Former 1039 WDKX Wake Up Club host and Section 5 basketball announcer, the voice of Watkins Glen for years, travelling NASCAR announcer, and my past partner and mentor in the "nut hut" at Dundee, and microphone master extraordinaire, Mike Paz, is in ICU after suffering a heart attack during a routine gall bladder surgery.
Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts...

Racing Discussion / Skyline Raceway Announces 2020 Plans

 Skyline will start the season in May. Skyline will predominantly run on Saturdays. The classes will be 602 Sportsman, IMCA Modified, 600 Modified, Pure Stocks, and two classes of 4 Cylinders (stock Fwd and a open Rwd) and maybe a special class now and then. Skyline will run our usual two day show on Memorial Day weekend, there will be a truck and tractor pull and a garden tractor pull, there will be no racing on the Whitney Point fair weekend. A couple of mid week shows will be tossed in. Our season will conclude with the Turbo Blue Finale. American Racer will be the predominant tire. At this point Skyline is looking for class sponsors, if interested please contact us at the track office 657 8222.

One week from today Frank and Audrey Payne and family will swing open the gates on their 2019 season at Skyline Raceway. The first event on the schedule is slated for Sunday, May 26th with the running of the GRIT "Red-White & 602 Crate Sportsman Series Race" This is the first race of 5 being held exclusively at Skyline Raceway. Each of the 5 races for the 602 Crates will pay $1000.00 to win with $1000.00 paid to the 5 race point champion. Also on the card will be the Exciting IMCA Modifieds. The IMCA Modifieds are a Nationally sanctioned class rewarding it's drivers with Track, State, Regional and National points. The 600 Modifieds will be making their debut on Sunday as these are all new to the raceway. They will be racing for $250 to win for each of the five scheduled races. With a point fund for this class is being formed as 1st spot will pay $500 as an individual has made this wonderful donation by sponsoring this class of racecars and at this time it will payback at least five positions. Rounding out the event for Sunday May 26th will be the 4 Cylinder Stocks, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks.

Jack Naum, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday April 13, 2018.
Jack retired from Carrier Corporation after forty-two years and continued to work with them after retirement for several years thru a BOCES program training crane maintenance due to his vast knowledge and experience.
Jack, a lifelong resident of Syracuse and Liverpool, was well known as "Gentleman Jack", enjoyed an extensive racing career and was high point man on several of the dirt tracks in the local area. His racing career encompassed Brewerton, Weedsport and Rolling Wheels.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Leona Naum, stepfather James Koke, brothers Lewis and Peter and sisters Ann Chapman and Vanny Paoletti.
Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Shirley Caruth, daughters Jacquelyn Parton, Susan Naum-Bedigian (James) and Kassi Mercy (Mark), four grandchildren, Richard Parton, Shannon Sanderson, Jack Mercy and Madeliene Mercy, four great-grandchildren Jocelyn Sanderson, Ryan Parton, Kylie Parton and MacKenna Parton, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 pm Wednesday April 18, 2018 at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool. A Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday April 19 at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory may be made to your favorite charity.
