Racing Discussion / The End is near OMG
« on: 25 Dec, 2020 01:17 »
breathtaking is the news that the 60 year relationship between NASCAR and Stafford Motor Speedway has come to an abrupt end. SMS will NOT carry the banner in 2021 for the weekly series in a dispute over (are you ready for it) MONEY.. This leave the state of CT without a single NASCAR track since ???? dirt was new.  Many many racers and fans have been complaining about Mother NAS losing touch with the sports grassroots. Having one of the corner stones in the East now outside and going there own way speaks volumes..  :-\

I shouldn't do this (but I will anyway). If anybody knows the whereabouts of my old dear friend Hoosier Daddy could you have him check in please. I'm worried about his well being.  8)

Racing Discussion / TTOM@ Stafford

In a year full of surprise (few if any good ones)  is the entry list for this Saturdays TTOM finalle at Stafford.  53 entries and while I've never seen a TT race that had more show that pre registered it will surely be an actual count well into the 40's.  My month ago prediction of 35 is blown out of the water. This will be a big one for sure (billed as the biggest Mod race of the year in some places)  and I think it will be.  Last chance to catch some great racing as the format calls for only 26 starters so do the math. EVERYBODY has to race to get in the show and there will be no easy path to make it.  I am SO looking forward to event.

Come on out...if you've never been  to Stafford now is the time.

Don't even know where to start with this place. Officials SCREWED Brian Sones out of win tonight. A racing deal pure and simple down in one with 4 laps to go. Chuck came down into him and they touched. Brian was the better car there and got to his number clean but Chuck hasn't won in a while and  pinched down into the 12'a rf. He sent himself into the wall with that move. But you think the cowards that run that place are going to give Sones a break with the Wanick 1?  Yeah..right....who put the extra cash into the purse tonight?  Sorry Ted you windbag. Your comments were ************. Brian didn't "stuff Chuck into the wall" (your words) it was a racing deal and if you were honest you will admit that.

Still looking for the oil from  the 19. The smoke was oil left over from the earlier leak they had in race one and the steering was not leaking and no amount of insistence will change that.

Nice call also Ted on the clock out on lap 19 of race one....NOT...oops..people who sponsor laps  kind of want to see them raced.  Time issue wouldn't even be in play if they had something close to real track clean up crew.

Comedy Central in eastern PA but nobody is laughing.. The joke this place is continues....

It's never easy to report these...when one of our "family" passes doing what they are driven to do.

Long time U/R promoter has made his last pace lap. 93 is a good run for anybody and Godspeed to a big part of the CNY racing scene in the 60's, 70's.

Hey Sportsman guys.. Mark 9/21 on your calendar for the the first ever John Burr Classic 75 to be run at the Mills.

Lee and Peggy Gill have done a great job this year breathing some new life into this old race place.  A nice year end show

will top off their first year. 3/8 mile with loads of room to race (and not crash) if you've been there you know that's true.

if you are tired of being treated like crap at certain little oval the haul to Evans Mills might make your year end a pleasant surprise.

I'm humpin the place because all these efforts by the folks trying to keep them afloat deserve respect and support to keep it all going.

ROC Sportsman rules and adjustments for crates make the racing very competitive.  A lap sponsorship has started and I have a couple bucks in

as I unfortunately can't be there that night but  IF you can please consider it.   Details >>

Racing Discussion / Apology

:-\ ..for my own part in the post race incident at Chemung last night..a night that was supposed to honor the greats of the past that help build this great sport we love.  To the staff and management of both the ROC and Chemung Speedway I'm sorry it happened.  It bothered me all the way home on my long drive. The extra "drama" that racing sometimes bring out isn't always pretty but it should be avoided as best we can. I'm always uncomfortable watching this at tracks up here and one track especially in the south and to be in the "stew" myself ..well like I said ...not proud of that.  Life goes on,racing goes on but hoping all involved can move past this going forward.  I AM proud to be part of a team that doesn't quit and it was cool watching our driver make lemonade out of lemons. THAT was a show. Congrats to Team Emerling whose victory lane deal was tarnished by the nonsense.

It was brought to my attention that more then a few people were spotted with older wristbands that were taped back on from other tracks or even no wristband due to passing it to someone else since they were in the pits for the night. It is hard enough for not only Star but all short tracks to make ends meet without having to have income basically stolen from us. With this the following policy will go into effect starting Saturday.

If a person is found to be in the pit area they will be escorted from the pits and to the pit window where they will be buy a pit band and have another $20 added on to the pit price. They will also have their picture posted on Facebook as one of the reasons why the short track industry is in trouble.
If this person is associated with a team - be it crew member, wife, sister, cousin, friend, if you are in that teams pit area you are associated they will also suffer the consequences of your actions. That car will have the equivalent of that days pit price deducted from their accumulated points total for the year. So For example Saturday will be a 45 point deduction. Or if you and the person you got band from are together it will be 90 points and so on. This could be very costly both points wise and points fund wise to a team. Should the people be from a Tour team, an amount of double the amount due that cars payoff will be deducted from that tours event purse.
Yes this policy is tough and may seem harsh but so is losing money to these people that have zero respect.
We will have people wandering the pits Saturday looking for no bands and bands that do not appear legit. These people may not have a Star, NASCAR or Bobby Webber Racing shirt on as we don’t want to tip people off and allow time for them to hide in a trailer.
Just giving people an ample warning time to think about what you have done to cause this policy and time to think about what you may do in the future.
Bobby

Someone named ( Steve ) wrote the following on RacedayCT >

"makes me laugh when a driver gets penalized for contact under yellow…. what is the harm? unless he damages the car he came in contact with. i don’t ever remember seeing TC or Rocco to name a few getting suspended for contact under yellow. Stafford seems to take away all the fun and excitement with their stupid rules… let the drivers show emotion, winners should be allowed to do at least one dounut after the race….

Akin to hitting after the whistle but that has to be explained to some people. beam me up.!!

Finished 6th in the VMRS portion of the Icebreaker today at Thompson after starting 15th.

A little down on speed in WMT practice but I'm sure he'll improve a bunch from his 28th time.

Good luck tomorrow Tommy.
