"Meet the new Boss, same as the old Boss" -- Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who
Well, guess what? I was fooled again and I'm not very pleased about it.
The 2020 Evergreen season started with a new Race Director and I was hopeful. The first racing event with tour-type modifieds was a significant improvement over previous seasons. (I ate crow when the show actually started on time.) Sunday, I was back at Evergreen for my second visit and I'm here to tell you that the old Evergreen has returned. What a shame.
If, as advertised, the track management convenes a meeting to discuss everything awful that took place, I hope the following points of discussion are raised:
1) How many times did the announcer tell me (and everyone else) that Evergreen had time limits for each feature? Often. Very often. How many times did Evergreen ignore said time limits? Three times. The first 25 lap modified feature took 45 (!) minutes. The second 25 lap feature probably took longer given the antics of one driver (more on that later). The street stock 30 lap feature was checkered after 40+ minutes (instead of 30 minutes) and only 19 laps (of 30 scheduled) completed. If you have time limits for each feature, then enforce them. Otherwise, get rid of them. If you change the rules during the race, some fans will wonder why. Favoritism maybe?
2) Speaking of the antics of one unhappy modified driver, you don't tow him into the pits and then let him come back onto the track later on! Are you kidding me? His temper tantrum caused a huge delay and you let him back on the track to race? I would have towed him into the infield and kept him on the hook for the duration of the race. Andrew Harpell would have towed his ***** out into the spectator parking lot! If you let the patients run the asylum, this is sort of unwanted drama you'll get. And I'm sick of track management apologies.
3) Modified handicapping system? Do you have one or do you just put Matt Hirschman as close to the rear as possible? My point is that if you have a system, please tell us what it is. Otherwise, it would appear that you're hiding something or favoring certain individuals.
4) Other stuff includes starting late (even though practice ended at 1:45) and a far too long intermission. I guess old habits are hard to break.
