In my opinion, that gear /tranny combo will not work for Thunder/Skyline. A TH350 in first gear will give you a 8.13 final drive and in second gear you'll have a 4.90 final drive. First will be too much and second won't be enough. Redline is a lot smaller and has more bit than either of the tracks you plan on running. I believe most guys are running final drives in the  high 6's to low 7's.

If he runs 373's he should be ok,  3rd won't work on a 350 turbo. It will blow the pump out. We don't use 2nd in a powerglide so 2nd in a glide is 1.82 or 1.76 and a 350 turbo is 1.72.  So if he runs 3.73s it would be like running 3.42's w a glide. I'm using a 350 turbo, has 3.73's and turns 6000 rpms at a 3/8 mile.

I had 3.08 with my TH350 at Fivemile and ran in first ( Jerry witmarsh gearing from the 90's). Also heard of guys going 4.11 in second. i then Ran 3.42 with a powerglide and could not get out of the way. Change to 3.73 and finnaly felt fast. If you are new get gears and find your comb with your cam.
Run what ya brung.

I'm not going to argue but I know for a fact that a TH350 has a first gear ratio of 2.52 and second is 1.52. You can figure it out yourself, just multiply the tranny ratio by the gear ratio. Unfortunatly, the 3:23's you have seem to be in that area where no tranny will get you the final drive your looking for. I ran a TH350 in my Dog car and with tires that were 90" rollout with 3:08's in first gear, simular to what Zero said. 3:73's in second will only be 5.60 final (in second gear). If the tranny is good, change rear gears and give it a try. If your using a 7.5 rear, 3.08's are relatively easy to find. Check S-10's with 6 cylinders. Best to use 1st gear in a TH350, they "free-wheel" a little in second

1.82 and 1.76 are ratios for low gear in a glide, not 2nd, I think 2nd (or high) in a glide is 1 to 1

With a turbo 350 in low gear 308 in the rear should be to much gear at any track. That's a 776 final gear. You should run a 273 in low gear. That will give you a 687 final gear or a 256 in rear and trans. in low will give you 645 final gear. Unless you can afford to blow your engine up. Good luck with what ever you decide.
