addiction to driving a race car. The other problem is I just put two kids in college and next year I will have three. I am trying to keep this going but I keep telling myself to pull the plug.
I hear ya. One thing we did was realize that there are not many big sponsors out there so we asked friends, relatives, co-workers ect. if they would be $50 dollar sponsors to have their names on our car and we got quiet a few. (cost about $6 to have the names made up) Made enough to pay the pit passes for each year as most keep coming back. Every little bit helps.
Give it a try--good luck
Dave
Thanks old man. That is a great idea. KT, did you have a hard time walking away from racing? How long was it till you could got to a modified race and watch from the stands, let alone go in the pits, hell that would be like an alcoholic going on a tour of a Brewery. I have done it twice and it sucks every time. I got the car all washed up to take pictures to sell it, and just driving it around the yard got to me. I put it back in the garage and it is not for sale. Yes, I am crying like like a little B#@ch.

The struggle is real....I was in and out of racing multiple times in my career, always based on finances. The last time in 2009 and I didn't go to the track more than 3 times/year for the next four years after that.....Finally got over feeling bad about not having a car out there. Now I am enjoying myself at the track whether it's as a fan or helping someone else out...The track is where most of my friends are....
I hope you continue Doug, sorry to single you out, just get tired of all the negativity..................kt
KT, yes the negativity is out of hand. I think someday we might not be bitching about racing because it will be no more. If you see the trends today the future does not look so good. On the other hand and I will change the subject, it is great to hear from someone like yourself who knows what they are talking about. I really enjoyed your opinions of all the races you go to. Have a great weekend. Doug
