starting problems on my dirt sportsman
« on: February 25, 2010, 06:02:53 PM »
went to go crank it over the other day and had some problems. there was a grinding noise i assume is metal on metal comming from the bell housing.  took the starter off and the tranny out and everything seems to be in working order in the bell housing.  i have 12.6 volts at the battery.  and it turned over just last week.  any ideas on what it might be?

assuming the motor rotates by hand, there is a spring behind the idler gear in the bell, there are 2 types of spring (old (which gets weak and causes the gears to grind/not engage) and new) replace the spring but be sure to get the new PN/ BER308 and make sure its all shimmed correctly. http://shop.a1racing.com/dirtmodified_1.aspx
