I think buses that are turned into race car haulers are awesome.
I remember in the 90's someone from DTRP had one for a sportsman.
Anyone have pics of any
How much work/money is involved in doing it?
Tom McGrath....."Gus the Bus"
We have just began to convert a 92 bluebird (flatnose) into a toter to haul our 48ft. trailer should be done buy the beginning of next season we will be putting pics up as we go along on campcourcy.com our guess is when its all said and done we will have around 5 grand in it all together!
dave black "gus the bus".. many good times had ..
i used a bus to tow my trailer and made great hauler for the crew!!
joe toreci(sp) used a full size bus turned into hauler..
Both Bill and Joe Torrisi used the converted school bus as a race hauler.
I believe Wayne Edwards had one as I remember at Shangri-La.
Basil Shutt (Curt Vanpelt's car owner)had one in the early 90's at Woodhull, As did Tim Thortons team. Vanpelt also traveled some of the DIRT series small block races with it .Also Adam Ferri's (DIRT small block, late model)team from Canada uses a short bus to carry crew and pull the trailer, Just don't get stuck behind it leaving the track I think it tops out at about 45-50 fully loaded. LOL
The first bus/hauler I ever saw was Ron Zarpentine's. As a kid in the '60's,I thought it was pretty cool.
We had one and really liked it because , we where involved in a accident with it and it saved our lives because it was so well built for safety that we didn't get hurt . It was small bus we had a couch in there, shelves and bus seats for pass. We now haul with a ambulance and it is just not the same . Would rather have the old bus back .
Basil Shutt
Theres a name I haven't heard in forever..... Used to watch him race at Woodhull when I was a kid...
Mike Rizzo used to haul his Super Mod in a converted bus years ago.
As I recall the bus had a wood stove in it. (lol)
Don McGinnis had one that he used to haul his #20 to Ransomville and Canandaigua that was really cool. It had an observation deck on the roof to watch the races from, which was rare at the time and nice to have, except of course when his son Jeff (races 358's now) fell off it and broke his arm, at least that's what I remember. Jim Ruston had one, too, that made a few trips to my Dad's shop when Dad built cars for him.
Jim White from Savona maybe. Dave Machuga and Bill Miller drove for him a few times. Alcohol burning 460 if i remember right. big blue flame out the side goin into the turns. lol
theres a fella in woodlawn-- Dave kresconko (sp) 1st street salvage-- that used to build them. hauled his mud bogger in one. he could probably build you one or tell how what or whatever you need to know.
thats Dave Kreskonko 1st Street Salvage Woodlawn, NY (thats hamburg/lackawana) sorry don't have a phone number.
My favorite was Marcel LaFrance's. Mike Jeffrey also had onein the late 80's.
