Both will have an effect on blow buy. First ? should have been how old is the engine. if it is fresh and you have both of the above i would do a leak down test. Also even fresh engines have had this problem until the ring rings are seated in.

I USE TO USE A HOSE ON THE CRANK CASE BREATHER AN BRING IT UP LEVEL WITH THE BREATHER ON THE VALVE COVER AN USE A FILTER ON THE END OF THE HOSE FROM THE CRANK CASE .THE CRANK CASE BREATHER WE WOULD CUT THAT NIPPLE THAT GOES IN THE BLOCK OFF AN ATTACH THE HOSE TO IT THEN STICK IT IN THE BLOCK THERE FOR HAVE JUST THE HOSE OF THE BLOCK TO THE FILTER UP ABOVE LEVEL WITH THE VAVLE COVER . HOPE THIS HELPS .
