Stopped by the Johnson shop today. Andy was very busy getting ready for the C.A.R.S. Trade Show this weekend in Charlotte but took a few minutes to talk to me. IF ANYBODY (poster points finger at Sodus Mike) thinks the Johnson chassis is a bad idea, give Andy a call next week an listen to what he has to say. Not just because he owns Johnson chassis, but because as what has already been posted here.
The stock frames haven't been made in close to 30 years! As anybody knows who builds their own cars... ah.. Sodus Mike.... did you BUILD the car you raced?........ the GOOD frames are gone.
What if you need to "only" clip the front of your wrecked car? If you don't have another frame sitting around, you have to go find another junker to buy. Expensive and time consuming. Ain't no way you're gonna make it to next weeks' race.
Now, for the disclaimer BS because I am sure Sodus Mike will want to chime in on this post. I do not, nor have I ever, worked for Johnson chassis, or bought one of his cars. I do race, but not in Street Stock. I stop by every now and then just to say hello. Andy is a fellow racer that I met about 20 years ago. That is about all the association there is.
I have no real opinion either way on if these are good or bad for our sport. But, coming from someone who has built their own cars for the past 35+ years, the Johnson chassis is worth looking into.
Can't wait to see what S M has to say.
