ATTENTION FANS AND DRIVERS…

The forecast is once again calling for rain on Friday. If that is the case and we are forced to cancel again on Friday, we will run the “Can Opener” on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. We will make a decision on Friday based on the weather. We are putting this out there now to give our fans and teams time to prepare, in the event that it should happen. It should be stressed that we have not yet cancelled Friday’s program. We will wait until then to make the decision.
After such a mild winter and early spring the weather has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks. “The Clash at the Can is coming up in less than two weeks and it is really important that we get in a race or two before that time”, said Promoter Dan Harpell. “I have had drivers reach out to me because they want to get in some track time prior to that race, which is one of our biggest events of the year”, he added. The Clash at the Can is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17th.
In the event that we use the Monday rain date, the entire “Can Opener” would be run on that night. The Modifieds will compete in a 40 lapper, paying $1,500 to win. They would be joined by the 602 Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks, Four Cylinders, Factory Stocks and the new Crate Late Model division. Race time would be 7:00 p.m. and we would push the show through to get everyone out at a decent hour. Generally on a regular Friday night we start at 7:30 p.m and are done around 10:30 p.m.  Starting a half hour early will only help to get everyone home early.
This would be the first point race of the year for all divisions and because it is the first race of the year lineups will be set by draw/redraw for all divisions. The show is open to teams from all tracks. It will also be an opportunity to get in a race towards eligibility for the “Spectacular” in September. The $3,000 to win race for Modifieds requires drivers to compete at the track at least four times during the season to be eligible.
Check back with us on Friday for updates. Penn Can Speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. For further details call the speedway office at 570-853-3434, log onto penncan.com or look us up on Facebook.
