BLACK ROCK TO HOST 1ST EVER FASTRAK RACE DURING NASCAR’S WATKINS GLEN WEEKEND; $3000 TO-WIN “EMPIRE STATE CLASSIC” TO BE RICHEST CRATE LM RACE EVER IN NY
By Mike Leone

January 27, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…Just days after releasing plans for the inaugural, money-laden “Super Nationals I & II” at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, FASTRAK Northeast Officials are thrilled to confirm another marquee event on the 2012 Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance Touring Series. Black Rock Speedway will hold the “Empire State Classic” presented by NAPA of Watkins Glen and Doug Gross Construction on Saturday, August 11.

FASTRAK’s first ever visit to the Dundee, New York facility, which is located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Wine Country, will be one of the season’s biggest events paying $3,000 to-win! It’ll also mark the biggest Crate Late Model race in the history of New York! In addition, the top 10 Northeast Touring Series teams in points that attend the event will receive an additional $150 travel money!

The event will be run in conjunction with the NASCAR at The Glen Weekend, which features the Nationwide Series Saturday afternoon and the Sprint Cup Series on Sunday afternoon. Watkins Glen International is located just 12 miles south of Black Rock Speedway! Black Rock will also host a “360” Sprint Car event at the speedway on Friday night- their normal night of competition. In the past, several NASCAR drivers have participated on Friday night and the goal is for that to happen again on Saturday night.

“We’re really looking forward to this event,” expressed sixth year FASTRAK Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “We’ve had conversations in the past with Black Rock’s Dean Hoag and he’s even come to FASTRAK meetings in the past. He’s been very supportive of the FASTRAK program and we were thrilled when he called to inquire about hosting FASTRAK during this great weekend! This is a great opportunity for our racers to not only race in front of new audience, but what should be a large crowd! Who knows, maybe we’ll even have a NASCAR driver compete in one of our races for the first time!”

“I’m hoping to be able to put some packages together for the weekend,” explained sixth year FASTRAK Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “I think some of our teams, fans, and officials will enjoy making it a weekend. Several teams took in Niagara Falls when we visited Humberstone, Canada last year and I’m sure will do the same when we return this year.”

FASTRAK continues to grow throughout the New York Region as more and more New York racers make the move. Last year, Humberstone Speedway, which located less than 20 miles across the border, added FASTRAK as a weekly division and this year has brought Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park into the mix. Several other speedways throughout New York and Canada also campaign Crate Late Models.

One driver anxious to take part in the event is Wayne Robertson. The Corning, New York racer, who made trips all over the FASTRAK Northeast Region in 2011, will be happy to go 15 miles up the road to this one at his “home track”. Robertson won his first career Northeast Touring Series event during the “Fall Classic” in September at McKean County Raceway and also added Weekly Series victories at Eriez Speedway and Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway.

Robertson’s good friend and fellow BRP Can-Am Super Stock graduate, Bryce Davis of Canisteo, New York, made the move to FASTRAK in October last season. Davis purchased a former Damian Bidwell car and finished second behind Robertson in his first ever Late Model race at Pittsburgh.

“Black Rock is real excited to be able to host a FASTRAK event,” stated track owner Dean Hoag. “I’ve already received a call of support for the Series Race from one of the premier drivers who will be racing at Watkins Glen. Also, local racing champion, Larry Knowles, owner of race sponsor Doug Gross Construction, is planning on competing in his newly acquired Crate Late Model!”

The event will mark just the second ever FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series event held in the state of New York. The only other event was on August 21, 2010 when Steve Dixon out-dueled Max Blair for his first career FASTRAK Tour win on a night with an 80% chance of rain. The only other FASTRAK events ever sanctioned in the Empire State were Weekly Series events over the past five years at Arcade Raceway. A Northeast Touring Series event was scheduled at Arcade back in the inaugural 2007 season, but that event was cancelled due to severe thunderstorms and tornados throughout the area.

The complete 2012 Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Series schedule will be released this Sunday, January 29 at the 2011 Awards Banquet & Dinner at Hard Rock Café Pittsburgh. The schedule, which boasts a record 25 events, will be available to the public early next week.

2012 FASTRAK Northeast marketing partners include Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance, Hoosier Tires, Utsinger’s Towing, Original Pizza Logs, Beyea Custom Headers, Genesis Shocks, Hyperco, and H&H Racing Equipment.

Black Rock Speedway is a 4/10-mile semi-banked clay off located just off Route 14A at 82 Main Street, Dundee, NY 14837. Black Rock offers free overnight camping on site. For more information, call 607-243-8686 or check out their website at www.blackrockspeedway.com.

May 22, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Port Colborne, ON)…After two rainouts at Tyler County Speedway in the first three events, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring headed north of border to Canada's Humberstone Speedway to complete Race #2 of the 23-event slate. The FASTRAK "Canadian National Championship" marked the first ever FASTRAK Touring Series event outside of the USA and just second ever FASTRAK-sanctioned International event as Humberstone completed their first ever show on May 13.

Max Blair will go down in the history books as the winner of the first ever "Canadian National Championship" after capturing the 30-lap $2,000 to-win feature event. Blair came from sixth and passed Josh Double on lap five for the winning move. Blair then rode a consistent line around the bottom of the speedway to become the Northeast Touring Series' all-time feature winner, while his competitors diced it up, swapping positions back and forth at a torrid pace using every inch of the racey 1/3-mile oval.

"I'm ready to come back here again," exclaimed the 21-year-old Centerville, Pa. winner, who also received a custom, cherry-framed Canadian flag trophy. "I'd love to see another Touring race here. There aren't this many tracks that are this racey. You could race all over. This is so cool to win this race and it means a lot. I have to thank my dad, crew, and sponsors. Without them none of this would be possible."

Fourteen-year-old "Futures Cup" contender Jorden Peters drew the pole position of the event and lined up alongside teenage standout Josh Double. Double used the high line to race to the early lead. Peters brushed the inside jersey barrier in turn four on lap one allowing fourth starting Wayne Robertson and Blair to move by for second and third.

Canada's Darren Peters, who won the opener at Humberstone, was quickly coming to the front. Peters started 11th and passed his son Jorden for fourth on lap three. Blair caught Robertson and the two ran side-by-side for second on lap four with Blair nosing ahead. Blair then immediately ran down Double, who was running the highline and drove under the Ohio racer on lap five.

Double fought hard and pulled even with Blair on lap six, but Blair was able to find bite off the bottom to maintain the lead. Darren Peters used the inside to race past Robertson for third on lap six, while ninth starting Steve Dixon went up top to take fourth from Robertson on lap eight. Dixon continued his way to the front taking third from Peters on lap nine before the event's only caution when 14-year-old West Virginia "Futures Cup" racer, Ryan Montgomery, lost the handle and spun.

When green replaced yellow the action really began to heat up, Robertson regained his composure taking back forth from Peters then nipped Dixon for third at the start-finish line of lap 11. It was three-wide for second on lap 12 with Robertson getting by Dixon and Double. Double found the perfect outside line to race back ahead of Robertson on lap 13 and then Dixon dropped Robertson back to fourth on lap 17.

While the three-car race continued for second, Mike Pegher, Jr. and Peters were having quite the duel for fifth swapping that position back and forth. Dixon put quite the slider on Double in turn four for second on lap 22. Meanwhile, back up front Blair had to deal with lapped traffic on lap 24 and made a great inside move to slip past four lapped cars. At the same time it was three-wide for second with Double and Robertson nosing back ahead.

The unbelievable side-by-side racing wouldn't end as on lap 28 the trio again three-wide this time with Robertson taking second and Dixon third. On lap 29, Dixon overtook Robertson for good, but up front Blair was simply too much as he captured his all-time leading 10th career Northeast Touring Series win in his Specialty Products/Westcoat Excavating-sponsored #111. The defending two-time Series champion also took over the point lead.

Dixon held on for second place, which was worth $1,000. Robertson, who won a BRP Can-Am 360 Late Model race at Humberstone last season, was a close third over a strong run by Double. Peters claimed fifth.

Canadian Luke Carelton had an impressive run in his first ever Touring Series event coming from 14th to finish sixth. Pegher, who won the Touring Series opener at Roaring Knob, was a disappointing seventh. Ed Carley came from 13th to finish eighth driving the Ron Baker #74. Butch Lambert was ninth ahead of Joe Martin, who has three Weekly Series wins this season at Sharon Speedway. New York's Jamie Brown was the last car on the lead lap and won the Utsinger's Towing Hoosier Tire giveaway.

Original Pizza Logs sponsored the travel package that awarded $150 to the top FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series teams. Original Pizza Logs also presented the Contingency Connection program, which awards two $1,000 certificate packages. On Sunday evening, Dixon and Montgomery were the two recipients.

Double and Dixon won the two non-stop heat races. Only one caution slowed the FASTRAK action all night long as the drivers put on an excellent show for the fans as part of the track's Victoria Day celebration. Sixteen drivers from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Canada made the tow for the inaugural event in threatening weather. After some showers throughout the morning and early afternoon, skies cleared and it turned out to be a beautiful late afternoon and evening in eastern Ontario. Despite the 7:15 p.m. start, the FASTRAK feature, which was the second of the program, was over by 9 p.m.

Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series Race #2: 1. MAX BLAIR (111) 2. Steve Dixon (50) 3. Wayne Robertson (20) 4. Josh Double (38) 5. Darren Peters (1P) 6. FASTRAK NORTHEAST TOURING SERIES GOES INTERNATIONAL WITH $2,000 TO-WIN EVENT SUNDAY AT CANADA’S HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY

By Mike Leone

May 18, 2011                         FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Port Colborne, ON)…After another rainout at Tyler County Speedway last Saturday, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is set to head north to unchartered territory on Sunday.  Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada will host the first ever FASTRAK Touring event outside of the United States!  FASTRAK will compete with the 358 Modifieds in an event sponsored by Peters Excavating and Brian’s Tire Repair as part of Canada’s Victoria Days celebration.

Humberstone signed on as weekly-sanctioned FASTRAK speedway for the 2011 season and was able to hold the first ever International FASTRAK event last Friday night.  Canada’s own Darren Peters captured the memorable event over New York’s Wayne Robertson and Darren’s 14-year-old son Jorden, who is a “Futures Cup” contender.  Both Peterson and Robertson are two racers who are highly anticipating Sunday’s 30-lap “Canadian National Championship,” which will pay $2,000 to-win!  The winner of the event will also receive a beautiful custom-made cherry-framed Canadian flag trophy presentation!

“We really have to thank promoter Bob Davidson of Humberstone for stepping up to the plate like he did this year,” explained fifth year FASTRAK Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig.  “It’s awesome to be able to promote FASTRAK outside of our borders and expand into Canada.  Davidson is really looking forward to Sunday and to be able to showcase his facility to our FASTRAK competitors.  We’re very excited to be part of this historic event!”

Because passports or enhanced New York drivers license are now required for entry into Canada, FASTRAK announced over the winter that it was putting a together a travel package for its top 15 drivers.  Recently, Niagara Falls, New York-based Original Pizza Logs became the sponsor of this program, which will award $150 to these drivers in addition to their race winnings.

The top 15 drivers from the 2010 points will first be eligible.  If any of these drivers do not attend, the top so many racers from 2011’s points will fill in to account for 15 drivers.  The following drivers will receive the $150 provided they compete on Sunday: Max Blair, Mike Pegher, Jr., Butch Lambert, Josh Holtgraver, Bud Watson, Joe Martin, Dan Angelicchio, Steve Dixon, Bryan Force, Dan Karalagas, Mike Blose, Kyle Zimmerman, Kyle Lukon, Troy Shields, and George Kowatic (due to the passing of fourth place 2010 point man Gary Knollinger).

The next five drivers in line to receive the $150 would be Bobby Cossell IV, Wayne Robertson, Robbie Marhefka, Shane Hitt, and Darren Peters.

Robertson, the 2010 BRP Can-Am 360 Late Model Champion, was at winner at Humberstone last year and would be considered one of the favorites on Sunday.  Another former BRP Can-Am racer, Steve Dixon, has some experience at Humberstone and will certainly be one of the drivers to beat.  Dixon captured two victories close to home in 2010 FASTRAK Northeast Touring action at McKean and Woodhull Raceways.

For the majority of the FASTRAK racers, Sunday’s event will be the first ever time they have competed outside of the USA.  Defending two-time Touring champion Max Blair is one of the few that has as last year he raced with his father in All Star Super Late Model competition in Canada.  There’s a good possibility that Robbie Blair may also be in action.  Several of the western New York FASTRAK racers are also expected to cross the border to compete on Sunday.

The Utsinger’s Towing “Hoosier Tire Giveaway” program will resume Sunday night awarding a new FASTRAK Hoosier tire to the driver running last on the lead lap at the finish.  New Jersey’s Steve Davis took the honors at Roaring Knob.

The Original Pizza Logs Contingency Connection will again award two $1,000 contingency packages to lucky drivers on Sunday.  Winner Mike Pegher, Jr. and last place Ricky Meglaye were the recipients at Roaring Knob.

The “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series is back for its second season and will take place at Humberstone provided there are 30 or more cars.  Kyle Zimmerman took the top honors at Roaring Knob winning the non-qualifiers event, and now has the early point lead.  Justin Kreider is the defending champion.

There have been 55 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 25 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series meaning nearly a new winner nearly every other event. Max Blair and Mike Pegher, Jr. are tied with nine wins a piece followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and David Scott with four, Alan Dellinger & Steve Dixon with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Mike Blose, Josh Holtgraver, Robbie Blair, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Joe Martin, Dusty Hamrick, and Bud Watson with one victory.
