I don't know but I have been told that the crates on dirt are anything but the 604 that they were when they were originally built. If that is true then the cost savings are out the door. So why use them?

Dirt uses the 602, not the 604.  The 604 should win races if geared correctly.

How is the "crate" motor going to be teched weekly? There is a bunch of people that can make new seals. With that being said, anyone can open there motor during the week, cam it, or whatever, and have there "buddy" re-seal it? If crates are the solve all solution add a claimer to them or something to attempt to keep guys honest. Personally I dont like the crate motor but thats just my opinion.

The easiest solution to people tampering with seals, changing parts, anything bogus, is to fine them and confiscate the motor or offending parts. Either that or a replacement claimer (claimer that is the cost of a new crate) I guarantee that will dissuade anybody. If policed correctly it is the best option as far as motors go.  A crate costs the same as the rebuild cost on a high dollar motor.  A 602s MSRP is around 4k A 604s MSRP is $6500 The rebuild on an open motor (Done correctly) is about that. Its easy to spend anywhere from 10-15k on an open motor, an open motor is way easier to cheat BTW.

I am surprised that the crate is what people are concerned with ove the TIRE issues this year, Softening etc. There were cars at The Oswego ROC this year that had fresh brush strokes on new tires on the rack of the trailers.
