The Tech Barn / How to pick asphalt Hoosier tire
« on: March 19, 2017, 09:24:47 AM »
We are using a Hoosier track tire on a 1/3 asphalt oval in the Modified class. We can buy two tires each race. How do I find the tires that will give me the stagger I want????? I have seen other teams tape the outside edge of the tire, others tape the middle, other look at the chalk numbers, I see other teams start a race with sticker tires, I am totally lost... is it science or dumb luck?

Thanks

I have been using a stagger tape for years, and now as I get older and slower... I was wondering if anyone uses a stagger gauge and what are the pros and cons and or the one that works the best. We run an asphalt modified.

Thanks
Mike

Bassman The driver said it was great and predictable, we left it in the trailer bought two new right side tires as that is the tire rule matched the stagger to what it was and the car was junk. The car was great on Wednesday and was terrible on Saturday. The staggered springs and third link are the only difference between our car and the others. We have to try something different to be better than the other guy. If we get it to work with the spring behind then we may have something they don't.

Well that didn't work. The car had no bite off the corners it was so good wed. and then out to lunch on sat.  we didn't even unload from the trailer ! We have decided to move the spring behind the axle and see what happens. Any advice on angles and should we change spring rates? We were running a 250 left and 200 right

We practiced today with the only changes we did was to the third link we have the decel bar at 4 degrees up and acel bar at 13 degrees down and in the heat of teh day and very old tires the car was very predictable and my driver said it was teh best it had ever been. So we are throwing on 2 new tires and 2 one race old tires and race ! I feel a lot better about it now. Thanks for your help !!

Is anyone running staggered springs? We have a raceworks chassis and cannot get it to hook up coming off the turns we are also using this

I am not sure if the staggered springs would limit how the accel decel bar works?

Thanks

in our haste to get to the track I forgot to set the swaybar. There is no level area to set it. How do I make it work? I wanted to have it neutral for the start of practice and now I don't know where it will be.

We are racing at Star Speedway the SBM 125 sat and we have to get tires. Is there any rule of thumb with the chalk mark for tires? I know thay are put on so you can duplicate the tires but anyone have any advice?
