My father was a regional manager for an industrial equipment company, and they transferred him to the Rochester office in late December of 1957, to start his new job assignment in January of 1958. I went to the fairgrounds race track for the first time that summer, 1958, and continued to go there regularly, until the track ceased operations. I seem to recall going to a "booked in" show in conjunction with the county fair, somewhere around 1969-70, and I think that it was the last race run there.
When it looked like the Rochester assignment would be a long term job for my father, he started looking for a house to purchase, and ironically, my parents first looked at some of the houses that were "popping up" off Pinnacle Road. I thought it was great, as the track wasn't all that far, but then their interests took a turn, and we wound up in East Irondequoit.
