Why Sunday races?
« on: July 16, 2009, 04:03:13 PM »
Just Curious, but what is the reason for these Sunday races? Both Chemung and SL2 have them this week. While I can see if the cup race was saturday night, and the tracks didn't want to have to compete against that, but why on a week where that isn't the case, and why 2 tracks with miles of each other. (I would blame SL2 for that, as Chemung has been scheduled much longer)

Anyway, can someone from one of the tracks chime in on this?

My understanding is that Skyview  has a special drags program on Sat. and they switched because of that.

Isn't there a ROC race either friday or saturday this week? I thought that was the reason for the sudden change ???

I think the better question is why do so many tracks have to run on Saturday nights?  I think it would be a lot better if more tracks ran their weekly shows one of the other 6 nights of the week.

RoC Modified Tour @ DTRP on Saturday.
George Decker Memorial 100 SST Tour @ Holland on Saturday.
Makes sense, just sucks the two tracks down that way keep going head-to-head.

Nope, no ROC Race. I guess it could be due to the drags....

As to why not other nights, I would say it has to do more with the racers than the fans. If you live more than an hour from the track, it would be VERY difficult to make it for an evening race. That includes Friday's too. I raced Chemung Last week Friday, and I had to leave work at 2 in the afternoon. ( I have a 2+ hour drive) That is bad enough, but if that was any day other than Friday, you also have to deal with getting home at midnight and making it to work in the morning.

If you are close to the track all of that is not a problem, but I think you would see a decrease in cars.

The biggest issue is that tracks need to synchronize schedules. Instead it seems a lot of times they try to compete with each other, instead of working with each other.

Anyway, back to my original post, Sundays, at least to me, are difficult. I, Like a lot of people go to church. I also think Sunday is "family day" for many, and this time of year, with graduation parties and such, it seems like Sundays would make for lower crowds.

But, what do i know, I am just a racer  ;D

Yes, it is the rescheduled race from June 20.  (the date has been set for like 3 weeks now though, not all-of-a-sudden)

SL 2 runs  at least two different classes than Chemung...
Real Mods and Late Models, so them having to change to Sunday because of the drags is no problem really...

Special Drag Show Saturday Night! This is a good thing because Shangrila will not be conflicting with the ROC Mods race at Lancaster or the 100Lap Mod race at Sundance both Saturday night. ::)
