Stephen-seems to happen at a lot of late season shows. First time I ever went to the Wyoming Cty Fall sportsman biggie, I swear every mod driver around had an SST car and proceeded to settle season long grievances. At Flammy, the guys in contention for the overall points win in the Grisdale series ran very clean but further back, a lot of take outs. I'm skipping the Peterborough show this weekend-too long, too many divisions and hope to go to Batavia (where my late father lived for a few years as a kid) on the 26th and hope no Vendettas take place. Cheers

pretty decent show on Sunday-started about 40 minutes (3:40) late due to a shower during practice. 22 late models, 19 Oscaar sportsman mods, 17 Oscaar micro sprints (snowmobile powered), 18 Oscaar hot rod class cars. Late models ran 100 laps, sportsman mods 50. Over at 8:20 pm. Only negative was a strong wind in the face of the spectators and Oscaar's insistence that their cars run double heats. Peterborough Speedway has a big show this weekend. Shae Gemmel from London Ont., a regular in the APC series, won the three race Grisdale triple crown-finished second in this one to Shane McGinnis. Shawn Chenoweth third. Seemed to be a few late season vendettas being settled.

Racing Discussion / Re: Why there aren't more race cars on the track.
« on: September 29, 2019, 09:47:55 PM »
over my years of following racing and owning a car for a couple years, I've always noted the difference between dirt racers and pavement racers is; dirt racers ask how much to win and pavement guys how much to start. Up here in Ontario, LM racing has always been predominant after the demise of super mods weekly in the late 60s. Modifieds never really got a toe hold.  For a while, heavily sponsored lm racers like Jr Hanley (with the Baker, Prototype engine sponsorships) almost killed weekly lm racing but what I found was the limited late model car of the era evolved and grew into the Pro (crate) late models we have today. Early Alstar tours using G60 street rubber as a cost saving was definitely "no pass" racing. The APC tour with its' healthy car count doesn't pay a lot but there are good contingency awards and a lot of free tire rewards to the loyal followers of the tour. A columnist I read said there are just as many racers as 20 years ago but too many divisions for them to choose-too many toy car classes for example and they don't seem to last-Cup Lite and Pro Challenge series come to mind. It is not all roses in Ontario-the Pintys tour race at Jukasa had a season high of 24 cars for the Pintys oval part of the series. And re the huge purse for pro late models there in August. There is rumours of money laundering going on and it seems justified as there is no way the tickets covered the purse. Just some random thoughts...………..

Brooks dq'd the second place car of Eddie MacDonald from Mass for having his ignition set at 6900 rpm and the rules permitted 6400 but in a press release admitted the car went thru pre qualifying tech and had a seal put on the box (They were using APC seals-the Ont sanctioning body). After Pollard, it ended up being locals Matt Pritiko and J.R. Fitzpatrick second and third. About 15 no shows from the entry list, but a friend who races in APC told me that it would cost him about $8000 in upgrades to conform to the more liberal Jukasa rules. Macdonald went from $35000 Cdn to $3500 for last place

except for this past weekend, Jukasa (Cayuga) has been all Sat night shows this year. Maybe time to go Sunday afternoons for ISMA and try and get the fans and cars from the Sat. venues attending Sean.

Stephen: I put the American driver's comment about the incident on the Stock Car Racing in Ontario facebook group-quite interesting. Said he was getting doored for two laps before the incident, Mike

ps-super late models were down to 19 and I believe the Bozell (Bosell) 8 won, Like super mods-fast but fragile. The Ontario base of cars is down to about a dozen on a regular basis-no longer sanctioned by Oscaar. Support div on Saturday was the Oscaar hot rods which is sort of a mish mash of what some folks think late models looked like in the 70s-around 17 of them

I think Sam went home before qualifying-practice speed was a bit slow and am not sure if King took a time trial. Looks like 55 late models took time trials with Eddie Macdonald from Mass fast time followed by Cdn J.R. Fitzpatrick second. A number of no shows and perhaps the Jukasa pro lm rules permitting cambered rear ends, Penske shocks and the trick tranny scared a few away. The Ontario APC series does not permit those and it was said it would cost $8000 to upgrade most cars otherwise you're bringing a knife to a gun fight. Show was rained out Sunday after the first lm heat which had a fist fight between a local and a Tenn driver after a crash. Will resume circa 10am Monday. Weather still might be a factor

you're right especially in the early days of ISMA and I remember 20 years ago, the Sunday shows at Cayuga and Mosport had a number of Saturday night Oswego cars, Perhaps some shows are just being booked on the wrong date

Racing Discussion / ISMA car counts
« on: August 19, 2019, 12:39:54 PM »
not sure if ISMA can stay functioning with mediocre car counts. 13 at Delaware Ontario Saturday, previous Jukasa show had 18 (with two team cars running as start and parks). At Delaware, 3 were out by lap ten and 6 cars running at the finish. I hear excuses of the border (customs etc) but when you know in the winter that 3 shows on your rather limited schedule are going to be in Canada, crossing the border should not be an issue. Even Hy Miler at Sandusky had 21 for the Saturday finale-a race that used to require a B main in recent years. Somehow a lot of dirt mod teams cross the border 20 times a year with no problem.
Don't get me wrong, I like the cars but perhaps they are just too expensive to run on a tour any longer. Some folks said going against Oswego hurts but their weekly field is 19-20 in a feature and most seem to be locals with no interest in travelling

Is the completion of the show a stand alone race or is it combined with other races as part of the US Open.??? Thanks
