SUPER MATT SHEPPARD AND GLEN WHRITENOUR BOUNTY MONEY CONTINUES AT OUTLAW SPEEDWAY

(Dundee, NY) For the second consecutive week Matt Sheppard fell prey to mechanical woes and did not finish the 30-lap feature at Outlaw Speedway. After a suspension issue just past the half way mark on July 17 which sidelined the potent 9s machine and a flat right rear tire while leading with just a couple laps remaining on July 24 relegating Sheppard to another DNF the $1,500 Bounty money that track owner, Tyler Siri put up will roll over to Friday, July 31, 2020. The Hurricane Steve Paine was able to take advantage of Sheppard’s misfortune and visited victory lane for the first time with his win on July 17.
The original number posted by Siri for the July 17 event was $1,000 for any track regular or invader that could take down the defending Outlaw Speedway Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram Track Champion. Leading up to that night, Sheppard had been tearing Outlaw Speedway apart winning four feature events in a row after finishing second on opening night to AJ Slideways, Alan Johnson. Over the past three seasons either driving the Vic Coffey owned Sweetners Plus sponsored machine or his own equipment, Super Matt Sheppard made the Outlaw Speedway his personal sand box!
With Super Matt succumbing to the previously mentioned mechanical problems the money was then rolled over to the July 24 event. During that time Siri then kicked in another $400 with an additional $100 coming from We the Fans Racing Group bringing the new bounty total to $1,500. Sheppard was clearly on his way to win number five on the season having a six second lead on the field when a late race caution slowed the pace and while under caution Sheppard had to make a beeline to the hot pit area to change a soft right rear tire thus handing the lead and ultimately the win the Alan Johnson. When Sheppard returned to the speedway, he pulled into the infield with another mechanical problem thus ending his night.
In both cases Super Matt was not running on the lead lap at the end of the thirty-lap feature thus the bounty was off in both cases.
With that the $1,500 will roll over again until someone knocks off the two-time track title holder.
In the Stan’s No Tubes Street Stock Division, two-time Track Champion in the class, Glen Whritenour has mirrored Sheppard’s performance literally dominating the field. Siri posted an additional $250 to any driver, either a track regular or outsider that can take down the potent 15 machine. This got the attention of 2019 Track Champ, Dylan Cecce who came out of semi-retirement to pilot a Jared Hill back-up machine.
Whritenour was successful in claiming the feature win, his fourth of the season on Friday, July 24 and like the Bounty on Matt Sheppard, the Glen Whritenour Bounty money rolls over to July 31.
In both cases the drivers must be on the lead lap and running at the end of their respective feature events for the money to be claimed by the feature winner.
According to Siri, “This adds an incentive for any driver that can beat these guys. They both are top notch drivers in their respective classes and dominate the action. With not having spectators in the grandstands we are trying to spice things up for not only the teams observing in the pit area but also those viewing on Dirt Track Digest.TV. At the same time perhaps, we can entice a few outsiders to come in and grab the bounty cash.”
Last week, Lightning Larry Wight made the trip to the Yates County Oval from Syracuse, NY to take a shot at the added cash incentive to defeat Sheppard. Having started deep in the twenty-five-car feature line-up, Wight was mowing the field down and wound up third at the finish behind AJ Slideways and second place finisher, Brady Fultz.
As of this writing it is not known if Wight will return to Outlaw Speedway for the July 31 event or if any additional invaders have confirmed their appearance. Same holds true of any extra money from either the track or any outside entity getting tossed into the Bounty kitty for either Sheppard or Whritenour.
Currently the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram Modified thirty-lap feature winner collects $2,000 and the Stan’s No Tubes Street Stock 20 lap feature winner knocks down $500 not including any Bounty cash.
