The Tech Barn / Pinto spindles...
« on: 01 Aug, 2017 07:25 »
Working on Dale Campfield's old Modified and would like to use Pinto spindles. The question I have is the car is rear steer, so will it make a difference switching sides on the spindles? They shouldn't know what side they are on.

The Tech Barn / 454 Chevy Bellhousing Question
« on: 22 Nov, 2013 13:49 »
How many 454 bellhousing configurations were there? Did the 454 come with only the larger diameter flywheel (168 tooth)? And if I remember correctly, the 454 is externally balanced? Thanks!

I'm trying to decide on a set of pulleys for my vintage Mod and was wondering if I wanted to try a set with a 20% reduction. What advantages would I get, other than slowing down the pump, which increases horsepower, so they say. My preference is to make sure it runs cool, as opposed to gaining a few h.p. Should I just run the standard 1:1 pulleys? The underdrive set seems to be cheaper from Speedway Motors. I should add that the engine is a stock build reman. 350. Thanks!

My vintage modified has what appears to be a shortened 3 spd with an internal clutch put in that is activated with a hydraulic hand lever that feeds a line down to the back of the transmission, where something that resembles a solenoid is, on the rear cover. Any one familiar with these? I would really like some input before I go tearing into it. I see no place to bleed anywhere. I can take photos. Thanks in advance.

Racing Discussion / Look what New Egypt is paying in 2013
« on: 09 Dec, 2012 18:03 »
New Egypt, NJ (November 29, 2012) – New Egypt Speedway announced today that qualifying Heat Races will now pay substantial dollars to win in all four of the track’s primary divisions for the 2013 season. In addition to the winning purse, The Modifieds, Sportsman, FASTRAK Crate Sportsman and the Street Stocks will also be vying for championship points in their respective qualifying events. These changes are geared towards making the Heat Races more exciting and competitive for the fans.
Beginning on opening night, Saturday April 13, 2013, Modified heat race winners will receive $500, Sportsman heat race winners will receive $200, and FASTRAK Crate Sportsman and Street Stock heat race winners will receive $100 each. In addition, all Heat Race winners in all divisions will receive an additional three championship points and second place finishers will receive one additional championship point. These additional points could play a very important part of the final championship standings, and should provide fans with nail-biting, side-by-side action with points up for grabs each week.

Racing Discussion / The Things You See At The Races...

End of the season and was hoping this might carry us through for a while. Not a thread for bashing anyone personally, so keep names out please.

Went to Utica-Rome tonight for their Labor Day show with the ESS. As we know, Dean Reynolds threw out the shirts and frisbees as he always does. I always swore that if I caught one of the shirts or frisbees, I'd give it to whatever young kid might be sitting around me that looked like he/she would appreciate it. Two rows in front of me sat a young boy around the age of 5-7. Been sitting there watching the races and not messing around so I thought to myself... Perfect! If I catch one, this kid is getting it! The boy was there with his father, and with about 2 empty seats to the boys right, sat an older couple, well into their 50's, if not their 60's. Sure enough, a frisbee was coming our way, but was headed right for the kid (Dean is good at that). Doesn't the older gentleman, clearly not there with the boy and his father, almost takes out everyone in a 10 foot radius, to snatch that frisbee. Then the old fart waves it around like he'd won the lottery. It reminded me of the incident recently with the young boy at the ball game that had the guy sitting next to him taunt him with the ball that he had caught.

Danica did pretty good for a driver with no talent. Will all the people screaming about how boring Bristol was with multi-groove racing be the ones bitchin about what a crashfest it is now? I'm not a Jeff Hammond fan, but he hit the nail on the head... "They either want the racin' or the wreckin" ...or something like that.

Kreig, You put on one hell of a drive to win the SBS Championship at Oswego. Great job!
