Five Mile Point Speedway is ready for the 68th consecutive season opener tonight at the historic quarter mile clay oval.  Racing begins at 6:30 p.m.

Windsor and Damascus NY residents are free as part of their community night at the speedway and kids 17 years old and younger are free for Youth Night.

The weekly competition at Five Mile Point Speedway looks to be nothing short of outstanding.  Dozens of teams are returning to the quarter mile oval to be part of the 2018 excitement.  During the first three racing events this season the brand new surface has held up to the tough spring time weather in outstanding fashion.  Three and four wide racing has been the norm with zero tire wear.

The Modified division alone sees no less than seven new teams joining the already impressive weekly field.  The new teams include Brian Malcolm, Barry White, Travis Smith, the return of two-time champion Shaun Walker, Donnie Elliot, Dom Roselli, Joey Colsten and several more.  They will do battle with the weekly stars of Kevin Bates, Tyler Siri, Mike Colsten, Brian Weaver, Mike Butler, Brad Szulewski, Aleia Geisler, Glenn Knapp and P.J. Goodwin.   Tonight's Modified opener is 30 laps paying $1,500 to win.  The speedway also hosts the Sunday Summer Slam program paying a minimum of $2,000 to win for only 30 laps of racing.  The next Summer Slam event is Sunday, June 15th with the running of the Dick Longstreet Memorial.  That race will pay $4,100 to win for only 41 laps.  No speedway in the area has more $2,000 or more to win races than FMP.

The influx of new competitors in the Crate Sportsman division is also large.  Tommy Collins has returned home to Five Mile Point Speedway this season and has gone 2 for 2 in early season events.  Young gun Alex Yankowski started the season off with a couple of out of town wins and looks to make a mark on the division in his rookie campaign.  Weekly the Crate Sportsman division will see a $500 weekly purse increase with it now $100 to take the green for only 20 laps of racing.  Tonarlo's Restaurant is also adding a $100 to the winner each Saturday night making is $600 to the race winner.

Five Mile Point Speedway again raised the bar last year with the biggest Street Stock purse increase in the area in years.  Other tracks of course followed suite shortly after.  Weekly action sees the winner earning $500.  The entire purse is the same as the Fight Night All-Star Series weekly. Another solid field is expected for tonight's opener.

The Factory Stock teams have also received a weekly pay upgrade this season as we enter opening night.  Also on the card will be the Xcel 600 Modifieds and Lighting Cat Experts and Novice.

For more information please phone the speedway offices at 607-775-5555 or log on to www.5milepointspeedway.com  - Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
