Micro Sprints at Woodhull August 3rd
« on: July 30, 2013, 10:25:21 PM »
With the 270 Road Show Series at the halfway point after a stop at Hill Valley Speedway back in June, drivers took a traditional summer hiatus for time at their local tracks and/or vacations with their families. It’s hard to believe that was an entire month ago, and in less than a week, 25 registered teams will be getting back to work at the high banks of Woodhull Raceway on Saturday night, August 3rd.

Woodhull Raceway, known as the “Toughest Bullring in New York” was one of the most popular stops for the Road Show last year, and many teams are eagerly looking forward to a return engagement at the super high banked 1/3 mile clay surface. Track owner Ted White provided a smooth surface last year that was tacky, yet hard to get hold of, and the fans in the stands were quickly impressed with the lap speeds for the 270’s. White was also gracious enough to allow camping, and many teams took advantage of the hospitality.  All these factors led to a golden opportunity to showcase and promote micro sprint racing in front of a whole new market of spectators. Gates open at 4:30 in Woodhull, with hot laps set to begin at 6:00, and as always, we welcome any and all teams 270 micro sprint teams to join us for the evening in front of arguably the largest crowd we will see all season.

Once things are settled at Woodhull, the Road Show continues on for event #5 on Saturday, August 17th at America’s Motorsports Park in Clearfield, PA. America’s is a fresh facility for the 2013 season, and many people may remember it as Gambler’s. Promoter Jeff Taylor has been working to completely revamp and upgrade this unique facility, and he is looking forward to bringing the Road Show to town for what hopefully will become a traditional western swing.

The Road Show champion will be decided when we return to Clinton County on Friday night, August 23rd for the 2013 series finale. Track promoter Vern Wasson has been a great supporter for the 270 class, and he was one of the first to lend his support for the concept of a travelling micro series last season when this concept came to life. Car counts are always outstanding and the competition is always tough at the Mackeyville, PA arena.

The Road Show season to this point has been an interesting one, as we recognize our first 3 time A-Main winner. Mason Peters, the young gun from Shickshinny, PA has been flawless in his 2013 Halliday Trucking Viper chassis, as he notched wins at Path Valley, Clinton County, and Hill Valley. Though he hasn’t yet scored an A-Main victory, Brian Marriott from Paxtonia, PA is only 16 points behind in second place with his #18 Interstate Batteries King chassis mount. The top 10 of the class of 2013 are all in position to advance themselves in the point standings during the second semester, with drivers tied for 7th and 9th. 1. #10 Mason Peters-225, Shickshinny, PA 2. #18 Brian Marriott-209, Paxtonia, PA 3. #15 Sean McAndrew-185, Apollo, PA 4. #17B Troy Whitsell-177, Selinsgrove, PA 5. #11x Robert Garvey-167, 6. #67 Ken Duke-137, Selinsgrove, PA 7. (tie) #5 Denny Rinehimer-133, Bloomsburg, PA/ #8 Pete Skias-133, Reading, PA 8. #4u David Utt-109, 9. (tie) #17T Darrell Troxell-105, #29 Bob Maynard-105, Towanda, PA 10. #14 Gary Keister-101.

In 2012, the Road Show boasted an average car count of 32.6 over 6 events, with 21 full members. So far this season, we have seen an average of 38 cars per event, with an impressive 47 cars signed in at the series opener at Path Valley.
