My pool of tracks that I'll be able to run this year shrinks... lol
Daryl, Kimmie's info was incorrect, these extra bars are NOT mandatory at Black Rock in 2015 per Mike Jackson at the rules meeting.  Come on down to Dundee and have some fun whenever you're able to.

Marge and i will be rooting for ya Greg...good luck this year!
Thanks Bob!  We'll do our best, but being a rookie running a small block against the toughest big block field around, I'll be happy to make the show for now.

My modified (same car & body as last year) ready to go for Canandaigua once the weather decides to cooperate.  I have my fingers crossed for this Saturday!

John, it depends on the tire you run.  I know with the Hoosier sportsman tires (90" RR), we ran around 5.08 when the track was hard and rolled easy, and around 5.24 if the track was heavy and we needed some extra pull to keep the rpm's up in the corners.  I'm guessing you're going to run American Racers, which are 1-2" bigger, so you will want to add 10-15 points to those numbers if that's the case.  Remember Canandaigua is all about momentum, so run as little gear as you can get away with while carrying speed in the corners and staying off the chip.  Most of all, good luck and have fun!

I had a great vantage point for the incident as I was standing in the backstretch "terrace" grandstand past the pit exit, and I can tell you for sure that the right front came off the car at the end of the backstretch and went straight off turn three.  My guess is that it bounced over the concrete barriers stacked along the edge of the creek.  I would look in that area first.  Given where the wheel let loose, George is lucky he didn't go for a nasty tumble down over the bank, and he did a masterful job of keeping it to one lazy roll.  That could have been much, much worse.

I have had a few people ask for clarification on the fuel rule for the Crate Sportsmen division.

-Pump gas is an option, not manditory.  Any octane racing gas or pump gas with no additives is allowed.

If there are any other questions regarding rules for any division except the BB/SB Modifieds, contact Black Rock head tech inspector Mark Wallenbeck, whose contact info is on the contacts page of the Black Rock website.  For modified questions, see me.  Thanks.

Black Rock Speedway
Dutch Hoag’s National Open Weekend
Big Block / Small Block Modified Rules for 10/22/11

This race is open competition, but not a “run-what-ya-brung” race.

-Conventional center-steer, Northeastern-style dirt modifieds only; no special cars.
-Body must be DIRT legal, except sail panels allowed, 65” max. height from ground.
-Any brand, any compound tire, right rear maximum 92”x13”.
-Maximum one 4 bbl or 2 bbl carburetor only, no multiple carbs, fuel injection, turbo or supercharger.
-Cast iron engine block only, must be V8.
-Cast iron, steel or aluminum heads.
-No SB2 or similar NASCAR-type specialty heads.
-Racing or pump gasoline only.
-362 to 467 cubic inches (big blocks & big small blocks) - 2500 tsp
-361 cubic inches and less - 2400 tsp
   tsp = track scale pounds

See me with questions regarding rules.  We have done our best to put together a package that will allow the greatest number of cars to be legal as well as competitive.  Last year, this race had a good mix of big and small blocks, and neither seemed to have an advantage over the other.  If you would like to run something, but you are unsure if it will be legal, please call ahead of time and check.  Thank you for racing at Black Rock Speedway.

What are the rules for the mods?
I will have Mod rules out later this week, hopefully tomorrow.  Check blackrockspeedway.com as well as here.

Thanks,

Bob, you may know better having done all the photoshop tricks, but that yellow car looks like an 18 to me, which would probably be the "Bad Banana" Rick Hoctor.  I remember him having the white wheels for a while, and also making the weekend trips down from the Ransomville area to run Canandaigua and Weedsport.  Just a guess.

So the "Senior Discount" tonight is 100%.  Very cool way to honor our seniors, and it looks like it's going to turn out to be a nice night as well.  I'm looking forward to the vintage cars and the return of the late models after a week out on tour.  See everyone there!

I'll be there, too!  And to heck with Tony in the F-1 car, I'm looking forward to seeing Hamilton try to set a new lap record for the long course.  Anyway, it's going to be a very cool event and a big "Thank You" goes out to Watkins Glen International and Mobil 1 for making it free and open to the public.
