FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY TO PAY TRIBUTE TO DOUG WORTHING THIS SATURDAY AT SUNOCO MODIFIED SEASON...

FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY TO PAY TRIBUTE TO DOUG WORTHING THIS SATURDAY AT SUNOCO MODIFIED SEASON OPENER ON STOCKHOLM?S BARBER SHOP NIGHT
Five Mile Point Speedway legend Doug Worthing will be honored this Saturday on Stockholm?s Barber Shop Night. The season opening 46 lap race for the Sunoco Modifieds will pay $2,063 to win. The Insinger Performance Crate Sportsman, Expert and Novice Four Cylinders, Factory Stocks, Xcel 600 Modifieds and the Junior Division will join the blockbuster show beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Doug Worthing will be honored on Saturday for his stellar career at the quarter mile oval. Worthing, aka the ?Junkyard Jet?, is one of the original 50 Greatest Drivers in the history of the speedway. He is fourth on the all-time Sunoco Modified feature win list at Five Mile Point Speedway with 46 feature wins behind Chuck Akulis, Mike Colsten and Dave Kneisel.
The 46 lap feature is reflective of Doug?s 46 career feature wins and the $2,063 pays tribute to his car number 63 for the bulk of his career. The race will also pay lap money and special award bonuses. All 46 laps, each worth a minimum of $25 were sold in just over 24 hours. Other special awards include a $100 Hard Charger Award, courtesy of ?The Judge? Gary and Kathy Dence, First Car Out of the Race $25 bonus courtesy of D&J Fotos, a Last Car Across the Line Award, courtesy of Barb Fox, and a $100 Hard Luck Award, courtesy of Speed Sport Showcase. Each Sunoco Modified heat winner will pocket $50 in memory of Shirley Zacharias.
The race is expected to draw a strong field of Sunoco Modifieds, including many invaders. Of course the race will have the most meaning to Byron Worthing, Doug?s son. He proudly carries his father?s number 63 on his Sunoco Modified and he would like nothing more than to win a race that pays tribute to his Dad. A special ceremony will take place prior to the start of the Sunoco Modified feature. The table is set for an outstanding night of racing on Saturday night.
The Insinger Performance Crate Sportsman, Four Cyilnders, Factory Stocks and Xcel 600 Modifieds all have a week of racing under their belts as they kicked off their season two weeks ago with a great night of racing. They will all be back on Saturday to battle it out on the historic quarter mile oval along with the Junior Division.
The exciting night of racing is sponsored by Stockholm?s Barber Shop.  They have been a supporter of local auto racing for years and are located just a short drive from the speedway at 87 Broad Ave in Binghamton. Whether you are looking for a haircut or a beard trim, Stockholm?s is the place for you. The professional staff at Stockholm?s offers a family friendly environment with prices that won?t break the bank. Walk-ins are always welcome at Stockholm?s. Next time you are in need of a haircut, make the short drive down to Binghamton and visit our friends at Stockholm?s Barbershop and enter for your chance to win VIP tickets to April 20th?s Sunoco Modified season opener.
