As more businesses reopen an...At this time our region of New York state is approaching stage 4 of the covid-19 reopening program. As more businesses reopen and people get back to somewhat of a normalcy,we had hopes that because we were listed in the stage 4 reopening that we would be able to have fans. It appears the governor does not see it that way and it will be on a per industry basis which we have been notified that there would be no lift on the fans for auto racing until at least July 21st.
At the point we get to the 21st, it is unclear of how many fans that we will be allowed to have inside the facility. New York state is not good at giving any directives before the actual time frame comes so you cannot plan anything. So at this time we sit and wait as our fate is in the hands of the state.
One thing I am a firm believer in though is this is a fan driven sport. As a driver, who would really want to win a race in front of an empty grandstand....it's not as rewarding as it is when your friends , your family, and your fans are there to see it. It's the fan dollars that enable us to keep the facility operating and pay the purses to the drivers. Trying to run races without fans and jacking up the back gate to compensate is really not doing any justice for the racers who have already spent tens of thousands of dollars on an operation to be there and have some fun anyway. Live streaming of races is a good alternative once in awhile but it's not a viable substitute for actually being at a race track seeing cars go around live, smelling the racing gas, and getting a little dust on your face. That being said we are going to wait, and stick this out, until we can have fans..... not some of the fans....all of the fans without restriction!!!! Not to worry, the raciest surface in WNY (that was reclayed in the fall) will be there when this is over..
