Weedsport Kartway Introduces ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ Series to Overall 2021 Schedule

WEEDSPORT, NY (February 21, 2021) – Weedsport Kartway’s 2021 racing campaign will include a total of seven events, including the inaugural ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ series beginning in June.

The three-race ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ series will take place on June 24, July 15 and August 19 and will follow a more traditional weekly racing format with heats and features as part of the evening racing programs for Weedsport’s eight point divisions.

“We wanted to change things up some in regards to the style of racing at the Kartway,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps.  “We will still have three PRO style weekends on our calendar, offering prize money and a chance at championship leather jackets, but we also wanted to introduce more of a weekly feel to some of our events in the summer.  Our ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ program will help to provide something for everyone in the karting community.”

‘Thursday Night Thunder’ will crown champions in all racing divisions following the August 19 event, with the top five in Clone Light and Clone Heavy points eligible for the 3rd annual NYS Clone Invitational, which will take place during Octoberfest Weekend.

Octoberfest Weekend will once again cap the 2021 calendar, as well as the Slack Karts Super Kart Series.

The Slack Karts Super Kart Series will follow Weedsport’s traditional formatting of Sunday afternoon racing for three major event weekends during the year, beginning on Sunday, May 23 with the third running of Kart Cup.

The May 23 Kart Cup will feature the same eight weekly point classes from 2020, as well as PRO Clone 360, with $1,500 in winning’s up for grabs across the Twin 20 format.

The second round of the Slack Karts Super Kart Series will see the return of the James Shutts Memorial on Sunday, September 19.  The day’s eight point classes will be joined with the $722 to win James Shutts Memorial PRO Clone Super Heavy special, as well as a $500 to win PRO Clone 360 main.

As mentioned, Octoberfest Weekend will finish out the year on October 16-17, with two separate days of action.

The Saturday, October 16 opener will see all eight point divisions plus $250 to win PRO Blue Clone, the $500 to win NYS Clone Invitational, and the $1,000 to win Octoberfest 30 for PRO Clone 360.

The Sunday, October 17 finale will see Slack Karts Super Kart Series champions crowned in all eight divisions as well as $250 to win PRO Jr. Unrestricted, $500 to win PRO Clone Super Heavy, and the 4th annual Octoberfest 40 paying $2,000 to win.

New to this year’s Slack Karts Super Kart Series will be a 2021 Slack Pursuit kart giveaway to a random driver with perfect attendance at events held on May 23, September 19, October 16 and October 17.  All drivers with perfect attendance at those events will be eligible for the random drawing at the conclusion of Octoberfest Weekend.

More specific details on the 2021 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks, as well as an update on the 2021 ruleset for the Kartway.  All classes will still utilize AKRA Clone guidelines for the coming season, as well as Burris 33 tires.

CRSA Sprints Add Three Dates To 2021 Schedule

Press Release by: Steven Ovens – February 20, 2021 – Photo by AJ Yabroudy –

(SODUS, NY) – The future stars of sprint car racing in the Northeast- the Super Gen Products CRSA Sprints will be putting 2020 completely in the rearview mirror come 2021 and will have little reason or time to look back.

A COVID-19-affected season that only featured 4 series points shows had been largely upgraded with a 2021 schedule that initially included 12 races. As of this past week- that total has grown to 15 with the addition of 2 tour dates at Brett Deyo’s new promotional effort at Utica-Rome Speedway and an additional date at Ronnie Ford’s Afton Speedway.

Series promoter Mike Emhof announced the events Saturday afternoon- Friday June 25 at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY; Friday July 9 at Afton Speedway in Afton, NY; and back to Utica-Rome on Friday August 20.

“We are extremely thankful that Brett has included CRSA and the Patriots into his new effort at Utica-Rome,” noted Emhof. “This is a very exciting time for fans of this historic racing facility. We’ve had a great partnership with Brett with CRSA at the Short Track Supernationals and more recently at Fonda Speedway. Our drivers are already looking forward to putting on a thrilling show for Brett’s fanbase.”

Afton Speedway, second all-time in CRSA history with 32 events, has added a July 9 special featuring the stars of the 305 sprints. This date is in addition to the already scheduled tour date during the Brett Deyo promoted Fall special on October 8. High hopes are held for racing and fans to return to the racy clay oval just off Interstate 88 after a season of quiet in 2020.

There is an additional date on the CRSA Sprints schedule, Saturday July 3, that is being discussed and we hope to share some exciting news on that in the near future. Stay tuned to all of the social channels for the CRSA Sprints for more developments.

The 2021 Super Gen Products CRSA Sprints 15-race tour schedule is also flanked by weekly Saturday night CRSA-sanctioned racing at Paul Cole’s Land of Legends Raceway. Land of Legends just announced on Friday a purse increase for the 305 Sprint Cars- now paying $500-to-win, $300 for second, $220 for third and $125 just to take the green flag.

Racing Discussion / RaceNewYork Forum Changes Upcoming
« on: February 17, 2021, 12:53:13 PM »
This forum software has been our home for over 10 years...and with all the changes in the world of social media over the past several years we've decided to move to a more modern platform.  Actually, this has been in the works since February 2020, but due to the abbreviated racing season last year the plans were put off until 2021.

We anticipate most everything on RaceNewYork will be transferred over. That's an important consideration because this site holds generations worth of historical content that tells much of the story of auto racing in our region.

It's my hope that the new system will allow greater ability to engage socially, whether it be from the comforts of your home computer, or from the grandstands of your favorite track. Where racing is happening in our region...we want to be there!

We are anticipating the rollout to be in the March 1, 2021 time frame.

Questions?  Request for features?   Format changes?  Use this thread to discuss them please...

Thanks for supporting RaceNewYork,

ADDISON, CORNING AND HORNELL NAPA STORES TO SPONSOR THE HOBBY STOCK DIVISION AT OUTLAW SPEEDWAY IN 2021.
((Dundee, NY) Vera Eaker of Addison NAPA Auto Parts along with Nate Dunning who owns both the Corning and Hornell NAPA Auto Parts Stores are pleased to announce that they have teamed up to sponsor the Hobby Stock Division at the Outlaw Speedway during the 2021 season.
According to Outlaw Owner/Promoter, Tyler Siri, “The NAPA Auto Parts Hobby Stock Class is one of the most competitive classes that races at the track.  Week in and week out the level of competition is awesome and we are extremely proud to have the Addison, Corning and Hornell NAPA Stores come onboard to sponsor the class for the 2021 season.”
Having started at Outlaw a few seasons ago with just a handful of cars, this relatively inexpensive form of racing has grown in leaps and bounds and now the track can safely boast of anywhere from fourteen to eighteen machines on any given Friday night. Full fields are uncommon during post season special events. The caliber of drivers ranges from raw rookies to competitors that find the affordability of the division to their liking.  In many cases retired drivers have come out of moth balls to get back into the sport they love without having to remortgage their homes to compete.
For the entire season, the NAPA Auto Parts Hobby Stock Division will receive numerous mentions throughout the night by the announce team along with coverage on the all-new Outlaw Speedway Pay Per View that will go into effect when the track opens for competition in early April.  Also, the NAPA Auto Parts Hobby Stock Class will be mentioned in all Quick Results and Full Race Stories that will be issued by the tracks Public Relations Department each race event.
Addison NAPA Auto Parts is located right on Main Street in Downtown Addison and has been under the direction of owner, Vera Eaker since 1973 and is the areas local supplier for Circle Track Race Car Parts.
Having spend most of his adult working life at various NAPA stores throughout Upstate New York, Nate Dunning purchased the Corning NAPA Store located on Park Avenue in South Corning in May of 2015.  Since then, he has also taken ownership of the Hornell NAPA Store at 2100 State Route 21, North Hornell in August 2019.  It should be noted that Dunning got his start in the business as an employee of Eaker at Addison NAPA Auto Parts some fifteen years ago.
Both Eaker and Dunning look at this as the perfect opportunity to become a partner with Outlaw Speedway as they look forward to the added value of marketing thru Motorsports.

"Cautiously Optimistic Chemung Speedrome Releases 2021 Schedule"
by Carol Houssock

(Chemung, NY)  “We have no idea right now if the State will allow us to open. We’re waiting for direction from state and local health departments as well as the Governor, but we’re planning to open on schedule if allowed,” stated Speedrome Promoter Ray Hodge. Hindsight is 20/20, but in 2020 Chemung saw just one event before the shutdown that wiped out the rest of the season.
Hodge and Race Director Jerry Sinsabaugh have worked tirelessly to bring an energetic and intriguing schedule to race teams and fans for the upcoming season. Like bookends, the Speedrome is scheduled to begin and end 2021 with two-day programs.
“One of the big changes this year we’re really excited about is we’re holding a four-race series using track rules for both the Sunoco Modifieds and the Super Stocks,” Hodge added. “These are non-Chemung points races (Cup Series) and we’ll have a champion for each.” Buckley’s Automotive has come on board to sponsor the Modified series, with each of their races paying $1,000 to win.
While the pandemic had a dreadful impact on racing in New York’s southern tier, the business community is being supportive of racing’s return in a big way. “We’re thrilled that so many businesses have come on board to be the title sponsor for a division, to sponsor race nights, and to purchase signage at the track,” Sinsabaugh stated. Division sponsors now include the Marion Decker Agency Hobby Stocks and the Insinger Super Stocks.
The Race of Champions Modified Series will roll into Chemung twice again this year. Their first visit will be on May 8th, with the annual Watkins Glen weekend event on August 7th. Both of those shows will take place on Saturday evenings. The popular New York Super Stock series also returns for a pair of events, on June 18th and July 23rd.
Chemung is also planning to honor several racing greats and special groups this year. “We’ll have $5 admission nights for Law Enforcement, Firefighters/EMT’s/First Responders, and Town of Chemung residents. And we’re continuing to honor Veterans on one special night, with free admission for them,” said Sinsabaugh. Other honorees include Buck Sharpsteen (Grand Marshall) and memorials for Ed Bidlack, Gary Marshall, Ed McGuire, and Russ Tubbs. Fans can cheer on the Sunoco Modifieds, Insinger Super Stocks, 4 Cylinders, Marion Decker Hobby Stocks, INEX Legends and INEX Bandoleros.
Cars return to the Speedrome for testing on April 17th and 24th, with a double-header the following weekend, April 30th and May 1st to get the season going. Day 2 of the opening weekend will include the TQ Midgets.
The schedule and the track’s new website are still being tweaked but racers and fans are reminded to go to the official site on Facebook, ‘Chemung Speedrome – Racing at the Drome’ for all the latest news. When construction is complete, the new website will have details on race nights, sponsors, and where to go for more information.
“Fans in general, and kids in particular, have their own Appreciation nights this year, but everyone at the Speedrome greatly appreciates the support we’ve all received. We’re hopeful that we can move forward with our plans to bring the sights, sounds, and smells of racing back to this legendary facility,” said Hodge.
For more information call Ray Hodge at 607-483-3468.

CRSA Sprints 2021 Schedule Announced; Return to Thunder Mountain Speedway Sep. 12

Press Release by: Steven Ovens – January 24, 2021 – Photo by SJS Photos –

(SODUS, NY) – The future stars of sprint car racing in the Northeast- the Super Gen Products CRSA Sprints proudly announced their 11-race 2021 season schedule over the Holidays. Now just a few weeks later, the list has grown to 12 as series promoter Mike Emhof has announced an event at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, NY.

CRSA looks forward to returning to Thunder Mountain for a Sunday September 12 event that finds the 305 Sprints paired up on the card with “The Unruly Race” which caps off Thunder Mountain’s 2021 season. The event will pay $1,000 to the winner, making it the seventh event paying that amount as a winner’s minimum take home.

2021 will see CRSA return to Thunder Mountain after a year off in 2020, as touring sprint organizations suffered from regulations surrounding the response to COVID-19. It will not be one of the first times the tour has been up on top of the Mountain, not by a wide margin.

Thunder Mountain has played host to the SuperGen Products CRSA Sprints a total of ten times between 2007 and 2019- checking in at tenth most in Series history.

“We couldn’t be happier to be returning to see the Spoonhower’s at Thunder Mountain Speedway in September,” said CRSA Sprints owner and promoter Mike Emhof.

“What Karl has done to improve Thunder Mountain Speedway since 2013 is just incredible and is a great place for our teams, marketing partners, and our fans to turn out and put on a show for their loyal fans.”

One driver who will be very much looking forward to the return to Thunder Mountain is Dalton Herrick out of McDonough, NY. Herrick has scored all three of his CRSA Sprints wins on the three-eighths-mile clay oval overseen by the Spoonhower family. The first coming in August of 2014, his second in October of 2018 and hist most recent coming in CRSA’s most recent stop at Thunder Mountain on July 21, 2019.

Thunder Mountain has been good to drivers seeking their first career CRSA Sprints victory in years past. Both Matt Demitraszek and Jamie Russell would grace CRSA Victory Lane for the first time in their careers during 2007 stops on tour.

CRSA Schedule At a Glance

Three out of five tracks that sit atop the CRSA record books for races hosted will see events added to their total in 2021. The state of Pennsylvania and Gary Folk’s Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA will host CRSA’s opening round event for this season on May 7, their 27th race in tour history. This will be flanked by two more stops at “The Can” on July 23 and September 25 for the “King of the Can”.

Fonda Speedway is a very welcomed return to the CRSA Sprints schedule for 2021, with planned events paying $1,000-to-win on June 5, July 31 and September 17. Fonda has hosted the CRSA Sprints a total of 21 times dating back to their first event on May 2, 2009.

Afton Motorsports Park, second all-time in CRSA history with 32 events, will once again host the stars of the 305 sprints during the Brett Deyo promoted Fall special on October 8. This event is always a lucrative one- carrying a $1,000 top prize and has included lap sponsorships as an added bonus in seasons past.

Weedsport Speedway will play host to the CRSA Sprints during the final weekend of May. It will be just the second time the 305 sprints will have graced Al Heinke and Jimmy Phelps’ “Showpiece of the Northeast” with a $1,000-to-win event.

Paul Cole’s Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, NY hosts weekly, CRSA-sanctioned events during the season with weekly car counts approaching a full field. Future sprint car stars are groomed weekly in Canandaigua and will be joined by the CRSA tour regulars in a trio of events on May 22, June 19 and August 14.

Additions to the 2021 CRSA Sprints tour schedule are being discussed and will be announced at a later date.

Susice Bros. Leave Field Hungover As LOLR Launches 2021 Campaign
April 24 'Saturday Spectacular' officially kicks off 58th race season at Ontario Co. Fairgrounds

Canandaigua, NY – January 1, 2021 – Tom Skibinski, Land of Legends Raceway PR

Billed as the 'Hangover Gets A Double Shot' presented by Eldredge & Sons Scrap Recycling in its 19th edition kicking off the new year, Ransomville brothers Austin and Cole Susice fittingly doubled up as they etched their names into the record book after capturing checkered flags Friday to unofficially uncork the 2021 motorsports campaign at Land Of Legends Raceway.

Austin dominated the 6-Cylinder field that turned out in full force and Cole topped a colossal 4-Cylinder class with the shortened twin 50-lap feature winners each pocketing a cool $500 for the day. Race runner-ups Jimmy Grant from Penn Yan/6-Cyl. and Taylor Partee from Seneca Falls/4-Cyl. each earned $250 from LOLR in 'Memory of Dave Dandino' while Dalton Martin from Scottsville/6-Cyl. and Darryl Ruggles from Hopewell/4-Cyl. took home $100 in Smith Bros. Drywall 3rd-place bonuses.

“This is an historic event and when the opportunity came to play host it was something we just couldn't turn down,” stated LOLR promoter Paul Cole, now embarking on his fourth successive season promoting the hallowed Ontario Co. Fairgrounds half-miler. “We were fortunate to be able to fulfill it.”

“This wasn't your typical event, no Big-Blocks or Sprints, no handicapping, qualifying or hot laps, just pure racing. It was like a rolling demolition derby. Too much action to watch, and almost too much for our TV crew to cover. There was always a lot going on, constant drama in every corner. Best of all, everybody had a lot of fun and that's what racing should be about,” added Cole, who co-promoted the event with long-time racing publicist Tana Robinson.

“Paul actually inquired right after Utica-Rome held the event last January,” noted Robinson, who has reported on all but one 'Hangover' happening since Loren Fish ---Friday's grand marshal who waved the opening green flag--- first presented the idea to the Friesen Family, long-time owners of Ransomville Speedway. “When the ongoing pandemic forced Utica to give up the 2021 date in November, Paul was all over it. He texted me right after and we started signing up cars ever since.”

Ed Lechner won the inaugural “Fish's Automotive Hangover 100 Enduro” at the Big R in 2001 while local leadfoots Richard Conte (4-Cyl./50L), Kyle Richner (6-Cyl./50L) and Tyler Haniszewski (8-Cyl./50L) shared top honors in the extended 'Hangover 150' version in 2017 ---- the final winter event run at the popular WNY facility that was twice postponed until on Feb. 4.

Regaining its New Year's Day status in 2020, DIRTcar Sportsman standout Chris Mackey outlasted a full field of nearly 90 racers to claim the 18th Annual 'Hangover' holiday special moved east to Bill and Kim Shea's Utica-Rome Speedway.

“Racing at Canandaigua has always been a big deal, really means something, truly a land of legends to both the racers and fans,” added Robinson, who spearheaded registration for Friday's winter bash that totaled 183 entries come race day, joining Sheila Darcy, Toni Dillon and Nick Fultz in the scoring tower once chief starter Scott Hixson waved the first green flag. All-time LOLR Street Stock winner Mike Welch climbed out of the cockpit to head the track tech team. “Track ties with WNY teams has been super strong and all the excitement leading up to today helped produce a great turnout in just the first time here.”

The First of January dawned cloudy and cold with the sun playing peek-a-boo early on as temperatures hovered around the freezing mark. Racers from around the region flocked to the fairgrounds soonafter as gates swung open at 8:00am, anxiously firing up their full-fender machines for the highly-anticipated afternoon affair that marked the earliest stock car event scheduled in speedway history.

“The hardest part about getting around the track was all the mud,” remarked Austin Susice, 22, after helping author another chapter of legend lore in Canandaigua to springboard the 58th season of car racing in wine country. Adding to the family trophy mantle, Austin and Cole are cousins of 2009 LOLR Sportsman points champion Ryan Susice.

“The dead cars are not hard to get around, you just slide into them. Over there in turns one and two (mud) got real, real deep. You just had to keep your momentum or else you got it stuck,” Susice said.

Beginning sixth in the 67 car 6-Cylinder field lined-up in order of date registered, Susice charged past front-row partners Brandon Prentice and Rick Crego on the opening circuit to show his intentions early. Only Ricky Washburn and Kyle Wilkins could overtake the leader before Susice put his #6 Toyota Avalon out front for good by the lap 15 mark.

With the ultra-heavy track conditions plaguing racers from the start, the first of many fires during the day broke out under the hood of a mud-covered vehicle on the back straightaway to force out a red flag with 22 laps scored. Susice ran comfortably ahead with Hunter Phillips and James Sickles his closest challengers.

By the midway point only seven cars could muster up any movement as the remainder of the 60+ starting field sat stranded around the mud-bogged speedplant. LOLR regular Jimmy Grant was not one of those parked, looking to unlap himself after a quick tire change under red gave him new life and renewed hope to contend for the top prize.

A second stoppage for Eric Rowley's burning mount on lap 39 once again froze the field, and back under green Susice retained the point ahead of Grant and Dalton Martin. Grant faded soonafter the final restart and with finishing positions locked in, the race was checkered after 46 laps giving Susice his first Canandaigua triumph.

“Usually its balls to the wall on the gas and I destroy the car or blow it up,” confessed Susice, who was scored 5th at Utica-Rome last January. While COVID-19 shuttered his hometrack this past summer, he placed 18th in the final Sportsman point standings at Ransomville in 2019. “I took my time this time. Didn't look at the lap counter until that last red and didn't even think we were in the lead because this thing slowed way, way down at the end.”

“Have to thank everybody that helped out … Tyler, Timmy and Mama Sue, and Triple T Auto Parts, without them I wouldn't have any of these cars and we wouldn't be here. Big thanks to Whitey for helping me strip down these cars, Danny Myrto for letting me mount tires and K&G Graphics for all the artwork,” Susice added.

While attrition was high in the opening round 6-Cylinder shootout, the drop-out rate was magnified further in the 4-Cylinder finale that ultimately signed up 116 cars for the prescribed 25-mile main. And while the first segment was stopped four laps short, the 50-lap follow-up was consummately cut in half as the few cars that remained running could not improve their finishing positions.

“Pretty sweet to show up from just a couple hours away and take all their money,” beamed Cole, 20, who was declared the victor with 25 laps scored to join his older brother in a wet Canandaigua winner's circle. “Soon as I found out I had a K (Series) here I knew I was gonna win it, can't compete against one of these motors.”

Engine power had little relevance, however, as maneuvering around stalled cars and navigating through the quagmire proved most pivotal in the Friday free-for-all. Even pole-sitter and track veteran Darryl Ruggles' #1 Nissan Sentra got stymied en route to taking the initial green flag, consequently stacking up the field in turn three to require the first red flag with barely a single lap scored.

The opening lap lead was credited to 17th-starting Justin Santoro yet Taylor Partee came from 31st in his #31 Chevrolet Cavalier to assume command following the lap one 20-min. delay. Head flagman Hixson was far from done, unfurling the cardinal cotton twice more, and with a dozen laps complete about a dozen cars from the original 110+ starting grid could be seen weaving their way across the marshland.

Despite his early issues trackside, Ruggles regrouped to grab the runner-up spot before a fourth red flag flew on lap 14 for a turn one fire. On the ensuing restart, Ruggles passed Partee entering turn two yet the 305 Sprint Car star could only hold the point for a moment as his ride suddenly came to stop exiting the second corner. But even that advantage was short-lived as Susice slid past Partee for the last lead change just two laps later.

With only a half-dozen machines still moving with 20 laps counted, Susice was miles ahead of the competition steering his #24 Honda Accord. Despite no chance of coming home first, Canandaigua's own Ryan Cheasman was a show-stopper in the late stages, running backward for nearly two laps before coming to a halt as his #25 Chevy Malibu went up in smoke on the front chute to incur the final red flag.

Susice suddenly slowed to a stop in the turn three mud when the race resumed, leaving Dakota Longwell and Soapy Madia as the lone cars running with 25 laps scored. Yet with Longwell already down 16 laps and Madia close behind, when both cars lost power the race was deemed over and the name Susice echoed in victory lane once more. Partee and Ruggles came next, each settling in 11 laps behind.

“Thought I was done (when stuck in turn 3), had it in first gear and was hitting the shift for about a half-hour before they came and pushed me out,” explained Susice, after his team of Ransomville regulars got him back rolling just in time to greet announcer Steve Ovens at the finish line. “It was awesome, the first time I've been out to this track.”

“The hardest part was just trying to stay alive and not get stuck early. I was scared during a few of those reds but after you get moving you're pretty good. Just tried not to get stuck. Always wanted to run my mini stock here, just brought this car out today to have some fun. Didn't think I was gonna win it.”

“Have to thank my mom and dad, brother Austin and Brian … and that group of guys that helped push me out,” concluded Susice, who posted four wins on his way to the 2019 Ransomville Mini-Stock points title and confirmed he'll be back when LOLR hosts a 'full-fender frenzy' on Sept. 11 that includes a return of the 4-Cylinder division. “I know Mike Kramarz was one of them. We're all part of the same team.”

OUTLAW SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF 360 SPRINTS PRESENTED BY LANES YAMAHA TO THE WEEKLY RACE PROGRAM BEGINNING IN 2021.
Also, the all new Outlaw TV, additional pit towers and seating along with the Outlaw Saloon to be introduced beginning in April of 2021.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) In a major announcement, Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri has added the high profile 360 Sprints to the weekly race program at the Yates County oval.
“I am pleased to announce that we are including the winged Lanes Yamaha 360 Sprint Cars to our weekly show at Outlaw Speedway stated Siri in a recent interview.  Historically this track has always been receptive to great sprint car racing because of its configuration with fast/wide sweeping corners with just the right amount of banking. In addition, whenever we run a 360 Sprint Special, we have packed grandstands. Sprint cars at Outlaw Speedway have the “Wow Factor” that fans love.  This is still Modified country, but people in this region love sprint cars at Outlaw Speedway and they turn out in droves every time we have them.”
The 360 Sprints will run for the same exact purse as do the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge Jeep, Ram Modifieds with the winner receiving $2,000 to win and $200 to take the green flag.  The inaugural 2021 Lanes Yamaha 360 Sprint Car Track Champion at Outlaw Speedway will take home a $5,000 check.
“Malcolm Lane and his family have been huge supporters of this track for the last 50 years stated Siri.  Malcolm had a Hall of Fame career before his retirement from 360 Sprint Car racing and many of his accomplishments in the sport have him ranked as one of the all-time greats.  Having Lane’s Yamaha onboard as the class sponsor of the 360 Sprint Car Class at Outlaw Speedway is a perfect fit.”
In addition, Malcolm Lane will field his own 360 Sprint Car Team with son Craig handling the driving chores and other son, Keith assisting father Mal in the crew chief duties.
Outlaw Speedway currently runs a weekly seven division show with many times at or near full fields of cars in the Modified and two Crate Sportsman Divisions.  When asked about his plans to keep the show limited on time and if any classes would be dropped or run on a limited basis or rotating schedule Siri’s response was this.
“The IMCA Modifieds will be dropped off the weekly schedule along with the Youth Bandit Division. Car counts in both classes continue to dwindle prompting the change”, stated Siri
“We will continue to stay with our 2020 gate and start times with gates opening at 5:30 and racing at 7:30 pm.  We are going stick with the 7:30 start time simply because a lot of our racers and fans find it hard to get here sooner due to their work commitments.”
Siri went on to exclaim that adding the 360 Sprints to the card was not totally a knee jerk reaction to the fact that with the COVID-19 19 Pandemic coupled with New York State’s stringent executive orders not allowing fans into the grandstands during the 2020 season.
“It is still very unclear as to whether anything will be different in 2021 as far as fans in the stands stated Siri.  Groups like ESS and PST barely ran a show in 2020.  These organizations run primarily at tracks as a special event and not a weekly attraction.  With the shutdown promoters like myself stuck to a basic regular weekly show during the 2020 season as with no fans we simply could not afford any outside touring groups.  With all the uncertainty going into 2021 coupled with the fact that I do not for see New York lightening up on any regulations heading into the new race season we could very well be looking at the same type of deal we had in 2020.”
Tyler Siri is currently putting the finishing touches on what he promises will be another aggressive schedule of events for the 2021 season as he has done in the past including the return of the Short Track Super Series. The Rush Crate Late Model Touring Series will return to Outlaw Speedway in “21”. Also, something new for the upcoming season will be the first ever appearance for the ULMS Super Late Model Series.  It is likely the complete Outlaw Speedway 2021 schedule of events will be posted within a week.
Drivers and car owners will be able to show off their 2021 creations at the Annual Outlaw Speedway Arnot Mall Car Show set for March 27-28. The Lucas Oil Nationals will open the regular season on Saturday, April 10. This event will be followed by the Cindy Lane Memorial Spring Nationals on April 16.   As far as the Lanes Yamaha 360 Sprints on a weekly basis Outlaw will go with the standard ESS/PST rules package, but will run 8 lap heats, a B-Main if necessary, along with a 25-lap feature.
It should be noted that a complete list of the rules will be posted as they become available on the track web site at www.outlawspeedwayllc.com
Siri is proud to announce that in addition to the inclusion of the  Lanes Yamaha 360 Sprint Car Division at Outlaw Speedway he potentially will also field his own 360 Sprint Car which he will include into his arsenal of high powered modifieds fielded by the Bossman Tyler Siri himself, son Jordan Siri along with the Doctor Danny Johnson.  Siri did go onto say that “I would really like to have one to try out, but my crew is pretty well stretched to the limit with handling everything that goes along with three modifieds.  I will probably wind up having a 360 Sprint, but how much I will race it is another story.”
Siri enjoys a challenge and knows full well that the 360 Sprints were tried at what was then called Black Rock Speedway by then promoters Lin Hough and Sam Kelly with the outcome not exactly what was expected.
“Back then Lin and Sam did what they had to do, and it was something that they thought was the right direction for the track at that particular time.  However, that was fifteen years or more ago and a lot of the racing climate has changed during that time.  The 360 Sprint Cars in the northeast have grown in popularity dramatically and these teams have lots of partners and resources and there are a lot more teams out there as well.  Both PST and ESS have done a remarkable job in promotion and have brought a lot to the industry.”
Currently there are approximately 50 plus 360 Sprint Car teams in the greater New York State Region. Add in 360 Sprints from Central Pennsylvania and local 305 racers and it promises to be an exciting show.
As part of Outlaw Speedway’s block buster announcements made recently, Tyler Siri also went into depth on the all new Outlaw Speedway TV which he says will be available to viewers when he swings open the gates for his sixth season as the owner of the Yates County Facility.
“Having our own Pay Per View TV is something that I have wanted to do.  The track has had a wonderful working relationship with DirttrackDigest.TV over the past year, but this is strictly a business decision and I want to take Outlaw Speedway TV to a whole new level.  So, I will be purchasing my own tv cameras and hire full time people to handle all the camera work and production including two in car cameras and a drone incorporated into speed shot cameras as well as other stationary cameras.  Part of my plan is to have driver interviews in the pit area after qualifying heat wins and with all this, I will be able to sell marketing packages.”
Siri did go onto say that, “This is something I want to try on my own and incorporate some ideas that I have into the program.  In addition, with a very distinct possibility we will not have fans in the stands in NY again in 2021 we will have a huge viewing audience for those that choose not to enter the pit area and see the action first hand.”
Pay per view will be available on a nightly basis at the same coast as last year at $19.95.
To round out the list of other additions at the speedway, Siri announced that eight new pit towers will be constructed during the off season along with an all new Outlaw Speedway Saloon which will also be located pit side.
“We currently have seven towers in the pit area that are rented yearly.  Drivers, car owners and sponsors are always pressuring me about added tower space in the pit area where they can relax and bring their wives, kids and friends.  With that we will add an additional eight all of which will have a fabulous view of the track.”
It should be noted that within six hours of the word being posted on Facebook about the new towers, they were all sold out.
Siri and his crew are also building a pit area Saloon which will be for the luxury of those in towers along with viewers in the pit area grandstand seating area.
“We have adjusted the existing pit bleachers along the back straight.  Moved them down towards turn three, raised them up and incorporated another section of bleachers that we transported from the turn one area along the front straight.  This will allow much more seating area in the pit area with an awesome view of the track. We are also constructing a 32’ x 36’ Outlaw Speedway Saloon right next to the pit bleachers.  This will also have a beautiful view of the track and will include an observation platform on the roof. This is a tough business.  We only get to do this about twenty days or so a year.  Throw in a few rainouts and it becomes even less.  We need to make every race count as it is a short season”.
In his closing remarks Siri summed it up like this.
“I have spent a lot of time figuring out how 2021 can be our best season yet.  On average a regular sprint feature at this track runs off in as little as eight to ten minutes and that has been accomplished on numerous occasions over the years.  Those guys do not mess around! No doubt adding the sprints to our existing program will make it an awesome year at the track when you include them in with all our other great classes. I’m in high hopes of a fabulous year in 2021”.
Siri is confident his experienced staff will make it an exciting night for everyone, and he is more than ready to get the season underway.  Also, Outlaw Speedway has what many consider one of the best Fire and Rescue Teams in the region.  These men and women are top notch and the tracks fire apparatus is geared up for just about any situation.  Gasoline or Methanol.
As mentioned earlier the complete 2021 Outlaw Speedway Schedule of Events is nearly completed and will be available online within the coming week.  The Annual Spring, Summer and Fall Nationals will be a part of the schedule as well as the Annual Dutch Hoag Triple 7’s Weekend to wrap up 2021.  Sandwiched in between will be the traditional Fireworks Extravaganza along with NASCAR Night at the track.
Siri did mention that the Tony Stewart All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprints and the World of Outlaw Late Model Series will not be racing at any New York State race venues in 2021, however he anticipates them both incorporated in the Outlaw 2022 schedule.

SUPER MATT SHEPPARD CLAIMS 2020 OUTLAW SPEEDWAY REGULAR SEASON MODIFIED TRACK TITLE.
Sheppard’s Championship makes it his third overall title in the last four seasons.
Comfort, Sobotka, Whritenour, Smith, Ellison and Bunn all win 2020 track titles.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY) When Matt Sheppard decided to make the Outlaw Speedway his Friday night race place some four years ago, it immediately became a foregone conclusion that the Waterloo, NY native would win his fair share of feature events and track championships at the popular Yates County facility. Afterall, the second generation pilot has been a success story since his early days in go-karts along with competition in upstart divisions including Youth Bandits, Sportsman and 358 Modifieds before graduating into the premier class in the Northeast, that being the Big Block Modified Division.

In his inaugural campaign at Outlaw Speedway in 2017, Super Matt teamed up with standout driver/car owner, Vic Coffey who fielded a machine for Sheppard.  The duo was an immediate success winning multiple feature events along with the “17” Outlaw Speedway Track Championship.  A run of bad luck kept Sheppard from going back to back in 2018 in a year which found AJ Slideways, Alan Johnson bagging the title after winning a tie breaker with 2016 Outlaw Speedway Modified Track Champ, Hurricane Steve Paine.

Sheppard would bounce back in 2019 after an amicable parting of the ways with Coffey and the Sweeteners Plus operation as Super Matt formed his own small block race team that would compete fulltime in the highly competitive Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified Division at Outlaw Speedway.  In dominating fashion Sheppard would go on to the 2019 title and back it up in the 2020 COVID-19 19 abbreviated season which began in early June and completed in late August and with this year’s championship that makes three in the last four seasons.  Considering the high-profile drivers and topnotch equipment that competes weekly at Outlaw Speedway it is without question that Matt Sheppard is the class of the field.
Besides AJ Slideways Johnson and Hurricane Paine others have won feature events over the past several seasons including track owner/promoter, Bossman Tyler Siri along with his teammate and hired gun, The Doctor Danny Johnson.  Siri’s son, Jordan has shown signs of brilliance in a third Tyler Siri team car along with a host of others including local favorite, Brady Fultz.  Cory Costa has been able to find victory lane at Outlaw on a couple of occasions over the past five seasons and Kyle Coffey has visited victory lane as well.  Numerous others including the likes of Ron Cartwright Jr., Jim LaRock, Justin Wright and Eldon Payne are all well capable of hitting paydirt.

But it has all come down to the man they call Super Matt and for good reason.  With marketing partners that most would die for and a dedicated pit crew led by DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame Mechanic, Randy Kisacky, Sheppard has a well-rounded group surrounding him including wife Bethanne.
Let us not forget that Matt Sheppard also has a background in engineering making him not only a great driver but also a great thinker when it comes to dealing with geometry and balance in a race car.
His nine trips to victory lane at Outlaw Speedway was almost five times that of any other competitor during the Regular Point Season as Alan Johnson claimed a pair of feature wins as did Steve Paine.  A midseason Bounty was placed on Sheppard by track owner, Siri in an attempt to entice more invaders to take a shot at beating Super Matt as well as adding an incentive for any track regular to upend the potent 9s machine.  It all was to no avail as Sheppard could not be stopped while running at the end of a regular thirty lap feature and when it was all said and done, Tyler Siri presented Matt Sheppard with the $2,000 Bounty as a show of good faith for his spectacular championship season.
AJ Slideways, Alan Johnson was second in the final regular season point standings followed by brother Doctor Danny Johnson.  Kyle Coffey continues to impress with his best Outlaw Speedway point finish by nailing down the fourth spot while Hurricane Steve Paine rounded out the top five-point finishers.

In addition to Matt Sheppard’s Championship Title in the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified’s two Sportsman Modified Classes compete weekly at Outlaw including the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman Division along with the Hoosier Tire shod Sportsman Class.  Two seasons ago Siri decided to take the American Racer Tire Sportsman Division and add on the Hoosier Tire Class allowing drivers to compete in either or both divisions.  Numerous drivers and teams took the challenge by racing on both tire compounds while others decided to focus on just one tire brand.

Horseheads, NY resident, Ajay Potrzebowski was poised to claim the American Racer Tire Class Title, however veteran racer and former Track Champion, Karl Comfort had other ideas and was able to win the 2020 Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman Track Championship backing up his 2017 title.  The top five point finishers in the class were all within striking distance of winning the championship on the last double point race of the Regular Point Season, but it was a late season surge by Comfort that got him in position to win the whole enchilada after a sluggish start to the 2020 campaign.  Potrzebowski did lead the way in feature wins during the Regular Season with four with Will Shields bagging a pair.  Single feature wins went to veteran driver, Dale Welty along with young guns Zach Sobotka, Billy Paine, Alex Payne and JT Sperring.  Champion Comfort picked up just one feature event which came late in the season, but it was that win that gave momentum to KC in claiming the track title.

Potrzebowski did wind up second in the point standings followed by 2018 American Racer Tire Champ, Chris Fisher.  Fourth was Will Shields as Zach Sobotka completed the top five in points.
Zach Sobotka was one of many that would compete in each of the Sportsman Divisions on a weekly basis during the 2020 season and by virtue of four feature wins he picked up his first ever track title at Outlaw Speedway.  Like the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman Division before them the Hoosier Tire Sportsman could boast a who’s who list of top pilots including the likes of Tommy Collins who picked up three feature wins during the season as did third generation driver, Alex Payne who competed in a mind blowing three open wheel modified divisions during the 2020 season.  2019 Hoosier Tire Track Champion, Will Shields also visited victory lane on three different occasions, but when it was all said and done Sobotka won the title by a wide margin over Collins, Payne, Shields and Zach George who completed the top five in the final Regular Season Point Standings.

It was well documented that the 2019 Stans No Tubes Track Champion, Dylan Cecce would not be competing full time during the 2020 season.  Cecce was able to upend perennial Street Stock favorite, Glen Whritenour to claim his first title at Outlaw, but with Cecce in semi-retirement, Whritenour went to the whip early in the season, totally dominated the class and like Matt Sheppard in the Modified Division, GW also had a bounty placed on his head for any driver that could take him down while he was still running at the end of the 20 lap feature go.  Talk about two veterans that shared a season with nearly identical stats as both Sheppard and Whritenour were within striking distance of double digit feature wins and both were given the bounty money by Tyler Siri for running the table during the season half of the year.  GW did however have one up on Super Matt as Whritenour had a six-race win streak during the middle part of the season while the best Sheppard could do was five in a row starting on week two thru week six.  Whritenour ended the year with nine feature wins as did Sheppard.  Quinn Sutherland opened the season with a win and CJ Guererri found victory lane on week two.  From there it was all Glen Whritenour as the Jasper, NY veteran was only stopped on two other occasions by Jake Karlnoski and Jared Hill.  GW won the title going away making it three titles in the last four seasons including the career season he had in 2018 when he did the double by winning not only the Stan’s No Tubes Street Stock Track Championship, but he also went on to claim his first and most likely last IMCA Modified Track Title at Outlaw Speedway.  Guererri did put up a valiant fight, but Whritenour’s point advantage was insurmountable as CJ had to settle for second in the final point tally.  Karlnoski, Aksel Jensen and Hill rounded out the top fine in points.

The numbers were down a bit this season at Outlaw Speedway in the nationally sanctioned IMCA Modified Division, however it did not deter from fierce competition throughout the field including a battle for the track title that went right down to the last lap of the last Regular Season feature event on August 28, 2020.  2018 Track Champion, Rodney Morgan had the most feature wins with six, but it was Brad Smith with just one trip to victory lane that picked up his first Outlaw Speedway IMCA Track Title.  Other feature winners included Shawn Bruce and Kevin Smith with two each as Lamphere and Spalding each had one win during the season.  When the double checkered flags fell on the final point race of the Regular Season, Bad Brad Smith had won by just a scant four points over Kevin Smith and by ten over Morgan.  Veteran driver, Dick in the Dirt Rich Karlnoski finished fourth while Bumps Scutt claimed fifth in the final IMCA Modified point standings.
In the companion IMCA Hobby Stock Division total domination would be an understatement as with nine feature wins to his credit, the same win total as Whritenour and Sheppard, Wayne Ellison picked up his first ever Outlaw Speedway Track Championship.  Marc Minutolo had ruled the roost in 2018 and 2019 racking up numbers similar to Ellison, but the big fella just could not find the magic that led him to two consecutive track titles as Ellison was just too tough to handle.  Minutolo did wind up with three wins during the Regular Season as Joshua Oles was the only other driver in the class to hit pay dirt.  The final points shook out like this with Ellison holding a commanding lead over Jamie Eldredge Jr., Justin Eldredge, Bruce Kinner and Jeremy Trank.

Last but certainly not least the Might 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks had a new face claiming the track title as two time an defending Mini Stock Track Champion, Adam Austin decided to take the year off to spend more time with his young family.  Austin was without question the class of the field in 2018 and 2019, but with his departure it left the door wide open for a new champ.  Enter Jeremy Bunn who with his four feature wins was crowned the 2020 Mini Stock Track Champion.  However, it was anything but a walk in the park as Bunn had a host of other top drivers in the division all over him like bees on a hive.  Outlaw Speedway mixes both front and rear wheel drive four-cylinder machines into one class and it makes for plenty of exciting action.  Veteran driver, Ray Hyer with a pair of feature wins came up a bit short in the final point tally finishing second to Bunn while father Scott Lehman got the best of son Scott Jr by just two points as they claimed third and fourth in the final point standings.  Bob Doolittle with four wins rounded out the top five.  Lehman Jr did bag a pair of feature wins as Kenneth Evans was victorious on one occasion.

Over all thirteen feature events were run in 2020 at Outlaw Speedway as the Regular Season got started on June 5 and concluded on August 28 with the annual double point season championship races.
Congratulations to all competitors.

As of this writing it is still unclear if a 2020 Outlaw Speedway Regular Season Track Banquet will take place due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic along with stringent NYS protocol which includes no mass gatherings.  Traditionally the Outlaw Banquet takes place in late January so a lot could change between now and that time.
For the first time in the five-year history of the Outlaw Speedway, track owner/promoter, Tyler Siri did host a Fall Series beginning on September 11 and concluding on October 23.  In an upcoming story a complete rundown of all feature winners and top point finishers will be covered.

The Hill Speedway in Monroeton, Pa. closed out a very successful season on Friday night with the help of long time motorsports supporter and loyal marketing partner Snell Metalfab. Track management had tentatively scheduled racing past last weeks Championship night, but due to the weather, the shortage of competitors due to conflicts with end of season shows at other venues, and the fact that local school sports are opening up, the decision to end the season was made. The awesome support throughout the summer from fans, sponsors, and competitors alike is much appreciated, and The Hill looks forward to a bigger and better sesson in 2021.
The chilly temps and low car count had little effect on the excitement generated on the track Friday night as side by side racing and last lap passes were abundent through all seven classes.
Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinder Champion made it ten wins this season, and eight in a row. Much of the race featured a five car battle at the front of the field.
There were three different leaders in the first half of the Rear Wheel Drive Four Cylinder feature, but after lap ten, it was the Larry Colton show. After winning two previous features, the veteran ended up second in points in his  ..division.
Bobby Maynard ended his season with a win in the Pure Stock division. Maynard stepped out to the lead at the drop of the green, and paced the field for the entire twenty laps.
Dustin Maynard was the third different leader of the Street Stock feature when he took command on the fifth lap. He fought off numerous challenges to grab his second feature win of the season.
2018 Champion Gary Lamphere has been picture perfect the past couple of weeks and this week was no different as he recorded his third feature win in a row to close out The Hill season in the IMCA Style Modifieds.
The new Crate Late Model division has seen five different winners in their debut season, but Chad Homan has has owned Victory Lane since the end oof June. He put another check mark in the win column Friday night.
Snell Metalfab Crate Sportsman Champion Rich Talada started mid pack , but by the sixth lap he had taken the top spot and hung on to win his fifth feature of the season.

Big-Block Mod Main To Sheppard, Wight Claims Coveted Canandaigua Crown
Guererri, Bay, Pangrazio, Burnell also claim 1st LOLR titles in 2020 regular-season finale

Canandaigua, NY – Sept. 5, 2020 – Tom Skibinski, Land of Legends Raceway PR

2020 was certainly a season of firsts around the motorsports circuit and in most fitting fashion five first-time champions were crowned at Land Of Legends Raceway on Clar's Collision & Honeoye Auto Parts Night.

Double points were on the line in the final regular-season 'Saturday Spectacular' and Larry Wight made every one count as a fourth-place feature race finish locked up his first title in the headline Pepsi Big-Block Modified division.

“(Title) means a lot, so much history around this place,” remarked Wight, 27, after continuing his most memorable first full campaign circling Canandaigua's historic half-miler on the Ontario Co. Fairgrounds. Despite any restrictions put in place by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the Phoenix NY pilot ran wide-open on every occasion, parking his potent #99L FX Caprara Honda-Tracey Road Equipment/Bicknell entry in victory lane five times in the rolled back 12-race schedule.

“We actually planned on running tracks other than Fulton on Saturdays this year even if it opened, focusing more on our Big-Block program. We started out the season really strong here and kinda used Canandaigua for our baseline package. My teammates have done well here in the past so we're fortunate to continue that success and get the championship, even with most of our wins coming in non-point events.”

Joining Wight with high point honors in '20 were Matt Guererri (Speed Connection Sportsman), Alysha Bay (Mike Emhof Motorsports 305 Sprint Car), Josh Pangrazio (Street Stock) and Tyler Burnell (Hobby Stock).

Accompanied by multi-time Modified points champ Matt Sheppard, Bay and Pangrazio punctuated their success with return appearances to victory lane, while Garrison Krentz (Spt) and Marc Minutolo (Hob) savored their first checkered flags of the season in wine country. Subbing for his son Tyler, open-wheel veteran Rich Vinson brought the curtain down on the Sept. 5 showdown with a dominating performance in the Sportsman B-Main.

Needing a finish of sixth-place or better in 35-lap Big-Block feature following qualifying heats, 17th-starting Wight struggled early in traffic before bolting from 10th to fifth on a lap 18 restart then settling for his ninth top-5 finish to secure the season championship.

“Finally got a restart on the top, those restarts on the bottom we just couldn't catch a break,” lamented 'Lightning Larry,' who bested 2018 track champ Erick Rudolph in the final points tally, 495-441, after dueling with Tim Fuller much of the way. “We just needed to get that top side restart to take advantage of everybody choked up on the bottom. Got the one run and a guy didn't want me there and put us into the concrete barrier and lost six spots, so we had to come back after that. Just came a little bit too late.”

“We had a good car, just got used up a little bit but we were able to hold on. Tough to see Tim fall out of the race but we had just cleared him so its not like we got by him breaking there,” added Wight, who arrived late Saturday after a broken air valve on his own truck forced quick repair work back at his shop north of Syracuse.

Outside pole-sitter Eldon Payne Jr. led in the early stages before north country regular Billy Dunn moved out front taking the high line on a lap eight restart. Sheppard found his lucky number Saturday night, charging high around Dunn on lap 16 after starting 16th, eventually out-distancing Jimmy Phelps for his 16th win of 2020 to collect the $2,000 top prize.

“We didn't really get going there in the beginning, got jammed up, myself and Timmy Sears, must have passed each other about 10 times,” relayed nine-time and reigning LOLR points king Sheppard following his 80th career (5th all-time) Big-Block triumph in Canandaigua. It was his second win in only six starts after opening the shortened season contending downstate at Orange Co. Fair Speedway in Middletown.

“Got a really good restart and caught a break, not sure what lap but went from about sixth to second there. Just had a really good car, could roll the bottom in (turns) three and four, and really felt good rolling around the top. This place was awfully fast. Just thankful (car) stayed together and we got back to victory lane here. Close a couple weeks ago, Larry and I had a helluva battle. He's been really fast here all year, congrats to him. You know, this #9s is still pretty fast here too,” smiled Sheppard, as the Waterloo driver posed alongside his potent Hurlock Auto&Speed-Westmoreland Golf Glub-St.Lawrence Radiology/Bicknell machine.

With Dunn out front, Sheppard methodically made his way to the front of the field until blasting from sixth into the runner-up spot on a pivotal lap 13 restart. 'Super Matt' tracked down Dunn and used another restart on lap 16 to forge the final lead change; at the time Fuller held down third while Wight finally cracked the Top-10 and  a quick calculation had both drivers tied in the points chase.

Yet after Wight rocketed into fifth at the halfway mark, Fuller failed to improve his position and when he slowed with rear-end issues on lap 31 to incur the seventh and final caution period, any title hopes slipped away handing Wight the title.

Sheppard went on to score a comfortable eight car-length victory over Phelps followed by Dunn, Wight and Alan Johnson, who vaulted into third in the final point standings as the only driver to log all top-10 feature finishes during the season.

Wight now adds his name to the list of 10 other legendary drivers sharing 44 track titles since founder Glenn Donnelly launched the DIRTcar era at Canandaigua in 1977. Steve Paine owns a Big-Block best 11 championships followed by Sheppard (9), Bob McCreadie (6), Alan Johnson (5), Will Cagle (4), Danny Johnson (4), Joe Plazek (2), Chuck Akulis, Billy Decker and Rudolph.

While Wight eventually authored a landslide victory in the final Modified tally, pursuit of the overall Sportsman title ultimately ended in a 'dead heat' between Guererri and Zach Sobotka, with both drivers matched at 453 markers after 13 events. The tie-breaker went to Gibbz as the Waterloo warrior won a division-best five features compared to a pair for first-year track regular Sobotka from Parish.

“I was car counting before we even started the race,” exclaimed Guererri, who rallied in the closing laps to earn the tie before being awarded his first track title. “Once you get some green flag laps you kinda forget about it for awhile but at the end gotta be thankful for that last caution when I was able to pass a few more cars.”

“Didn't think I was gonna get there, (Sobotka) was a little bit better than I was tonight and could pick his way to the front. He could maneuver better than I could, just thankful we had some cautions there at the end when I was able to get a few more guys,” added Guererri, after steering his #12G Tradition Automotive Group-Product 9-Mohawk Northeast/Bicknell car to the elusive title.

While Guererri filed into 18th on the 26-car grid, Western New York traveler Krentz had less ground to make up starting outside row four. Sam Hoxie built a commanding lead to open the 25-lapper with Cody Manitta and Chris Mackey contesting for runner-up laurels early on.

Krentz jockeyed into the show position through a handful of laps while top point-getters Sobotka (12th), Guererri (13th) and Kevin Ridley (20th) had their work cut out with three and four-wide racing filling the half-mile oval further back. Krentz grabbed second from Manitta on lap 12 and only needed three more times around to overtake Hoxie, who caught the berm low between turns one and two to relinquish the point with 10 to go.

By lap 15, now Krentz showed the way in his no. 56 WNY Amateur Sports-Mark's Plumbing-ConEquip/Bicknell mount as Sobotka improved to eighth while Guererri was mired in 11th in search of a faster line around. When brother Nick Guererri slowed on lap 22 to bring out the last yellow flag, fourth-running Sobotka was just three laps from the outright title as Guererri could only manage eighth.

Back under green, Krentz continued to set an unbeatable pace yet the order in his rear-view mirror fluctuated just as fast. With three to go Sobotka moved into third and Guererri pulled into sixth, then in a last-gasp bid down low stole fifth from Dalton Martin on the white flag lap to send scorers reeling and point-keepers refiguring in the dramatic countdown.

“Its about time, been fighting all year and working so hard, it finally paid off,” stated an emotional Krentz, 29, after the Pendleton pilot became the third first-time Sportsman victor at LOLR this summer, emerging as the 116th different winner since the class debuted at the fairgrounds in 1987. “Its just me and my dad so it feels good to finally get here.”

“Changed the shock package and some springs around, kind of went back to the basics. Usually we're not as good here when its tacky but it played out tonight. We had a decent starting position and that helped out. Couldn't do this without all my sponsors, can't thank everybody for helping out,” added Krentz, who climbed from seventh to fourth on the final points chart.

Towing in from Rome NY, Mackey finished a season-high second in only his sixth start, shadowed by Sobotka with Kane Bristol keeping Guererri at bay across the stripe to round out the front-five.

“Hats off to (LOLR promoter) Paul Cole for putting his neck on the line and giving us a place to race here every Saturday,” said Guererri, who went winless last season before nearly doubling his career total in 2020. “Came here with my uncle in 2007, now to be here and do this, its like a dream come true.”

“Can't thank everybody enough that helped me along the way. They've all been so supportive, especially my wife. I've been a bear this week, haven't slept and been miserable, but (championship) is all worth it in the end,” added the relieved champion, after folllowing in the tire tracks of his still active uncle, Paul Guererri, the '07 LOLR Sportsman champion and all-time division winner with 45 checkered flags.

Like Guererri, Bay kept her winning ways in the family, taking her track-high third 305 win of the '20 campaign en route to earning season-long honors. Yet the gal from Gorham established one other standard never to be matched by her father Darryl Ruggles, the all-time LOLR sprint winner (39) and five-time titlist, as she emerged as the first-ever female points champion in 57 years of auto racing at the fairgrounds.

“The way I won (title) this year probably means more than winning tonight,” figured Bay, who gave herself an early birthday present before turning 27 on Monday. She was the only champion to overcome a deficit entering the final points program on Saturday, finishing ahead of her father and last week's leader Bobby Parrow in the final standings.

“I started out the season with two blown motors, it was pretty rough. So to come away with the championship means a lot. Was trying to breathe at the end. Didn't know where the 2nd-place car was behind me so I just ran it hard all the way.”

Bay pulled the pole for the 20-lap A-Main and from there her 'hot pink' #48A Batzel's Auto Service-Danny Willmes Enterprises-Ruggles World of Auto Body/Eagle sprinter  would not be touched. Looking for his first career MEM 305 win at LOLR, runner-up Steve Glover kept it close most of the way yet Bay held on for a decisive four car-length victory in the non-stop caution-free affair.

Defending track champ Ruggles' third-place finish was good enough to move into second on the points chart while Kyle Pierce and Trevor Years completed the top-five in the six minute main. Holding a four-point advantage over Bay entering the finale, mechanical problems forced winged veteran Parrow to the pits on lap 18 while running in the top-10.

Pangrazio made his first full season at Canandaigua a repeat of his run the previous year closer to home at Genesee Speedway in Batavia, with the full-fender chauffeur posting a multitude of feature wins and earning the track points in convincing fashion.

“Been working real hard, able to get a little bit faster every time out,” noted Pangrazio, whose victory lane speech revealed that his sleek no. 7 Skyline RV Sales & Service-Houseman Refrigeration-Impressions Concrete Ford Mustang had already been sold leaving plans for 2021 undetermined despite a new car on order. “This place is pretty fast and there's a lot of stiff competition here. I learned a lot as a driver and set-up wise.”

His closest rivals may have learned just as much over the summer: whenever Pangrazio is out front in the feature he has a fifty percent chance of taking the trophy. In 10 Street Stock features staged at LOLR, the Oakfield ace scored five victories, finishing in the front-five on all but one occasion.

Three-time winner Jimmy Grant finished runner-up on Saturday and is the lone driver to place among the top-5 in every show. All-time Canandaigua stock car winner Mike Welch won the remaining two events and salvaged third in the latest 20-lap feature. And its no surprise that Pangrazio (568), Grant (538) and Welch (528) also ended the season 1-2-3 in points.

Bob Buono jumped out to an early advantage with 18 entries filling the field. A turn four scuffle on the opening circuit resulted in Pat Hobbs getting turned around and eighth starting Welch moved in quickly to challenge Buono on the lap two restart.

Starting ninth on the grid, Pangrazio wasted little time charging to the front although his bid for the top prize almost came to an abrupt halt when Marc Minutolo suffered a broken driveshaft on lap five right in front of the points leader. Yet on the ensuing restart, third-running Pangrazio ducked under Buono in a drag race down the front chute and exiting turn one grabbed a lead he would hold for the duration.

Pangrazio cruised out to a three-quarters straightaway lead at the halfway point and 10 laps later stretched it out to 7.8-sec. at the line. Grant, Welch and Buono maintained their distance while Jared Hill completed the final top-5.

“Dodged a bullet a couple times out there tonight, just have to count my blessings,” divulged Pangrazio, an eight-time heat winner, who led at one time in nearly every event for a total of 105 laps. “Almost tangled with the #122 car going into (turn) three, then the #25 (Minutolo) in turn two and got hooked up with the #93 coming out of four. Our bumpers locked but kept it straight, have to be thankful for that.”

“Have a lot of people to thank, my girlfriend Rebecca, my mom, brother Eric and  especially my buddy Josh. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't be doing this, he works harder than I do,” Pangrazio added.

Press Releases and Results / The Hill Speedway Results - September 4th
« on: September 13, 2020, 11:46:58 AM »
The Hill Speedway closed out their points season Friday night with over a hundred cars in the pits, and a near record number of fans in the spectator area. Lamphere Truck Parts of Monroeton joined with Space Mountain Fireworks to provide the fireworks in the sky, with the season championship fireworks on the track providing it's own brand of excitement. While this was the final points night at The Hill, it should be noted that track management has decided to continue Friday night racing on through the end of September.

Matt Browning earned his seventh feature win in a row, the ninth of his season, to claim his second Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinder season championship in a row. Twenty cars took the green flag in the 30 lap special feature with Jake Lamphere setting the early pace. Greg McKernan took over the top spot for the next four laps when 2018 Champion Adam Delgrosso took the lead. Delgrosso held off Browning until the midpoint, and kept close to the leader for the remainder of the event, but had to settle for second at the checkered flag. Josh Bailey was involved in a yellow on the eighth lap, but smoothly drove back through the field to record third. Ryan Wood was fourth, with Ken Evans finishing fifth. Heats were won by Ryan Wood, Greg McKernan,  and Adam Delgrosso.
FEATURE FINISH: Matt Browning,  Adam Delgrosso,  Josh Bailey,  Ryan Wood,  Ken Evans II, Mike Wilcox,  John Maynard, Jake Lamphere, Dakota Decker, Greg McKernan,  Austin Howard, Patrick Brown, Gavin Maryott, Tim Johnson,  Steve Castle,  Greg Slater, Tim McAdam,  Dave Maxwell, Randy Lane (DNS), Lou Sprawls (DNS)

A jam up in the first lap of the Pure Stock feature put pole starter Bob Maynard and second in points Cole Burgess to the back of the field , and points leader Mike Morse out front.  Maynard made a determined charge and by the seventh lap he had made it back to third, taking over second on lap eight. Maynard shadowed the leader for much of the race, until in heavy lap traffic, he bid and won the lead on the twenty third circuit. Burgess powered into third with five to go, as Morse challenged to regain the top spot. On the final lap, Maynard left the bottom lane open in turn three, and Morse drove to the bottom. The pair made contact and stayed together through turns three and four, continuing contact all the way to the finish line. The pair separated momentarily after the checkered flag, but Maynard steered into the Morse car again in turn one, causing major damage to both cars and ending with the Morse machine on top of Maynard's hood. Morse was penalised for the aggressive initial contact by placing him as the last car on the lead lap in the finishing order, and Maynard was deleted from the finishing order. Cole Burgess was awarded the win, with Jerred Dennis second and Josh Parker third. Heats were won by Morse and Parker.
FEATURE FINISH: Cole Burgess, Jerred Dennis, Josh Parker, Mike Morse, Leo Elridge, Zack Kriner, Tim Perham, Dalton Decker,  Nathan Kriner, Josh Vanderpool, Brad Chilson.

Going into the IMCA Style Modified main event, 2019 Champ Jake Maynard held a slim six point lead over Keith Jack Lamphere. The expected battle for the championship didnt materialize, however, as Maynard was out of the event by the ninth lap with suspension damage.  Lamphere took over the second spot about the same time, and finished the race there, which secured the Championship. Gary Lamphere powered into the top spot on the fifth lap and fought off all challenges to record his second win of the season. Brad Sites took over tut hird with five laps remaining and led Eddie Sites and J.W. Lamphere across the finish. Qualifying heats went to Eddie Sites and Keith Jack Lamphere.
FEATURE FINISH:   Gary Lamphere, Keith Jack Lamphere, Brad Sites, Eddie Sites,  J.W. Lamphere, Doug Lantz, Jason Sullivan, Ray McClure, A.J. Hunsinger,  Harry Ely, Matt Benjamin, Keith Lamphere, Jake Maynard, Logan Terry.

Chad Homan has owned Victory Lane in the Crate Late Models, since making his debut back in June,  and this one was no different as he cruised to his seventh win of the season. Steve LaBarron kept the pressure on throughout, but settled for second. Second in the night's feature was good enough for LaBarron to win the points championship ,however, as the final tally shows a tie between LaBarron and Darin Horton, with the tiebreaker being the number of feature wins. Kurt Stebbins finished third, Horton ffg ourth and Mike Epler fifth. Homan also won the lone heat race.
FEATURE FINISH:   Chad Homan, Steve LaBarron, Kurt Stebbins, Darrin Horton, Mike Epler, Ernie Martin,  Jared Keeney, Joe Lane

The points gap for the Rear Wheel Drive Four Cylinders has be close all season and only 17 points separated A. J. Lane and Larry Colton going into the final points feature. Colton got to the lead on lap seven, with Lane in pursuit, and Lane took over on the eleventh lap. Colton kept the pressure on, but mechanic as l problems dropped him from competition with two laps to go. Randy Mathews Jr. took over the second spot with Brett Gleason third, Eric Ellsworth fourth,  and Zack Bruce fifth. A.J. Lane and Scott Bump won heats.
FEATURE FINISH:   A.J.Lane, Randy Mathews Jr, Brett Gleason, Eric Ellsworth, Zack Bruce, Brett Neally, Billy Groover, Larry Colton, Shane Rockwell, Andrew Collins, Scott Bump,Trevor Belcher, Shawn Gowin.

Going into the final points feature for the Snell Metalfab Crate Sportman. The top three were separated by less than 20 points... after the checkered flag waved, the top three were separated by only four points, and there was a new leader. Rich Talada turned a second place feature finish into a one point lead for the points championship. Dalton Maynard took the lead from Jason Benjamin on the fourth lap, with Rich Powell and Talada making it a four car group for most of the race. Talada pressured from second, but could not overcome Maynard. Powell did get around Benjamin,  but the points leader needed to finish ahead of Talada to lock in the title.  Conner Brown gained two spots in the last five laps to finish fifth in the thirty lap special event. Powell, Talada, and Brown each won qualifying races.
FEATURE FINISH:  Dalton Maynard, Rich Talada,  Rich Powell,  Jason Benjamin, Connor Brown, Christian Zschoche, Isabel Barron, Jordan Bacon, Kinser Hill, Eric Jensen, Mathew Sullivan, Lee Sharpsteen, Reese Hackett, Chris Clemens, Tony Harris, Braden Buchanan,  Quentin Buchanan.

Last year, Earl Zimmer won a lot of races on his way to the points title,  but this year he did it with consistent finishes and never won a points feature. A solid fourth place finish locked him into the points championship at the end of thirty hard fought laps. Kurt Stebbins hauled over two hours to make his second appearance at The Hill this year, and he made it count, taking the lead from Dustin Maynard on lap four and setting the pace all the way to the finish. Maynard held the runner up spot and Dan Force finished third, and Lou Sharpstown followed Zimmer across the line to record fifth. Mike Koser, Dustin Maynard, and Bobby Maynard won heat races.
FEATURE FINISH:   Kurt Stebbins,  Dustin Maynard,  Dan Force,  Earl Zimmer, Lou Sharpsteen, Austin Allen, Butch Green, Ben Hulslander, Dylan Hinkley, Trevor William's, Mike Koser, Jakub Ingham, Rick Davis, Eddie McKernan, Thomas Moon, Dave Stalker, Bill Tice(DNS) Bob Maynard(DNS)

The final event of the night was a special ten lap match race between Keith Jack Lamphere in an IMCA Style Modified and Rich Talada  in his Crate Sportsman. The race created $2100  to a local charity and was won by Talada.

The Hill will continue hosting non points races for it's seven regular divisions through the end of September, weather permitting. Gates open on Friday nights at 5pm, with practice starting at 6:30, and racing scheduled for 7:00. Unique in that it has no grandstands, the hillside overlooking the track is groomed and maintained for groups to lay out blankets or set up lawn chairs. There are also park and view spots from turn four around to turn two that are available for a nominal fee. The Hill normally runs every Friday night from Spring til September. The track is located just a couple miles off route 414, at the intersection of Dunn Hill Road and Banks Road in Monroeton PA.  For further info check their Facebook page, or their web page at www.thehillspeedway.com

HURRICANE STEVE PAINE PICKS UP THE WIN IN FIRST EVENT OF THE OUTLAW SPEEDWAY FALL SERIES.
Donnie Lawson and Alex Payne take Sportsman features.  Guererri in Street Stocks, Minutolo wins Hobby Stocks and Webster takes Mini Stock feature.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) After a one week break it was back to business at the Outlaw Speedway as track owner, Tyler Siri opened the facility to round one of the all new Fall Series at the Yates County facility.
With one hundred-five machines in the pit area representing the six classes of competition the Hoosier Tire Sportsman Division was the first feature to take to the recently widened and resurfaced Outlaw Speedway for their twenty-five-lap event.  Third generation pilot, Alex Payne picked right back up where he left off by claiming the feature win, his fourth in the class during the 2020 season.  Payne, who was also victorious two weeks ago before the break found the new surface much to his liking as he stormed into the lead from his inside row two starting position and never looked back in claiming the win.  Payne, who is one of several drivers that races in both Sportsman Divisions has found the extra seat time valuable in accelerating his young career along and with one win earlier this season on the American Racer Tires shows his diversification on both tire brands.  Payne was followed across the line by Andrew Jacobson who in a rare Outlaw Speedway appearance followed Payne thru traffic from his third row starting position to claim the runner up spot while 2020 Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Track Champion, Karl Comfort bolted on the Hoosier Tires, started eighth and came home for third at the finish.  AJ Lloyd had perhaps the drive of the event by starting twelfth and advanced eight positions claiming fourth while Stacy Jackson lined up tenth and rounded out the top five.
In the companion American Racer Tire Sportsman Division presented by Sunrise Insulation Donnie Lawson showed that he hasn’t lost his touch at Outlaw Speedway wheeling a Crate Sportsman machine as he moved into the lead from his third row starting spot and claimed the twenty-five-lap feature go.  The racing schoolteacher who resides in Addison, NY normally runs his Modified when coming to Outlaw, but on this night opted to compete in the Sportsman Division and it was a wise choice as he would claim the win.  Likewise, Kenny Peoples Jr., who also resides in Addison came well prepared and without racing at Outlaw since his win in last year’s Dutch Hoag Memorial Sportsman event finished right behind Lawson in the runner-up spot after lining up fourth on the opening grid. The back and forth, see saw battle between Lawson and Peoples wasn’t determined till late in the going with Lawson picking up the win.  One-time 2020 feature event winner, Billy Paine advanced nine positions from his outside row six starting position and rounded out the top three podium finishers at the double checkered flags.  Chris Fisher put on another steady performance to claim fourth while Ajay Potrzebowski Jr. ran with the lead pack all race long and rounded out the top five at the finish.
A top-notch field of some twenty-two machines lined up for the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified thirty lap feature event including a who’s who list of many high-profile drivers in the northeast. The going was as bit tough for the Mod Squad as a bone jarring wreck and subsequent extended red flag during the event eliminated many of the more dominate cars including those of Brady Fultz, Danny Johnson and Kyle Coffey.  Fultz had a left rear tire let go and from there it was madness as he was hit hard by no less than three other cars literally destroying the rear end of his potent #70 machine.  The Doctor, Danny Johnson suffered equally as much frontend damage on his modified.  Likewise, Coffey had irreparable damage and was done for the night.  In a separate incident, Super Matt Sheppard barrel rolled his machine several times entering the turn one area.  Although Sheppard’s car ended up on all four wheels, he too had significant damage to his #9s.  With many of the top teams out of the event it made The Hurricane, Steve Paine’s life a whole lot easier as he was well in front of any instances having drawn pill four and lined up in the second row at the start of the event.  In clean air Paine could pick and choose his lines and would go on to his third win of 2020 at the track that he once dominated during the 358 Modified. He was followed across the line by Ron Cartwright Jr. who had his best finish at the speedway in recent memory after having much early season success as a top five regular.  Cartwright lined up fifteenth at the start, stayed out of trouble and came home in the runner-up spot putting on perhaps the drive of the night.   Jim LaRock, piloting one of car owner Herbie Wright’s modifieds on this night as LaRock’s mount is down with engine woes finished third at the completion as he was chased across the line by Jordan Siri who raced with the leaders all event and came across the line in fourth.  Like Cartwright before him, Derrick Podsiadlo also lined up in the eighth starting row, avoided the big wreck and came home for his best finish of the 2020 campaign by rounding out the top five after a regular season full of nothing but problems and bad luck.
The Stan’s No Tubes Street Stocks has been the playground for 2020 Track Champion, Glen Whritenour who dominated the regular season action.  However, during the first event of the all new Outlaw Speedway Fall Series it was a different story for the man who won nine regular season feature events.  With GW drawing the third starting position it was a foregone conclusion that he would cruise to another win at the Yates County oval.  However, that was not the case as he had problems and wound up finishing deep in the field.  This left the door wide open for a host of other very capable drivers including June 12 feature winner, CJ Guererri who lined up sixth, moved to the front and never looked back in taking the victory in the twenty lap A Main event.  For Guererri it ended an exceptionally long dry spell as he was followed across the finish line by Jimmy Grant who had to start deep having lined up ninth in the fourteen-car field.  Like Grant, Kane Stebbins also started in the fifth row, put on a steady drive towards the front and wound up third.  Brandon Birdsell drew the pole position, ran with the lead pack the entire distance and finished fourth, but it was Quinn Sutherland who would wind up advancing the most positions.  The opening night winner lined up thirteenth at the start, moved nicely thru traffic and rounded out the top five at the finish.
The IMCA Hobby Stocks found track regular Jamie Eldredge Jr. and invader Jeredd Dennis bringing the fourteen-car field to the opening green flag.  Second row starter and three-time 2020 feature winner, Marc Minutolo wasted little time in moving to the front and from there the 2018/2019 Track Champion picked up the win in the twenty-lap thriller.  Dennis, a veteran of many different full fender classes during his career and a Woodhull Raceway Hobby Stock weekly competitor took full advantage of his outside pole starting spot and came away with the runner-up spot.  Shawn Lloyd lined up sixth at the start and advanced three spots to claim third at the finish as he was followed across the line by fourth place finisher Tyler Burnell.  Jeff Hand would put on the drive of the night as he advanced from the last starting row to round out the top finishers.
The Might 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks completed the Super Six feature events with the usual mix of both front and rear wheel machines. With the noticeable absence of top runners Bob Doolittle, Scott Lehman Jr. and recently crowned 2020 Class Champion, Jeremy Bunn it left the dance floor wide open to a potentially new winner.  At the completion of the twenty-lap main event it was a pair of new faces claiming the top two spots.  Josh Webster was able to get his first win of the season as he was followed across the line by Jack Ormsby who nailed the runner-up spot.  Jayson Smart advanced forward three positions to claim third while as he would be followed across the line by Travis Webster and Chris Force who finished fourth and fifth.
Congratulations to all competitors.
