Racing Discussion / Layin the clay on the Steel Palace!
« on: September 17, 2019, 06:54:00 AM »
Every year at this time, I get very excited. I know the asphalt guys hate it, but I cannot tell you how much better the racing is at Oswego.

This year bodes to be the best so far (weather permitting, of course) with teams attempting qualification for the first time since the move from the Fairgrounds. Between DIRTcar Northeast (WRG), the church, and the Torrese Family, they are really putting their best foot forward with additional camping, better roadways through the camping areas, better functioning pit area - just overall improving everything for everyone.

I respect the history of Oswego, and I respect that some people will never approve of having Super DIRT Week there, but as a fan, I say THANK YOU for allowing us to continue our traditions at your historic facility!

It may have been postponed in April but is is now  going to be bigger and better!   Land of Legends Raceway will be having the first race in many years on Wednesday July 24th during the week of the Ontario County Fair! Sportsman will be racing for $1,500 to win, $100 to start and a whole bunch of contingency prizes! Purse money set aside, there is some major ‘loot’ being given away just by entering the Cabin Fever 40 event on Wednesday. One lucky driver will take home a Donath Motor Worx crate engine package during intermission!

The event pays $1,500 to win courtesy of a bonus from Proctor Enterprises. Giveaways include a pressure washer, product gift certificates, exhaust work, randomized finishing cash bonuses, lap money for all laps that were sponsored at $20 each, Product 9 limiter, jackets...the list goes on! And it just keeps getting better! Heat winners will do battle in the Jerry Haers Memorial Dash For Cash, and a very special thanks goes out to the Haers Family!

1. $150
2. $100
3. $75
4. $50
5. $25

What could possibly be better than heading out to the fair for the car races! Carnival foods and fast cars!  It’s $10 per car for parking ($5 single occupant) & $8 at the grandstand gate. Pit passes are available at the pit shack only! If you are unable to make it, Paul Cole and Dirt Track Digest TV are offering FREE PPV coverage on www.dirttrackdigest.tv! (But you won't have kettle corn at home!) Come out, bring a friend or two, and enjoy the show!

last evening.

Many of you may know him as the father of Justin Haers, and owner of Phelps Cement Products. He is also the father of Gerald "Bear" Haers, Jr, and Jillian Haers Coffey.

Gerald owned and sponsored a lot of race cars in his 60+ years in racing. The family is looking for any photos from his many years - either of cars he owned or sponsored. Drivers with the last name of Hoffman, Brightbill, Johnson x 2 come immediately to mind, but there's definitely more. If any of you have some in your possession, or know where I can find some, please let me know. He loved this sport of racing. Didn't discriminate between dirt or asphalt, and he will truly be missed.

I hate to admit it, but seeing all these events scheduled around "Super" DIRT Week just takes the thrill out of it, honestly....

Labor Day Weekend normally sees the beginning of the end for racing in Upstate New York. Not this year. Not at LoLR. Check out what Paul Cole and his crew have been up to:

"360 SPRINT CAR NEW YORK NATIONALS at the Land of Legends Raceway September 6/7 2019!

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the 2019 New York Nationals for September 6-7, 2019. Bringing back the tradition to New York of a huge year end show that will pit the best Sprint Car drivers in the North East chasing a huge payday on a track they love to visit.

On September 6th we will highlight Triple 15 races ($650 to win and $125 to start) for the 360’s that will qualify 6 drivers into the A main on September 7th.
In addition to the 360’s on Friday night, we will also be contesting Round 4 of the Land of Legends 305 CRSA Crown Series along with a 75 lap Street Stock Feature.

This weekend, on the big stage, the "working man's" classes race at Charlotte.

Considered the precursor to the World Finals (which features super late models, 410 sprint cars, and the mighty Big Block Modifieds), this event gives the spotlight to - for our region - the UMP/IMCA-style modified and the 602 Crate Sportsman division.

The event takes place October 25-27, with DIRTvision offering video coverage of Friday and Saturday for a combined price of $24.99.

Make sure to support you local guys! (It's also an inexpensive way to make sure the video quality is what you expect for the World Finals next week!)

Racing Discussion / Absolutely incredible Super DIRT Week!
« on: October 08, 2018, 01:41:10 PM »
Despite days of rain and gloom, and from hot to cold and back again, it was an absolutely incredible couple of days of racing.

Concerns over the track not holding up were unfounded, and whoever made the decision to keep cars and people off the surface until it had a chance to settle deserves a raise. The track was mint. The pits were so packed, the pro stocks were pitted on hills, stackers pitted on Albany Street, and anywhere they could find space.

The camping areas have had improved roads, and will continue to upgrade. WRG Head Ninja In Charge, Brian Carter, announced a new 2 year deal with Oswego Speedway to continue to host Super DIRT Week, and the buzz was talk of even more improvements - perhaps moving the tech area to Albany Street to allow for more pit parking. Adjusting camping areas and building more solid roads and expanded camping areas. A lot of the areas were open because of the weather and wet grounds. More porta johns were added, and look to see a possible restroom facility with showers being built in the green lot.

All in all, it was worth every rain drop, mud pit, sideways trip down to the showers, and every penny we spent this year. Awesome time with awesome people! Looking forward to 2019!
