FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ALL THREE RACE OF CHAMPIONS DIRT SERIES TITLES UP FOR GRABS THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.

KIRKWOOD, NY…The ultra competitive Race of Champions Dirt Touring Series Championships will be up for grabs in all three classes this Friday and Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway.  The traditional National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will settle the season long RoC point races over the two days of action.

Entering this Saturday’s Southern Tier 100 at the quarter mile oval, Danny Johnson (834) leads the overall Modified standings of Jimmy Phelps (826).  Johnson is a three time winner of the Southern Tier 100 and Phelps is the defending winner of this race.  This year’s edition of the Southern Tier 100 will mark the 43rd year this race has been held.  The Modified race winner will earn a minimum of $5,555 for the victory.

Former Five Mile Point Speedway Track Champion Stewart Friesen is currently third in the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour standings with 791 points.  Friesen is also a two-time winner of this race in 2007 and 2009.  The top three RoC drivers have certainly shown their ability to win the biggest race of the season at Five Mile Point Speedway in years past.  Ryan Godown, who is currently fourth in the RoC standings with 790 points has never won at “Point” but can still win the overall RoC title with a victory on Saturday.  Three-time RoC Champion Pat Ward currently sits back in fifth place with 777 points.

Five Mile Point Speedway weekly driver Jeff Crambo will be looking to notch his third consecutive Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman title on Friday night during the RoC Sportsman 100.  Crambo currently leads Danny Tyler for the RoC point lead (433-390 points).   Both Crambo and Tyler have Modified experience at the speedway.  Crambo earned the 2012 “Rookie of the Year” title at Five Mile Point Season and Tyler recently recorded the huge victory in the Short Track SuperNationals Modified event.  Anthony Perrego, fresh off his Penn Can Speedway RoC Sportsman victory is third in the point standings with 373 markers.  Area driver Eddie White sits in fifth with 333 points and two-time Five Mile Point Speedway Track Champion Nick Petrilak rounds out the top five in the RoC points with 305.  The Sportsman RoC 100 will pay $2,555 to the race winner with an impressive $200 to take the green.

Saturday will see the richest ever Street Stock race held at Five Mile Point Speedway as the Race of Champions 40 lap finale will settle the championship for that series as well.  The 40 lap event will pay $2,000 to the winner and $100 to take the green.  Earl Zimmer regained the series point lead after a solid outing at the Penn Can Speedway.  In his last FMP appearance Zimmer wound up on his roof on a last lap tangle.  Zimmer has tallied 376 points.  Rich Green is second with 366 points and FMP Street Stock Champion Jon Carpenter is third with 360 points.  The area’s hottest driver is Shane Wolf as he won the final four races of the year at Five Mile Point Speedway (including the 10/6 RoC race).  He also won the most recent Penn Can Speedway RoC event on October 13th. Wolf has 352 points with fifth place driver Gene Sharpsteen sitting back in fifth with 329 points.

The National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will take place on Friday, October 26th and Saturday, October 27th at Five Mile Point Speedway.  Racing on Friday evening will get underway at 7 p.m. with racing set to get underway at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. There will be free camping, free parking and kids 12 and younger will be admitted free of charge.  For further information please phone 607-775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net.
