Racing Discussion / DONNA EDWARDS lover of racing passes
« on: February 28, 2019, 11:29:00 PM »
I just want all the RaceNY community know that Donna Edwards, long time lover of racing in general and especially dirt track racing has passed. she was my companion for nearly twenty years and courageously battled cancer for the past 12 months. Her steadfast support of my racing was a huge factor in my success. even though she could not come out to the track the last couple seasons she would always send me out the door to our race with the following admonishment; " Be Carefull........and KICK a ss!" I often told her those two don't usually go together but she was unfazed. Before she left us I gave her those same instructions for her mysterious journey. she was truly One of a Kind! Her calling hours will be 2 to 4PM at Walter J Kent funeral home in Elmira, NY.  thank You!   DALE WELTY #123 & 9x

Obituary of Donna Edwards
EDWARDS, Donna J.

Montour Falls, NY. She was born February 28, 1946 in Elmira, daughter of the late A. Reeve and Evelyn (Quigley) Edwards and passed away peacefully in her home after a courageous battle with cancer, Sunday, February 24, 2019. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Joseph Edwards. She is survived by her longtime partner Dale Welty; birth children Michele Wood-Knott (Mike) and Beth Kwasnowski-McKaig (Fred); siblings Richard & Bonnie Edwards of Palmyra, VA, Jeri Edwards of Elmira, Jeanette Wright of Millerton, PA, James & Kate Edwards of Elmira, Steve & Trina Edwards of Temple, TX and Nina Byford of McGregor, TX; Dale's brother and sister Darrell Welty of Elmira heights and Vicky Santarone of Challis, ID; Dale's daughter and son Kelly Buttery (Jeremy) of El Paso, TX and Craig Welty of St. helens, OR along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna had previously worked at Powers Mfg and Trayer Products in Elmira and stayed close to the friends she made there. She was a notorious night-hawk who loved to stay up late playing cards and Yahtzee. She was an expert euchre and canasta player; liked to dance and listen to area bands. Donna loved NASCAR racing and was a huge fan of area dirt track racing where she would cheer on her beloved companion, Dale. She had a great sense of humor and was loved by many. She lived in the Lone Star state for a number of years. If someone crossed her, she would good naturedly jerk her thumb at herself and say "Hey, don't mess with Texas". Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Saturday, March 2nd from 2 to 4 pm. Her memorial service will follow at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Donna through donations to your local animal shelter. Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Corning Guthrie Cancer Center for taking such good care of her during her struggle.

Here's another run for the crate sportsman # one-two-three. Came a long ways in this one. Still looking for marketing partners to join us on the car and you will get sponsor blurbs on the cautions on all our in-car video postings on social media. Regularly get anywhere from 75 to 700 hit's on youtube! Both the Modified #9x and the Crate Sportsman are looking for sponsors!

To answer a couple inquiries I got viva Facebook. Yes indeed this is the race after which our engine was impounded and taken to the dyno due to protest from the #15 car. It was dyno'd and was 347 HP. The spec is 355 HP and I understand DIRT CAR allows you up into the 370 plus range without considering it illegal. This engine is still our current back-up but we sold our 2018 engine and are at the mercy of the "Good Luck Horsepower" Engine God's with our new engine in 2019. BTW please check out Dale Welty Racing  on Facebook for updates through-out the season.

We went into this last point race tied in the Championship standing with Stevie Hartman III #15. Whoever beat the other would be crowned track Champion. If you watch closely you will see I barely survived three different incidents, a first turn pile-up, launching over the right front on another car in turn four and a wild front stretch tangle. In all three I was on the brakes so hard that I locked therear wheels and shut the engine down which you can see from the red light on my dash. If you've ever been in that situation you have to realize at a low corner speed track like Woodhull the likelyhood of your engine refiring when you get off the brakes is pretty low as the engine will be loaded up. Mine refired every time and because Hartman had when to the pits to get body work pulled off his tire I was able to beat him by one position.

Racing Discussion / another fun mid winter in-car action video
« on: January 11, 2019, 11:48:25 PM »
This race is from 2017. The track was rough that spring and earlier in the night I flipped the 9x Modified really hard when the shock mount broke on corner entry. But this is the Sportsman race later that same night. If you stop the video at 5:59 you will see that I was begining to flip the one-two-three Sportsman when I am knocked back down by another car resulting in my snatching a piece of bead lock wheel in my hand! Here's a pic from my flip early in the night & one in victory lane.

This was a "Star Series" feature at Skyline Raceway. It has everything....high side thrills, a bit of mud bogging through the infield, side by side high low classic battle, bouncing off the wall, shooting the needle on lap cars, running up the wall with the right rear and refusing to lose! Just thought it would be a nice break to watch some racing during the endless winter! Enjoy!

Racing Discussion / Wild in-car video action from Woodhull

I felt like I was in a street fight in this race. We are three wide for two laps with me being the sandwhich....I thought better of it for the next lap so cracked the throttle to let them ahead...made a good move for third but the caution negated it. Barely held in there for the last transfer handicap position...enjoy some bull-ring action!

Had to start 18th due poor showing in the heat race. Made some good moves and kept my nose clean to have another decent run....still not quite what we need at this track but we're learning!
