When did Ken Canastrari start racing? I first saw him in 1969 at Fulton and followed him when he ran Shangri-la. One night going home from Shangri-la He passed us on 17 near Endwell  and we saw a trooper do a u-turn to chase Ken. The next week we asked him where the trooper caught up with him. He was already on 88 when he pulled over.  He always had a sharp looking car and it usually had more power than he could use. in later years I always thought he should get a younger driver to run it.

Checkout the 1st picture with the old flag stand and that is my Dad with his back to us ! Plus look at all the people standing under the bleachers ! All that got changed when Gordie Isham ended up in the stands right by those steps in the back ground.

I don't know when Ken Canestreri started running, but Ibeleive he still runs a limited schedule @ Shangrila II. I remember when Dad ran w/him back in the day. He was 1 of the nicest guys to talk to. I imagine he still is.

Yes, still a great guy and a helluva body man.  Just loves racing, and his wife Dolores was always a hoot to watch at Shangri-La when she'd get all excited when he's be in the lead.  As soon as he faded back she'd sit down.  The night he won his first race there she wasn't in attendance, and that still bugs them both a bit. :)

One of his former cars (think it was the '84 Troyer) became the street legal metalflake "XXX" that was at Oswego one year.  The guy who bought it registered it as a Cavalier.  Don't think that worked too well IIRC...

Well, it says Bill Strosahl on the roof, but that looks like Mike Loescher to me.

CORRECT! MIKE WAS NEARBY AND THEY NEEDED SOMEBODY TO GET IT OFF THE HAULER, BECAUSE BILL WAS LATE.
