The 55 was driven by both Ed Anchor and Gordie Treichler. Don't know which one is in this shot, but I don't recall really seeing Anchors name in Fulton Raceway results.
My guess wold be Gordie in this shot.
That looks like Les Alberti in the 473, and Kerry Schloder (?) in the K-46. The 19 looks like an asphalt car. Seemed like a lot of the Islip & Freeport cars had that look to them.
Someone mentioned Wally Burnett. I believe this is his car coming in on the trailer for the 1972 syracuse race. It's possible that it's from 1975 but I was one of the few guys still piloting a coupe in 75 so I think I would remember that! Of course it's 34+ years ago! Man the girls I like to look at are waaaay younger than that!!!! I guess I am a dirty old man afterall !!!
Here's my ride in 75. Knew better than to try Syracuse in this old buggy during my rookie season!!!
JustMark, You've got it right that was the 1971 National Open at Langhorne, so the drivers you said are correct. Lately I've been scanning a lot of old family photos and some of the older ones from 68 and 69 are on slides while the 70 and 71 pics are prints. I just got that one mixed into my earlier files although it's actually from 71. I also wonder about the Loscher street coach. Also the DIRT style Gremlin street rod that the sign painter named Myers built? Here's another one from 1972 Syracuse....can you name them. Track looks to be getting dusty!
#473: Les Alberti, #19: Eddie Delmolino, #K46: Mike Grbac
The #15 coupe, looks like the one Dick Priest drove at Lancaster, and later sold to George Boss. Didn't know the car ended up on dirt.
Loescher's street coach is still around. After at least 4 owners, and being crashed into a tree, the last I knew Danny Wilmes had it, and changed the body.
Here's another from Syracuse 1972. I shot this long one of Buzzie coming down the home stretch. I think Merv Treichler is chasing him.
No i looked again and it's Kerry Schroeder chasing him!
Isn't the K-46 owned by Earl Schloder, but Kerry was still too young to be the driver? I think Earl had hired racers in the car until Kerry was old enough.
The first I can recall of Kerry, he was in a Gremlin bodies car... I think this is the Valiant.
Frasson, I think you're right about it not being Kerry at this early date. I also seem to remember that Sammy Beavers was a fairly regular driver of the Schroeder car at one time. But I did really love those Valiant bodied Modifieds. Bryan Osgood and Dutch Hoag both had them and here's a pic of one of the most famous, Geoff Bodine on the Outside pole on the grid for the 1970 Langhorne event. It looks like his guys are guarding the car the way they are posted on each corner. Photo by me.
And here's one of me in front of Hoag's #7 Valiant in 1970 in the pits after the race concluded. I think Dutch had somone else driving it that year. What a rush for a kid to get to go down after the race and meet his hero's. I think that's one thing that's missing in todays racing.....Everyones in such a hurry that they load up and rush home. I'm not sure most of todys fans realize they used to be able to go into the pits at the checkered flag. At some tracks I could be down at their trailer before the car even made it back from the track!!! Photo by Norm Welty.
Lee Osborne drove the #7 Valiant for Dutch.
Dale,
You may remember that Dutch's Valiant was actually on it's roof in the ditch inside turn 1 early in the 1970 race. Doesn't look too much the worse for wear in the pic though. That car later got sold to Andy Romano, who also won with it. Dutch had Mitch Smith in his coupe at Langhorne in 1970 too.
For the #88 Loescher sedan, I think Lee Osborne drove it one year at Langhorne (1969?). He may have had a guaranteed spot from Williams Grove or Selinsgrove.
I remember Andy's Valiant at U/R way back when. Never knew it was a Hoag machine. The things you learn. Falcon you got a pic?
