Racing Discussion / Re: Chemung speedrome

A couple things on the legend race. It was me Gary Ham that came to the competitors, that was after getting the running order of the consi from track management. It was easier for me to seek out those on the list and let them know. And I believe there was one that I could not find myself. Could it have been done earlier... Probably so and that I think would be an easy fix. Could they have split the field, probably so, however I can remember back in the "Shangri-la days that there was consi's in almost every field. We didn't complain and say we aren't coming back. It made us more determined to make the field the next week. I hate seeing any car go home, but 29/30 cars can be more disastrous than what today actually was! Sure it wasn't pretty, with most being their first time out for the year. There's ways to work with the issues you have. To start we could have our own meeting in the barn in our pit area and discuss possibly other ideas. I know you can't make everyone happy, however to just give up and not come back is not the answer either. I hope to see you back!!

Racing Discussion / Saturday Night racing at Chemung?
« on: January 02, 2015, 09:10:59 PM »
Truly disappointed to see that Chemung went to Saturday nights this coming season!! That screws a whole lot of Legend series drivers! God forbid we try to run for Inex points. You are not going to get enough cars at Spencer to gather the points needed to compete!! I guess thinking about the racer was not brought into discussions.

Racing Discussion / Chemung asphalt

I happened to stop by the speedrome this morning to find that the area in question on the racing surface had a totally new look. The area was dug out from the entrance of turn three to the exit of turn four. When I say dug out it was dug completely to the gravel, repacked, and then repaved. They said that it took 30 plus tons of asphalt to fix the area. John White had a shovel in hand helping out as well. Nice to see that a owner/promoter is willing to go the extra mile to fix it right!

I am for pitting on the infield!!! Its nice that people in the stands can see what goes on involvement wise in keeping a race car going. I think the dust would be quite an issue coming onto the track from turn four unless there was a substantial investment in black top. I know of one mod that went through the outside pit area and ended up catching the flywheel on some shale type of rock that was sticking up. Granted this could be taking care of but it needs to be done before you make these cars go out there for tech purpose!
If the rules were enforced and fines were handed out for some of the infractions that did take place then I think less problems would take place. It is no different than on the street. You get a couple traffic infractions, you'll then think before you do it again.
On the issue of the Tech barn........Awesome!!! Thank you John for making improvements to Chemung. And by all means....Park what you want in there. lol

I am looking for the man from the Binghamton area that used to letter race cars. I remember his first name was "Sonny". I believe he works for Harley Davidson industry now. Still would like to get in contact with him. Any help with a phone number I would appreciate.
